Publisher's Summary

An all wolf-shifter police force has been the only thing between humans and an unknown evil for centuries, but the pack is in danger of dying if they don't find their promised mates soon.

Trevor Burbank is a shifter cop in a world of humans who don't know the evil that wants them dead. If he does his job well, the humans will never need to know, but he feels like he's working against the clock because his pack is about to die. The females have all been killed, and the half-breeds they make when they mate with humans aren't usually skilled or strong enough to fight.

Gabriela Carmi has lost almost everything that means anything to her way too fast and now she feels like she's losing her mind too. On a quest to find something that won't reveal itself to her, she feels as if she's pining for someone who may not exist. So when an evil presence begins to follow her, she isn't sure if her mind is slowly falling apart or if the impossible is actually coming true. And when an instant attraction sparks between her and the handsome police officer sent to help her, it makes matters worse and better at the same time.

It's a race against time to find the angel/human hybrid "One True Mates" that the pack's spiritual leaders say truly exist. Saving the all the shifter clans is on everyone's mind, except for the chosen, the One True Mates, most of whom don't even know who or what they really are or why they seem to be slowly losing their minds.

Steamy. Light swearing. High heat. You've never experienced a shifter romance like this before.

    "Good Story"

I enjoyed this storyline. It is a different take on the wolf shifter. I recommend this to anyone who likes shifter stories. I also enjoy Michael Pauley as a narrator. I have listened to a few other books he has narrated and I do enjoy his voice and his narration!

    "Who is the narrator?"

I couldnt get past the first few pages because the narrator was atrocious. I'll try reading the book on my own after I get that voice out of my head.

"Good story but really poor Narrator"

I must say that the story line is unique and we'll written. But, the person that was chosen to provide the spoken narration did a very poor job (Michael Pauley). I hope that Audible gets someone else to narrate the rest of the series.

    "Great read and OK listen.."

I was wondering if this book was going to be any good since it started kinda slow and the hero and heroine didn’t meet until page 25. But it got better and better and their meeting was worth the wait. (((He noticed her pulse beating in her neck and he watched it, fascinated by the bluish tinge he saw at the delicate cut of her collarbone. She was cold. He should offer her a coat. His truck to warm up in. Or to drive. Maybe to have as her own. Or he could get her a new furnace for her house. Or give her his house to live in as long as she wanted. Or how about a ring, a big one, just in case she liked that kind of thing. A woman like her really shouldn’t go without..))) When the narrator read this I had to stop and laugh my A$$ off. The more he read it the faster he read and the more excited he sounded. It was just fantastic.

Anyway, I really like Troy and Trent, Trevor’s brothers that couldn’t shift out of wolf form, they were just awesome, but didn’t like Mac and wasn’t sure I would, he was such an A-hole. AND the author made Ella into an absolute whinny, frightened, wimp. I really had a hard time liking her, so I was hoping she’d get better as time went on. She did. And she had some kind of power, too.

I also liked Wade and Graeme. This was a completely different kind of shifter story.

There was swearing in this book and the F-bomb was used 34 times. AND there were 3 sex scenes. Romantic sex, not erotic.

As to the narrator: Wow, I don’t even know where to start. I loved him one minute then I would hate him. He had great voices for the men and the women sounded like women and when something exciting happened he would be excited, he would yell, whisper, laugh, whatever. But, boy, when there were long periods where Wade would tell a long winded story Michael Pauley would read like a complete robot. It was awful. He could have been a 5 star narrator but he just didn’t quite make it.

    "Good book, bad narrator!!"

Very robotic narration. At times I had to turn off the audiobook as it sounded like a monotoned robot reading a book. Despite this, I did finish the book and enjoyed the storyline. Interested to see where the author takes it.

"A new version of shifter world."
Where does One True Mate 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    High on my list.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ella. She was so much and had been demeaned. She had to learn and accept so much. Strong, yet vulnerable.

Have you listened to any of Michael Pauley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

NO. He made the story excellent. I loved it and while it is a first, and he had both sexes to portray, he did a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Ella crossed over to save her sister and he decided to go after her regardless of his life. The coming together of all the team was it for more.

    Any additional comments?

This a wonderful world of shifters, oops, I mean shiftin. An imagination of a world without hope that the author offers hope. I will have to read the rest of the series. A five star recommend from me.

    "A Wolf for Ella!"

Enjoyable, lightweight paranormal fantasy, Ella has always felt like she didn't fit in, she has moments when she feels like she's having visions, and the odd feeling that she's being pursued by an unknown entity. When it all comes to an explosive conclusion at an antique shop, she comes into wolf shifting cop Trevor Burbank's field of vision.

Trevor is the leader of his pack and destined to find his one true mate, but he's all but given up hope until... you guessed it! He meets Ella. Their chemistry is immediate and hot, but neither knows that their fate and the future of the clan are tied together.

This audiobook is read by Michael Pauley, he sounded a little robotic when narrating, but when he was actually voicing the characters he did a really good job... Interesting! I would listen to him narrate again because he did keep my attention, and that's what matters most to me.

    "Great Beginnings"

This is my first novel by Lisa Ladew.
It started a bit slow and a bit wordy for my liking but it picked up. When the pieces started fitting together, it was quite enjoyable. Not crazy about Mr. Pauley's performance but it wasn't so distracting as to ruin the story. I'm looking forward to the next in series. I will probably purchase the paperbacks of Ms. Ladew's other series, Audible is quite an expensive addiction.
