Publisher's summary

Beth Venable has seen too much. Witness to a major mob hit, she's placed in protective custody until the trial. But after her third safe house is riddled with bullets, she goes offgrid to save herself. What the FBI can't do, her kinfolk will.

The beautiful but forbidding Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky welcome Beth back, with dirt roads and rustic shacks a world apart from L.A. But her homecoming—even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker—is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep. Hidden in a remote cabin with the man she's always wanted, Beth begins to dream of a new life: her old one. But after so long, with such dangers stalking her…it seems impossible. But love can distill life down to its essence: an elixir of pure hope, nerve—and the will to survive.

Outstanding!!! From start to finish....loved it!!!

I always enjoy Sharon Sala - but she outdid herself with this one. What a charming group of characters and the action and romance balanced perfectly. Can't wait for the next one in this series!!

Next of Kin

I enjoyed the story very much. But the narrator nearly put me to sleep several times. Her delivery was so monotone. I liked the book but if I buy any more by this author, it will be in print form, not audio. Unless there is a different narrator.

Just what I was looking for

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it held my interest and had a good plot

What was one of the most memorable moments of Next of Kin?

When family came to her defense against the bad guys in the big fight scene in the mountain

Which scene was your favorite?

One of them was when she is picked up by the truckers for the first time. I could feel her release at finally going home.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep

Any additional comments?

Salad always delivers for me .

Loved this Audible book!

The story, performance, everything about this book was great! Just enough mystery and romance without being over the top. Sometimes the reader can detract from a story, but this was spot on. Great job all around!!

Great Start to a Great Series

This is my 3rd time listening to this book. I just love Beth’s and Raul’s story. I love how this family truly believes in true family values. You see so little of that in real life. So to find a series where you can truly get lost in for a little while is pure bliss. I can not wait to listen to Quinn’s story in the next book Don’t Cry for Me. Love Sharan Sala’s books.

Expertly written and refreshing.

This was my first Sharon Sala book.

This is for you if you like quality writing and excellent narration. Sala is flawless in her ability to let you know which character is thinking or speaking without having that character’s name be the title of a chapter. In fact, she can include the point of view of any character, main or secondary, and the flow is seamless and the POV is welcome rather than intrusive.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend that if you are intrigued by the blurb and story idea, take a chance. I loved the writing style and the main characters were very likeable and honourable. Misunderstandings were resolved swiftly and the author dealt with the crux of the romance and love story with class.

I’m glad I found this author. I’ll look out for more by her.

Narrator Kathe Mazur did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. I loved her performance.

Good grief

This was a total DNF. So many things wrong with this book.

Far too much talking. Beth watches a murder, screams, friend comes running out, then they stand there talking, not doing anything, friend not looking to see for herself, not calling 911. Nope. Talking. Police talk about suspect, not doing anything. Suspect/mobster talks, but he does it just to display his arrogance. And then again. And then some more. Note to author: your readers aren’t stupid.

Here’s the good grief part: exactly how many times do we have to be reminded the MCs screwed a decade ago? Certainly not on every other page. Oh, the angst. I was rolling my eyes by the third time. After that, I just got annoyed. Again, I’m not stupid.

Finally, did I mention the fling/relationship was 10 years in the past? These two acted like teenagers who broke up a month before. Geez, do something about it or move the heck on. Ten years is a long time, unbelievably so. Cue more eye rolls. (Apparently, the lovers are stupid.)

I can guess how the rest of the book goes, and just don’t care about the characters. Not worth any more time.
Not recommended.
