Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Mary Jo Putney has claimed two RITAs, two Romantic Times Career Achievement Awards and four Golden Leaf Awards. Her mastery of the historical romance is evident in every word of Nowhere Near Respectable. Damian Mackenzie is an incorrigible gambler just honorable enough to save Lady Kiri Lawford from dangerous smugglers. That does not, however, mean he has any desire to return her romantic interest - until he learns Kiri’s not exactly the prim and proper lady society expects her to be.

Disappointing

What would have made Nowhere Near Respectable better?

A different narrator

What could Mary Jo Putney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I love Mary Jo Putney's books. However I will never listen to any of her books again if she uses Tim Gerard Reynols to perform them. Come on Ms. Putney you've been in the business long enough to know what your fans want.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tim Gerard Reynols’s performances?

Horrible. I will never listen to him narrate another book. He has a beautiful, deep voice yet he doesn't use that talent to make the main male character sexy or appealing. In fact, he gives the men a higher vocal range than the women. Plus, Ms. Putney wrote this book with a witty banter between the two main character but Mr. Reynols ruined it. He narrates to slow and doesn't bring fun banter into his tones or any emotion. The men sound like feminine characters and the women sound like they're all men. On top of that Mr. Reynols gets his accents so mixed up, one has no clue these characters are from England. Mr. Reynols does a good Scottish accent for the men but once again any women sound like bull frogs.

Any additional comments?

I hope this is forwarded to Ms. Putney & Mr. Reynols. This could have been a fun, enticing story, but the narration truly ruined it. And who directed this. Seriously!! Mr. Reynols has potential, but he has work to do and the director of the narration should be fired.

My kind of Hero

As usual Ms. Putney has produced an excellent historical novel with good strong characters and an interesting believable story. Even these are romance novels, the romance doesn't overwhelm the story.

MacKensey is a realistic hero who never steps out of reality but functions with all the faults of a real guy.

Mr. Reynols is not Simon Prebble, but his narration is decent.

regency adventure

What did you like best about this story?

The plot is good. Not quite in the league of Georgette Heyer, but good a good adventure. I I enjoy the characters being carried through the books and the development of the characters. Could do with less explicit sex. It quite spoils the flow of the story and feels contrived I would rather leave something to the imagination.

I do sense a desire to entwine modern feminism and human rights into the stories which pushes the credibility ( schools for wayward aristocrats, and indian dukes). Overall ,the story is good but does not need this level of sex to sell - Despite the latter, this is light escapism which I enjoyed and think is worthy of more than the sex image.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynols’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Good

Any additional comments?

Please dont put the explicit sex into the film.

Explosive!!

WOW!! What a complex and dramatic episode, with romance thrown in.
We have escaping girls, kidnapping, chivalrous men, royal assassin plots and bombs. Plus love scenes, tender love scenes, seduction love scenes.
What more could you want??

WHERE'S THE ROMANCE

What three words best describe Tim Gerard Reynols’s performance?

Terrible voice changes

Any additional comments?

I don't know where the romance was...I must have slept through most of it. One review complained about the sex scenes....well...must have slept through those too because I only heard one... I found this book to be very boring...not sure if it was the terrible narrator, who couldn't do voice changes at all, or the story itself. Sorry...I did not enjoy this book.

Disappointing

This book was too long & too trite. The main characters were victims of the plot, & became unbelievable very early in the story. I became bored but kept hoping it a would improve. It did not!

Entirely enjoyable

I rarely write a review but this story was full of unexpected adventures and a lovely romance. Good listening.

TERRIBLE NARRATION

TERRIBLE NARRATION. TERRIBLE NARRATION. Hard to say much more than that. Probably a good story but hard to judge with such a poor narrator. Read this on in print. Skip the Audible version.

Again another good romp

It was a fast paced love story that didn't loss anything being 3rd of a series. I listened to it through audible escapes.

Just Okay....but barely.

This is the story of Mac & Kiri. While I was glad to hear their story, I found the male voices insipid. I also found the strength of Kiri's character to be somewhat overwhelming. Usually MJP's story lines and characters are well-developed and compelling....not in this book.
