Her needs are dark. His are dangerous.
Charlie MacNiall has been bringing his beautiful king shepherd to the vet clinic where Ranay Killian works for the better part of a year. She doesn't realize he's been slowly wooing her. She certainly has no idea that he picked her deliberately - that she is to become his. A broken heart and a desperate desire to be dominated make her the perfect victim.
His perfect victim.
Charlie fixes Ranay, testing her emotional limits while pushing her sexual boundaries past anything she'd imagined possible. Pain is their shared pleasure...until Charlie disappears and Ranay is all but destroyed.
The FBI says the man she loves is a serial killer. Ranay can't deny there's a darkness in Charlie, a monstrous hunger that drives him to the brink. She even believes he could kill. But Charlie's hunger is what bonds them - it's the foundation of their love. Would he actually kill her?

"I love when an author brings me to a place I haven't been before. One Cut Deeper is daring, edgy, and sexy. If you like your heroes with a dark side, you won't be disappointed!" (Roni Loren, New York Times best-selling author of the Loving on the Edge series)
Just trying to find my next great read
No, I would not listen to it again.
No, I would not recommend. I think my friends would find the heroine weak - lacking personlity.
Summer Morton did an amazing job narrating. I will definitely look for more books narrated by her.
It has nothing to do with the heroine being a sub or that she liked pain that I though she was weak. Nor did I think she was weak because she wanted a full -time DOM. It was that she could not think for herself when Charlie was not around. Also, when the FBI questioned her at the end, with just a smile and some kindness, she would spill the beans. I am not sure what Charlie liked about her except that she was a sub that loved pain and did not mind knife play with blood. They barely talked except when the heroine explained how her last Dom, Josh, left her because he could not handle her dependency on him. I have read several books with D/s, but this has to be the weakest heroine I have ever encountered in a story. I understood her submissiveness when in play, but she had no personality. Again, I ask what did Charlie see in her??? I did like the suspense with the serial killer. I am not sure if I will listen to the next book in the series. I will have to wait and see if there are reviews that state that the heroine grew a personality.
I just have to roll my eyes and say 'really' when someone writes in a review that a fiction book was not realistic...come on now 'really'
As my headline states this book is the S & M of BDSM. There is consentual pain afflection; cutting of skin; and blood lust. There is also a very good preditor plot with mystery, suspense, and murder.
One Cut Deeper focuses more on the actual S & M acts than sex. So if you're looking for a sweet, sexy, BDSM and are faint of heart this book is Not for you. If you like to darker, thrilling, mysterious side then you'll enjoy this book.
I personally love romance books that are dark, thrilling, suspenseful with twists and turns that keep you guessing and approaches subjects like serial killers, human trafficking, bratva, mafia, cartel, etc. This book does not dissappoint and from what I've read the second book: Two Cuts Darker will follow suite.
One Cut Deeper can be a stand alone book, no cliffhanger, but the second book Two Cuts Darker does continue with characters from the first book.
Absolutely worth a Credit!!! I want the second book now....but will have to wait until the end of February.
First, this book is not for the faint of heart. There'll be hardcore BDSM play, to include biting, knife play and blood play. The storyline, though, wow! This was my first Joely Sue Burkhart book and I wasn't disappointment. This story is dark, very dark, but exciting, suspenseful, and touching. It's a story about two broken souls who find each other. Sort of. They're relationship is very hardcore - I cannot stress that enough, so if you're squeamish, skip this book. If you're a bit twisted, like me, you will adore this book. The plot has enough romance, mystery, and suspense, to keep you interested. I couldn't stop listening.
Charlie, despite his dark tendencies, he's a good guy - sorta!
I'm familiar with Summer Morton's work from other books. She gave a stellar performance, as usual.
I was surprised and delighted to see a book that dealt with the harder side of BDSM without being considered out and out porn. It wasn't your usual tie them up and tease type of play. It was the darker side of some hardcore slave issues. Yes, slave. While I'm not into it, it was a great break from the norm!
