In One Dance with a Duke, the first novel in Tessa Dare's delightful new trilogy, secrets and scandals tempt the irresistible rogues of the Stud Club to gamble everything for love.
A handsome and reclusive horse breeder, Spencer Dumarque, the fourth Duke of Morland, is a member of the exclusive Stud Club, an organization so select it has only 10 members - yet membership is attainable to anyone with luck. And Spencer has plenty of it, along with an obsession with a prize horse, a dark secret, and, now, a reputation as the dashing "Duke of Midnight". Each evening he selects one lady for a breathtaking midnight waltz. But none of the women catch his interest, and nobody ever bests the duke - until Lady Amelia d'Orsay tries her luck.
In a moment of desperation, the unconventional beauty claims the duke's dance and unwittingly steals his heart. When Amelia demands that Spencer forgive her scapegrace brother's debts, she never imagines that her game of wits and words will lead to breathless passion and a steamy proposal. Still, Spencer is a man of mystery, perhaps connected to the shocking murder of the Stud Club's founder. Will Amelia lose her heart in this reckless wager - or win everlasting love?

I did enjoy the telling of "One Dance With a Duke." For those of us who enjoy the occasional romance, this was a lovely story and telling. I will admit that even I was slightly annoyed by the main characters constant "misunderstanding" of her love interested, but overall enjoyed the story and would recommend it to other readers who enjoy a light-hearted romance. I think I will continue with the series.
I love books! Audiobooks take stories to the next level. I'm obsessed with Audible and will try to rate all of my books. Happy Listening! ;)
This story has the qualities I like on a romance story: a sweet romance with hot scenes, a well developed, believable story with mystery and excitement. Unfortunately the narrator is so-so at best. She makes great voices for the females but doesn't even try to simulate male voices. All males sounded the same as females which is distracting and weird. Anyway the story is still so good that I recommend this book.
Audio books are just my cup of tea!
This a very good story with great narration. Historical romance with two wonderful characters and just a nice story. I think the combo of good narration and good story made this one 5 stars for me. Worth a Credit!!
I've read a couple of other Tessa Dare books and I find her written dialogues and plots to be funny and witty. In this book, Amelia, the nurturer of an impoverished noble family, takes the Duke of Midnight to task over him fleecing several hundred pounds and a token from the "stud club" from her younger brother in a card game. When Amelia is talking to the duke, he has a panic attack, which he is prone to when he gets in a crowd, he finds out another member of the stud club is murdered. After spending several hours with Amelia he asks her to marry him so he will have a duchess who can help care for his young teenage ward and continue his lineage. Oh and he pays her twenty thousand pounds that will help her poor but noble family survive and it will get the younger brother out of gambling debt.
Once they are married, Spencer is aching to have her put him first above her family and she becomes jealous of how he treats his horses, wanting all that love and attention directed toward her. The fifteen year old resentful niece doesn't help things either. As the relationship between the duke and Amelia develops, Spencer wants to know if she will ever love him more than her brother.
This was a funny, delightful book and I loved that the hero was a closet romantic, but denies it to the hilt when Amelia figures that out. On the negative side, I thought the ending was a little weak. Ms. Dare could have made it a bigger part of the book, but it seemed like she rushed through it. Maybe to make way for the next Stud Club novel? I gave it four stars because the ending seemed so weak, otherwise I highly recommend it.
I am a singer and Celtic harper specializing in the music of Scotland, where I go often to study and perform. I love romance books because I like a light hearted story with a happy ending!
I can't believe some of these other reviewers listened to the same story I did. This story was so slow and boring that I kept looking hopefully to see if it was almost over and actually skipped ahead a few times. None of the characters were particularly appealing, in fact the hero and heroine were both really annoying! The story line was dull. Part of it sounded like it had been written by a college freshman who just finished taking Psychology 101! I guess some of you might like that sort of thing, in which case, go for it. But I definitely feel like I wasted my time!
A book lover with a romantic soul, but willing to take a leap of faith. I LOVE to get sucked into a story and live there for a bit.
I really enjoyed this. At first I thought I might not, but it took a wonderfully sweet turn fairly early on and it had me wrapped from then on. I consider it a good book if I drive a little further or clean a little more because I am wrapped up in it. This one hit the mark! A sassy heroine and a flawed but essentially SWEET Hero!
Tessa Dare, yes. Leslie has no inflictions in her voice. I could not tell who was responding to whom. My mind wondered away from the story so many times. I had yo keep rewinding to last memory.
Emily, strong, witty, loyal, smart. Nothing got past her.

I love to listen to audiobooks. It is great when the narrators get into the story and really bring the characters to life.
I loved the story and the narration was good too. This story was unexpected and enjoyable. I could not stop listening! In fact, I listened straight thru and couldn't sleep until it was finished. look forward to more of the Stud Club!
One of the most boring books I've listened - skipped through most of to a really banal ending. Don't waste your time or credit.
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
Very enjoyable...much like Beautiful Bastard, the couple just clicks. Amelia is no shy spinster and Spencer loves it! A happy, funny, sweet, compassionate story, narrated beautifully.
