Publisher's summary

No one does wickedly funny and irresistibly steamy like New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands - especially in this red-hot romance between a reluctant vampire and the beauty who needs his help.

Luck be a vampire tonight...

When Nicole Phillips agreed to hire a housekeeper, she pictured someone a little frumpy and almost certainly female. Instead, she gets gorgeous, unmistakably male Jake Colson. The man is proving indispensable in the kitchen - and everywhere else. Except Jake might not be a mortal man at all.

Who wouldn't want to be a tall, dark, powerful vampire? Jake, for one. He's barely had time to adjust to his new state before he's roped into a family favor. Still, secretly playing bodyguard to sweet, sexy Nicole is turning out to be the wildest ride of his life. First, he'll put a stop to whoever's targeting her. Then he'll prove that this kind of love, and luck, happens only once in an eternity.

Really good addition to the series :D

4-4.5 stars

This was a very good story. I've read the rest of the series and this was a great addition. Jake is actually Stephano Jacob Colson Notte (but goes by name Jake Colson) who was changed by Vincent Argeneau to save his life in A Bite to Remember. He didn't take his change in circumstances well and I was happy to see his story and him coming to terms with everything.

Nicole is a portraitist and a good woman. She's just getting out of a bad marriage to a man who was just trying to fleece her for her money. Nicole is related to Marguerite Argeneau's maid and has know Marguerite for many years. When she has troubles during her divorce, Marguerite thinks her soon to be Ex is trying to kill her off before the divorce to get her money but Nicole doesn't believe it.

It's been 7 years since Jake was turned in to a Vampire to save him from sure death. He never wanted to be a Vampire (most of his family are and he had decided not to be changed) so when he finds himself a changed anyways he freaks and leaves everything behind. He ends up in a job doing personal security and is stewing in his life but not really making any progress when he is contacted by Marguerite asking for a favor. She explains about the issues Nicole is having and asks Jake to protect her by acting as her maid/cook for 2 weeks until the divorce is final and he agrees.

Marguerite introduces Nicole and Jake and he starts the job for a 2-week trial and Marguerite leaves soon after. Jake and Nicole start to get to know each other and soon after, Jake realizes he can't read Nicole and she's probably his lifemate. He realizes that he hasn't really accepted or moved on with his life as it is now and now his lifemate is here he has to get things together soon. A couple of issues show up that seem to confirm that someone is attempting to kill Nicole. When Jake is made sick by one of these attempts, Nicole has to call Marguerite and his family, who come to help. The attempt ends up bringing Jake's differences to light and he's forced to tell her what he is and hope she'll accept it all without freaking. This actually helps Jake, because in explaining it to Nicole, he realizes just how faulty his own prejudices are and is able to put them to rest.

Thankfully, because of her long friendship with Marguerite and her growing feelings for Jake, Nicole is accepting of Jake and his family's Vampire status. She also learns about lifemates and is sure she's not ready for a new relationship (especially with as fast as it all seems to be going) but she does decide to give Jake a chance. There is more danger as the attempts escalate but they find the person behind the attempts isn't her soon to be Ex after all. Then everyone is left scrambling, trying to find the true villain. When the villain shows up in the end, I was surprised to find out who it was. With a little bit of creativity, the villain is dispatched and the danger is ended and Jake and Nicole head in to a satisfying HEA that left me smiling.

I really liked this story. Jake and Nicole are great and I was happy to see them get together. The story was interesting and kept me engaged throughout. The secondary characters are (as always) great. This was a great addition to the series. I'd recommend this. Thumbs up! :D

ANOTHER GREAT ADDITION TO THE ARGENEAU FAMILY TREE

Book 19!!! ahhh where has all the time gone? - I'll tell you - listening to enjoyable books such as this one. Marguerite's up to her usual tricks by pairing off life mates and this time it's sexy Jake's turn and she's got a little favor to ask him..... become a Bodyguard for her friend Nicole because someone's trying to kill her. However, she's unaware they're Vampires and she mustn't know he's her Bodyguard so he has to meet her under the disguise of cook/housekeeper/yard guy but this proves all too much for Jake, especially as he can't really cook but more importantly he can't read her.

Lynsay Sands will keep you guessing throughout this mystery with it's share of suspense, passion, sex, danger, tension, humor and much loved characters from previous books, until the villain is revealed, his motives given and only then can the two lovers have their HEA ending.

For any Argeneau fan this is an enjoyable must have addition to the series but for those of you who haven't yet sampled any of the Argeneau Vampire clan's stories, this could be a stand alone listen. But, as a lot of the family and partners turn up at some point in this book willing to help Nicole and Jake, you will miss their own stories so I humbly suggest you start at book 1 and work your way up to this because they're all great fun listens.

Worth a credit? Well this is my 19th purchase dipping into the Argeneau family's lives and I don't regret any of them - so that's a YES.

Disappointed

I was disappointed with this book. I actually got distracted many times and left it to do other things. Normally with Lynsay Sands books I am captivated by the story, suspense and action. Not this time. But I am still a fan and will patiently wait for the next Argeneau Book to come out.

Better on second listen...

Setting: Ontario, Canada contemporary
Genre: Paranormal romance
When Stefano Jacob Colson Notte turned 18, his mother and step-father told him they and his younger half-brother were Immortals, and offered to turn him. After growing up on horror movies, he equated vampires (the common name for Immortals) with evil monsters and he declined. He became emotionally distant from his family, but he worked for Vincent Argeneau. In A Bite to Remember (Argeneau #5), Vincent turned Stefano without permission after finding him bleeding out from a chest wound inflicted by a psycho. For some reason Stefano was pissed off that he had been turned against his will so he left home. Seven years later, using the name Jake Colson, he is working in security in Ontario. Marguerite Argeneau finds him and asks him to provide security for the niece of her maid, but under the guise of being her cook/housekeeper. Nicole's family believes her soon-to-be ex is trying to kill her, but she doesn't believe it. The plot revolves around finding out who has targeted her with death, as Jake and Nicole fall in love. She is his life-mate, but her marriage was a disaster, so she is shy of any relationship.
I enjoyed the plot, though there could have been more mystery around the perpetrators of all the "accidents" that occur in the course of the story. I liked the characters too, with the good and bad of each showing. I did want to sit Jake down and explain how disregarding a woman's opinion does not lead to love. And Nicole needed to be a bit more forceful, though that dress-up play did show her adventurous side.
As usual, Sands shows a good grasp of the language. It's nice that I have to actually think about it in order to evaluate it. I mean, it was so smooth! Not once was I dragged out of the story by egregious errors in usage.
In regards to the audio production, I do wish the studio would settle on one narrator. Of all the many readers this series has had, I enjoyed Angela Dawe most. However, Jack DuPont did a fairly good job with the narration of this book.

Dreadful

After hearing how fantastic this series was, and being a proud Canadian, I expected to fall in love with One Lucky Vampire and want to devour all the books in the series. Sadly, I was not even able to finish listening. If I had to hear the phrase cook-slash-housekeeper one more time I think I would have gone insane. I found myself counting how many times that phrase could be used in a ten minute period!

I did not start the series from the beginning, but had no problem following the gist of the arc. These vampires are genetically altered descendants from Atlantis, an intriguing premise in itself and one I am sure is dealt with in more detail over the previous 18 books. What I found most annoying was the weak plot line and repetition. Jake/Stephano has been hired by his aunt to surreptitiously guard Nicole, his aunt's housekeeper's niece, who is going through a nasty divorce, by posing as the ever annoying cook-slash-housekeeper. Several suspicious events have taken place, leading Nicole's loved ones to believe that her ex may be trying to kill her. Sounds plausible. Nicole is in denial and claims that her ex husband could not possibly be responsible for the gas leaks, sabbotage of brakes, poisoning of the hot tub, etc.... Come on, how many attempted need to be made on your life before you realize, yes, someone is out to get me. I know that all paranormal romance novels have the ever fated One, or Mate, and I buy into that aspect of the romance, but in this case it was just ridiculous - unconsciousness following lovemaking?? give me a break! I also found it silly the way meaningless events were overplayed without ever affecting plot or character. For example, Nicole suddenly felt she had to buy sonic mouse repellant from Canadian Tire when she had no reason to think she even had mice, but was for some reason afraid that she might and was worried Jake may find out. Needless to say, the sonic mouse repellant made Jake, and the other Immortals visiting the house, sick, which only lead to multiple instances of Jake questioning if Immortals could get sick, if they could get headaches, etc.... Considering it was the hot tub water that eventually made Jake sick, I didn't understand all the effort that went into the explanations about the sonar units. Likewise, so much effort was put into the dishing out of the chocolate cake, and wondering where it came from, and reading Melly's thoughts about gorging on cake, that I presumed the cake was going to be poisoned, or have other some other significance to drive the plot. Nope. Likewise with burning the grilled cheese sandwiches and scorching the tomato soup - at that point I just had to turn it off and walk away.

I enjoyed the references to Canadian Tire, Loblaws, Tim Hortons, but wanted to scream at the stereotypical Canadian voices the narrator chose to portray certain characters, usually workers hired to do repairs on the house.

I am curious about the previous 18 books in the series - obviously for a writer to sustain a series for so long, there must be something redeeming about it, but not this novel.

Another Hot Vampire

Any additional comments?

First let me say that I love Lynsay Sands and this whole series. I was, however, a bit disappointed by the slow movement of the first half of this book. I kept wanting the characters to get on with it already! The second half was much better and more up to Sand's standards and reputation. I'm still glad I read this book and cannot wait for more to come!
