Publisher's Summary

Grace has taken care of her widowed father her entire adult life and the ornery old goat has finally died. She has no job, no skills and very little money, and has heard her father's prediction that no decent man would ever want her so often she accepts it as fact.

But she does have a big old house on Lawyers Row in Peacock, Tennessee. She opens a rooming house and quickly gathers a motley crew of tenants: Promise, Grace's best friend since kindergarten, who's fighting cancer; Maxie, an aging soap opera actress who hasn't lost her flair for the dramatic; Jonah, a sweet, gullible old man with a crush on Maxie.

And Dillon, Grace's brother's best friend, who stood her up on the night of her senior prom and has regretted it ever since. Dillon rents Grace's guest house for the summer and hopes to make up for lost time and past hurts - but first, he'll have to convince Grace that she's worth loving....

    "I Praise this Author"

This author took on a very complicated project that included several important issues that in themselves would be difficult to write about and do it well. Ms. Flaherty has done this brilliantly.

She has created strong characters who experience challenges and face them with humor as well as bravery.

A book that could have been depressing is in fact extremely entertaining.

    I highly recommend this one.

    "800 Miles of Entertainment"

I listened to this book on a 950 mile trip and it kept me entertained for 800 miles, until the book finished. I can't say that this was a light-hearted, Happily-Ever-After book because it was more of a real-life story. It addressed some tough subjects, but I thought it was enjoyable, even with my tears.
One More Summer never lost my attention and I never became bored with the characters. Grace was definitely damaged but Ms Flaherty wrote her as a fragile but tough and caring woman. The secondary characters were likable people with very human flaws.
The narrator did a good job and that is always a plus.
I do recommend this book but be sure to have your hankie out and be ready to cry.

"So much more than a romance novel"

I bought One More Summer thinking it would just be yet another light-hearted romance novel. But, it is so much more than that. This is a book about rekindling old romances, overcoming tragedy, moving beyond the past, forgiving past wrongs, and learning to love and be loved. Grace is easy to empathize with. In fact, Liz Flaherty does an excellent job depicting why each character has his/her flaws. And while it was pretty easy to figure out what the deceased father did to Grace, there were several twists and turns in the storyline that totally took me by surprise. All in all, what I loved about this novel was that it ultimately delivered the feel good moments that make you smile when you finish a novel. But Flaherty didn't compromise depth in order to reach that end. If you're like me, this book will bring more than a few tears to your eyes.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job.

    "Thank you, Rebecca Gibel!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Since I wrote this story, it's natural that I love it, but I was newly thrilled to hear it in someone else's voice. What a voice it was. She nailed the characters as well as if she'd written them.

What about Rebecca Gibel’s performance did you like?

She became the people and I was lost. I found myself surprised at what happened next, because the story became hers when she told it.

"Loved! Emotions from tears to laughing out loud!"
Where does One More Summer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was one of my favorites! It dealt with emotions of family and friends while growing up. It held my total interest. Storyline was handled well!!

What other book might you compare One More Summer to and why?

I think it's a book of it's own. If you like small towns and the families that grew up in small times this is the book.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Gibel – was your favorite?

Promise, Grace, Dillon, Maxie were my favorites.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Promise was telling Grace her orders for her funeral. Promise was an upbeat, sweet, caring friend to all.

    Any additional comments?

This book flowed for me. I loved the characters who lived at Grace's house and their interaction with one another. Definitely kept my full attention and I laughed as hard as I cried. This was my first with Liz Flaherty.

    "Can you say TEARJERKER?"

Can you say tear-jerker?!! This book just pulled on my heartstrings over and over again. It is very well-written and full of layers, but boohoo how happy-sad and sad-sad and devastating at times. I loved all the love and friendship everyone experienced. The friendship between Grace and Promise was inspiring and beautiful, because let's face it, some of our friends ARE our soulmates!

"Not what I was expecting, but still very good"

This novel was in the romance category and is produced by Harlequin. The cover art even makes it looks like your typical romance novel. (Not ragging on romances -- I love them!) Anyway, part of why I enjoy the romance genre is for the escapism, the scenes of falling in love, and the guaranteed happily-ever-after! My life can be kinda stressful and that HEA is not always in sight, if you know what I am saying...
Well, this story was not, in my opinion, in that genre. It is the story of Grace Elliot, the youngest child in a very disfunctional family. Her older siblings were the "perfect" ones and she was the messed up one. She was even stood up for the prom by her brother's best friend, Dillon. The story begins with Dillon walking back into her life, not long after her abusive father has died. The story plays out over the next year with health problems, secrets being revealed, breakups, marriages, and lots of angst. Still, I LOVED IT! Rebecca Gibel's narration added so much to the story and I obsessively listened to it over 4 days. I cried in several parts and felt frankly spent when it was over. I really came to care for Grace and the family that she made for herself.
So, if you are looking for something light, this might not be for you, but if you are looking for a story that will really draw you in, give it a chance.

    "Outstanding!"
What made the experience of listening to One More Summer the most enjoyable?

This book was one of the best, if not the best, book that I have had the pleasure to listen to in a long time. Liz Flaherty brings each of her characters to life. The range of emotions that this book brings to you makes you feel like you are part of the story! I found myself relating to the characters. I highly recommend this book, but get ready to laugh and cry!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I had two favorites--Grace and Dillion. Both characters have a lot of baggage but find a way to lean on each other and find comfort. They are very strong characters.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Gibel – was your favorite?

    Promise

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh and cry! I felt like I was part of the story.....

    Any additional comments?

This is a "don't miss" book! I will definitely be listening and reading more from this author.

    "Romance and More"
Would you listen to One More Summer again? Why?

Yes, it was a great story with many intertwining storeylines. It was more than just a romance book. It moved me to tears and it had happy moments.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One More Summer?

The love of a friend for a friend and a man for a woman and the caring of siblings are all here. It's worth it.The cancer part of the story hit me particularly. I have breast cancer that I am dealing with totally differently than her friend. There are other options other than surgery, chemo and dying. And don't eat sugar if you have cancer.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Quite a few, the book was well written. I hope to read more from this author.
