Nice Cowboy - Second Chance Romance

Jillian is running for her life - right on to the ranch of Trey. I love a good suspense and am definitely a fan of cowboys.
This did not hold me as captive as some of this author's other stories.

Painful!

This wasn't a love story to me. It was a story of anger, pain, lust, more anger, definitely lust and more and more anger. I don't think I've ever met a main character who was so angry at his presumptive partner through an entire book, even though he wanted to make love to her because he just can't help it! But he gets mad at himself for needing her and he tells himself that's not going to happen ever again. Two years ago, Trey Langden and Jillian Brandt were in love and mapping a future together. She was a photographer who went after the next great story and Trey was satisfied to stay on his ranch forever. When Jillian was offered an assignment with one of her exes, Trey ordered her out! Now Jillian is in danger because she's mixed up in a mafia hit and coverup, and needs a place to hide. She first thinks of Trey and hopes that he'll still be there for her. But, after two years, he's still filled with anger at her betrayal and lets her know. But, yet, he tells himself he wants his woman, but he can't trust her not to destroy him again. Oh my gosh! I was so over Trey by the end of chapter two and I had 15 more chapters to go! The story was good, the premise even better, but Trey made it impossible for me to connect with this couple. There was too much whining on both sides, mostly with Trey, and even in the very last chapter he's still angry at Jillian! I mean, come on! She's walking toward him, professing her love, and he warns her that she'd better be serious this time. Yuck! Amazingly, they have a HEA but it's too rushed to enjoy.
Johnny Pepper's narration saves the story. His well-modulated voice told the story at a good pace, with proper inflection and tone.

This is a great story, I loved the characters and the narrator did a wonderful job with the different characters. Jillian is a photojournalist and is running for her life. The only person she can trust is Trey, her former lover. When Jillian asks Trey for help, he can't turn her away even though she broke his heart. He just needs to protect his heart so it doesn't happen again. If you are looking for a great love story with some mystery then you need to listen to this book. Once I started listening to it I didn't want to stop until the end. I highly recommend this book!

Good story, great performance

Jillian was a bit naive in some parts, wanting to be loved, but had left her man years ago. when she is being hunted she trusts him enough to go back to him knowing he will keep her safe. but neither forgets the past. and how she left him for a job.
