Publisher's summary

The last man Judith Worth wants to see again is Christian Trent, the Marquess of Ashford - the man who spent summers at her family home, who kissed her one magical night...and then heartlessly ruined her father. But when a tricky business matter arises, he's the only one she can ask for help. With any luck, he'll engage a servant to take care of the matter, and she won't even have to talk with him.

But Ashford has never forgotten Judith. He knows she will never forgive him for what he's done, but when offered the chance to assist her, he arrives in person. His memory of Judith may have haunted him, but it pales in comparison to the reality of the vivacious, beautiful woman he rediscovers. Throughout his life, he has always done what is correct. But now, he finds himself doing something utterly wrong...falling in love with the one woman he can never have.

Witty dialog will make you laugh.

I liked the overall story because it had some very funny and witty dialog between the two main characters. They were hilarious together and kept me interested throughout the whole book. I also loved the fact that there was not the normal "fall into bed" so quickly that your head is spinning type of story. That didn't happen until the end of the story, and by that time it seemed like the natural thing to happen. The younger sister was also very comical with her "devil may care" attitude.

Ms. Milan gives us a story that is outside the norm, and it works very well. I will be moving on to the next part of this story if there is one. I am truly interested in seeing where this family lands in life, and for me that makes a good book!

As always Rosalyn Landor does her same outstanding steady job with reading and character voices! Love her work and even if it's a bad story she makes it bearable.

Not your typical H & H - And well written.

Two people grappling with moral dilemmas not of their making. The father's treason, the brother (& friend's) complicity. The hero's oddities, the heroine's obligations. The humor they shared was so true to the way lovers create their own language. And beautiful narrated by the brilliant Rosalyn Landor.

humorous without much heat

Quick read, somewhat interesting but I figured out the plot fairly early and then the storyline dragged

I love this neurotic marquess

He gets comfort from making lists and has a love for the heroin that lasts through years. The heroin is sweet and selfless and giving ... And she denies herself that love. But this is, after all, a love story so use your imagination 😊. I can not wait to get the next book since this book ends on a cliff hanger.

3 1/2 Stars - Nice enough but not impressive good...

3 1/2 Stars - Nice enough but not impressive good as a CM rightly should be. Luckily is this audio-narrator fabulous and simply perfect.

It is sad to write about a Milan historical but maybe is "Once Upon a Marquess" a bit too casual gray, pale and sad for me. Maybe was it filled with too much depressing facts, lacking in the truly (shimmering grand pink) romantic part and too much a story about day to day problems for a tired older poor sister. There are a lot of problems, hate, trouble, kittens, siblings, grieving, old depressing stuff and maybe also too many back flashes for my taste. I expected more. I know I rightly can.

Finally: I looooove to listen to Ms Rosalyn Landor, I sincerely admire Ms Courtney Milan's great writing AND I will continue this new CM series. A promising start. I'm sure there will be future great books.

Ridiculously unlikely

I really disliked this book. And I did finish it. What hugely rich man condemns his beloved to eating turnip sandwiches for years living in filth? He would have made sure she had a fake bequest, just like the heroine did for her sisters. Think before you write such drivel. You can do better.

Not much Plot

The story dragged. The conflict between the protagonists was not convincing. The resolution was of the major plot was obscure. The book was not easy to finish. Rosalyn Landor was the best part of the book.

A Little Too Much Talking..

Once Upon A Marquess by Courtney Milan (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

3 Stars - By the end of this book I started to enjoy it more. Early on however, I found it confusing and almost too full of conversation, which surprises me as the conversations are usually my favourite parts! These however, would go from past to present, to hypothetical all in the space of the same paragraph. Perhaps had I actually been reading it this wouldn’t have mattered, but while listening, I found it did. The Narrator - who does a wonderful job any time I have listened to her in the past - seemed to read rather quickly, not “fast” as if I couldn’t understand the words, more like there was just an over abundance of them. And always repeating.. “It hurt .. for this reason, It hurt, for that reason, it hurt for more reasons.. “You must hate me … for this reason… you must hate me because… remember to hate me because.. Etc” anyway I could go on and on but then I would be repeating…

The characters Judith and Christian were quirky, and unique. The storyline was pretty good, once you dug through all the excess stuff being discussed… however it does end with a teeny cliffhanger, which I dislike. I have read one other book from this author and I enjoyed it. This book had soo many rave reviews, so I picked it up. I admit, I expected a lot better. Regardless of this book, I am sure I will try another of hers.
