Publisher's summary

She's a mortal cursed with dark power....

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: a terrifying ability to channel electricity and to see a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude ... until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire.

He's the Prince of Night....

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all - but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him: a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, passion ignites, threatening to consume them. It will take everything they have to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

This is a HOT One!

Read from June 26 to 27, 2012

I feel like I waited for this book for years! I love Vlad and was thrilled he was getting his own story. Jeaniene Frost has done it again! I was worried that no woman would be good enough for Vlad but Leila is perfect for the old guy. She has just the right amount of angst so she won't be a pushover and a touch of innocence and vulnerability that will make her likeable.

This book has the same successful recipe that all of Ms. Frost's books have that makes it a lovely blend of romance and urban fantasy, seasoned with enough steamy scenes and gory battles to keep me mesmerized.

A lot of people are complaining about the end but I liked the conclusion. My only issue is that the book is way to short and that the wait will be excruciating.

Tavia Gilbert performs flawlessly and keeps the accents of so many characters consistent and believable. She has such emotion while she reads I bet the sound crew was blushing during some scenes.

EXCITING NEW SERIES

This first book in Jeaniene Frost's new series is excellent! Tavia Gilbert does her normal fabulous job with Vlad's accent. Lots of action and killing and fire from Vlad. Leila is a very interesting character and has some very cool powers of her own even though she is just human. Of course nobody can write a love scene like Jeaneine and woooo does she do Vlad proud with this one. LOL I hope we don't have to wait a full year for the next book because that's just too long to wait for such a great story. You have to listen to this if you are a Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress fan!! I'll be listening to it again very soon.

OH my, Vlad was worth the wait!

I have been waiting for this book to come out. I have loved all the Cat and Bones books as well as the other characters stories so I knew Vlad's story would be good. Frost did not disappoint. I think this series could become as good as Cat and Bones series. I definitely will look forward to seeing how Vlad's romance will progress. He needs a good woman and I think these two will create a good series.

Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators and I was so glad to see her continue with this new series. It is nice to keep the same narrator since you are used to the voices she has created for the characters.

HOT, EXCITING and Left you wanting more, more, more. The only bad part is the wait for the next book. Totally credit worthy. I do recommend you start at the beginning of the Cat and Bones Series so you can get to know all the characters, including Vlad.

Not Your Adverage Dracula Story!!

Any additional comments?

I love Vlad. I have been waiting for his story since we met him in the Night Huntress novels. He's a more sophisticated, polished version of Bones. Don't tell Bones I said this, but Vlad is more my type! :)

Frost keeps up her usual fast, fun ride with Once Burned. The sex is hot, the banter is witty, and the fights are nail biters. What more could you pack into an 8 hour show/book?

Tavia is completely awesome as the narrator (as usual) and brings so much "personality" to the narration. Loved it!

Team Vlad all the way!

I absolutely loved this book! Just when I think I'm completely finished with all vampire stories, I listen to a Jeaniene Frost book and I'm in love with this genre all over again. I wasn't really excited to hear Vlad's story but I'm so glad I did. Now I can't get enough! I'm so looking forward to the next book.

WOWEE - IT TICKS ALL THE BOXES

Love Jeaniene Frost's books - they're an automatic download for me. No doubt this is the start of another fantastic series. I loved Vlad and can't wait for the storyline to develop more. I couldn't stop listening to this it was just so yummy - it had everything you'd expect from JF's books.

What a great combination - brilliant writing and awesome narration - the perfect union.

Well worth the credit.

So bad it's good

Would you try another book from Jeaniene Frost and/or Tavia Gilbert?

I've read her night huntress series which I liked MUCH more

Would you ever listen to anything by Jeaniene Frost again?

Yes

Did Tavia Gilbert do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I have to applaud Tavia for attempting all the different accents... irish, british, romanian, american.... but they're pretty hilariously cheesy.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Laughter. Tavia's voice overs were hilarious.

Any additional comments?

I kept laughing in disbelief... especially that I was still listening hours in. I think this is the worst book I have ever read... although I have to say I was entertained.

A HOT FROST LISTEN!

So glad Frost broke out Vlad's story from the Night Huntress series! Although Vlad irritates me at times with his arrogance...his friendship and loyalty with Cat in the past made him another favorite. And Once Burned only makes him better!

Vlad meets his match in Leila who, although human, has powers of her own as well. Between the two of them...well...lets just say there are sparks right from the beginning, figuratively and literally. :) Similar to Cat and Bones, Vlad and Leila are just a stubborn as they attempt a relationship, all the while tracking down someone from Vlad's past that was presumed dead centuries ago. This book is filled with many tense moments that are both good ;) and bad..once again sucking you in!

As for Tavia...she never disappoints and I am so glad that they kept her as the narrator for all of the Frost books! Without a doubt she is only getting better! She does such a good job with every character...it is hard to believe it is one person! And she does so much more than just reading...the way she acts out what she is reading really makes it come alive!

Once Burned is another "Hot Frost" listen :) worth the credit!! Bring on the next one!!

way too much torture

Much more violence/torture than romance in this book. If that's what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed.

Biggest irritant: Vlad being angry because he couldn't "impale" (yes, literally) one of his closest friends for a whole week because Leila was hurt in an attack, and only because the friend failed to get her out unharmed. What the heck?! Duh! No one with anything above a 10 point IQ would stay loyal to someone who treats them so badly. There are better ways for an author to demonstrate strength in a protagonist.

And Leila is really whinny.
