Publisher's summary

You can run from the grave, but you can't hide. Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her. But when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever and that Bones won't let her get away again.

Jeaniene Frost, New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, lives with her husband and their very spoiled dog in Florida. Although not a vampire herself, she confesses to having pale skin, wearing a lot of black, and sleeping in late whenever possible. And while she can't see ghosts, she loves to walk through old cemeteries. She also loves poetry and animals, but fears children and hates to cook.

Critic reviews

“Proving that her first book was no fluke, Frost ratchets up the action and stirs up the suspense big time in her second Night Huntress novel. That said, it's the sizzling passion of her star-crossed lovers that really makes this book a genuine keeper!” ( Romantic Times)
“This series is only getting better…between the exciting action scenes and the rekindled romance between Cat and Bones, I did not put this one down until the last page.” ( Coffee Time Romance)

Narration is FANTASTIC!

Tavia Gilbert is an incredible narrator. She did such a great job "acting" out the story. Can't wait for the next one!

Great sexy listen

I really enjoyed this book and was surprised to enjoy the sexy scenes. I usually am not interested in romance types at all but this was HOT!
I listened intently to the book from start to finish and promptly purchased the 2nd in the series.

Highly addictive!!!!

It took a while to get into because the way the narrator does Bones's voice sounds like he should look more like Gollam than the hot vampire he's supposed to be. I started substituting narrator's voice of Bones (yes in my head) w Paul Bettany's (in my head I think Paul would make a fantastic Bones)!!! I'm completely hooked!!!! This series is dangerously addictive!!!

LOVE IT AS THE STORY CONTINUES!!...

This second book made up for the last one! Thank you Jeaniene! I hated how things ended in the last one, and was sooo happy when things turned around in this one!

After getting through this one, I downloaded the rest of them right away. This book also has one of the best love scenes out of all of them right now, and I am currently on book five.

Keep listening, as they only seem to get better! From the story to the narration...everything about this one is great!! A must have!!

Addictive series

Great mix of action, humour and romance, I bought the first book and now have purchased all of them. Tavia Gilbert gives a great performance its almost a dramatisation rather than a reading she does such a good job with the different characters

Can I give it a 10?

Where does One Foot in the Grave rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high up. I just loved this book. Very good listen indeed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Foot in the Grave?

When Cat confronts her father Max for the first time. I love how that played out.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Again, as in the first book, Bones was my favorite character. Tavia does a wonderful job with the cockney accent and her inflections are right on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES. Sadly, life gets in the way and it had to be broken up into multiple listens.

Any additional comments?

This is a great second installment in the Night Huntress series. It is even better (if that is at all possible) than the first book Tavia is THE BEST narrator of books. She goes the extra mile to give each and every character his/her own personality. She acts out the dialog just as if she WAS that person. If a character has just run a long way you can hear her breathing the way one would breathe is they had just run a long way. She is beyond fantastic.

Outstanding Sequel to Halfway to the Grave

What made the experience of listening to One Foot in the Grave the most enjoyable?

Tavia Gilbert maintains the characters so well. She is truly an outstanding narrator. Ironically, her interpretations of the characters and reading may actually be better than the first book if that's even possible.

What did you like best about this story?

Cat finally catches up with her father and ultimately begins to identify herself more with her vampire-side than her humanity.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No doubt Tavia's skill is like a fine wine... as one listens through this series, she improves with each edition of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The blindfolding scene was certainly notable for those of us who enjoy the romance between Cat & Bones. However, the notion that Bones has the skill to fly seems to be a bit over the top at first. But, the skill is integrated throughout the remaining books in the series so the reader gets used to it.

Any additional comments?

The story seems a little slow to start, but many of the new characters are introduced in the first 5-6 chapters and play pivotal parts later on. I was still left thinking that maybe a bit of the first 8-9 chapters could've been eliminated. That said, those of us who loved "Halfway" will equally enjoy "One Foot..."
