Publisher's summary

Let #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts fly you into Lunacy, Alaska, and into a colorful, compelling novel about two lonely souls who are searching for love and redemption...

As a Baltimore cop, Nate Burke watched his partner die on the street - and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepted the job as Chief of Police in a tiny, remote Alaskan town with the hopes of starting over. Despite the name, Lunacy provides a balm for Nate’s shattered soul - and an unexpected affair with pilot Meg Galloway warms his nights....

But other things in Lunacy are heating up. Nate suspects the killer in an unsolved murder still walks the snowy streets. His investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the first place. And his discovery will threaten the new life - and the new love - that he has finally found for himself.

Critic reviews

"[A] richly textured novel that captures the intimacy of smalltown police work, the prickliness of the pioneer spirit and the paradox of a setting at once intimate and expansive." (Publishers Weekly)

"Roberts's latest hit novel could not be performed better." (AudioFile)

One of my favorites!!!

I really enjoyed this book! The story was interesting and informative about Alaskan life. The narrator was excellent and his voices were distinguishable. I loved Nora’s Chasing Fire and this book falls into the same category!

Missing parts, poor editing

I have read this book before and it one of my favorite for the slow build. However small chunks are missing. I can understand they need to keep the length down, but cutting parts that are later referred to is just poor editing. The biggest one missing is when Meg sees the murder board. Right after the cut in the very next scene is Meg thinking about her reaction to see the board.

Enjoyable

This was my first Nora Roberts book and I enjoyed listening to the end. I found the end of the book a bit predicable but the narrator made up for that. Overall I would recommend this book.

a great book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, this is a great book with an intriguing storyline and the right amount of romance

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I think this is already a movie and not sure if I want to see the movie because I'm afraid it would ruin my image of the characters and the feeling of the book. Most movies are never as good as the book.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book, the audio version. I didn't realize that this was the book made to TV movie with Leann Rhymes when she left her hubby for the guy who co-starred with her in the movie. Anyway, back to the book. The characters were likeable and real enough to make a great story. There was a good balance of mystery with romance and even a little humor. It has been a long time since I had read a Nora Roberts book so based on this one I will have to check out some of her other books. I might even have to check out the movie version of this book and see how it compares to the imagines in my mind. I know, imagination is always a lot better than a movie.

When You Want Alaska

This mystery/romance is a great read for anyone who loves to imagine life in Alaska. The new police chief relocates to a small Alaskan town right in the middle of the winter. Everyone places bets on whether or not he'll last until breakup. His romance with the local bush pilot is well plotted and reads believably.

I enjoy a story about the frontier and the tough minded folks who live there. This story is has a generational whodunit that keeps the reader engaged.

Gary Littman does a great job reading this narrative. His tone changes as his dry, damaged character begins to be charmed by the natural beauty of his surroundings. Very well done!

Profanity turned me off.

Was not crazy about the narration but the profanity turned me off. I returned the book.
