Audie Award Nominee, Romance, 2013

Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her "touched." Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn't speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty -unprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions. Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.

I enoyed this one but I just don't get the hype?

I wasn't planning to write a review, however, I felt compelled to give my 2 cents since I did not LOVE this one. Don't get me wrong, it was enjoyable, worth a credit and I don't feel as though I wasted my time. (narration was very good too)

I love romance books and this had the formula: Boy meets girl, conflict happens, conflict resolved, boy/girl learn and grow, they live happily ever after. This is the perfect formula for romance. This book had that and then some.

So, why didn't I love this book? I think it was all the hype. I expected this one to make me go "WOW, AMAZING, this is the best romance book out there". Sadly, it just didn't stick out as better then some of the other books I've read. Had I not seen all the positive reviews perhaps my expectations would have been lowered?
That being said, I did enjoy this one and will get the next book when it comes out.

4 stars, but was hoping for 5

Maya Banks gets better with each book

Maya Banks should stick to writing highland stories. She is at her best in this story! I enjoy all of her highland novels, but this first book of her new series is her greatest yet!!!

I laughed and cried at this beautiful story. Don't miss this one!

Sweet love story

I've enjoyed several Maya Banks books, and this one is no different. I love Kirsten Potter, and totally adore "highlander love and war", so I knew I was in for a treat!

I liked the overall storyline, and the challenges that Eveline (sp?) faced because of her situation made me love her all the more. There were a few moments where I thought the story was a little slow, but overall it was a sweet love story. It's comparable to her other highlander series, but it doesn't seem like you're listening to the same story again. I'm interested to see what happens next in book 2!

FUN BUT FLAWED - still yummy tho

It's not every day your heroine is deaf. I was immediately intrigued by this because I wondered how the author would pull it off. Well, she almost did it.

Meet Eveline Armstrong, a beautiful girl who took a tumble from a horse a few years back and is now daft. Or so everyone thinks. SHe was going to have to marry this guy who wanted to do icky things to her so she played dumb. No one in her whole family notices in three years that she's deaf.

Graeme, awesome hero of our story, notices the first day he meets her... or well has an itch of an idea that he learns almost immediately after they're married.

So I say almost - and even though I really enjoyed this book, you may notice I gave it four stays and the story 3... The thing is, Eveline has only been deaf for a few years yet she's learned how to read lips PERFECTLY every single time. With no mixups. And the fact that she's deaf isn't a problem for anyone it's simply who she is - think Hatfields and McCoys.

I think the author did a great job working with her being deaf and how people respond but between her family not knowing, her new husband finding out immediately, her fiance wanting to do things so horrible she has to get away from him (why he wants to do these things is never explained he's just a bad guy to be a bad guy), and the fact that the moment she starts talking she goes on and on with no problem and only a little weirdness... it was a bit too unbelievable.

The story had a few continuity errors as well. Granted, I was listening and haven't relistened but what I heard was the Montgomery and Armstrong feud has been going on for 50 years ever since Eveline's grandfather killed Graeme's father. SO lets do the math shall we? Graeme is the oldest of four... considering there could have been a few deaths here or there, we can assume he's at least late fifties early 60s. And described as not very attractive - it's his voice that is sexy. WHAT?? So the sexy guy on the cover is an ugly 58 year old who still isn't ready to get married when he's forced to marry Eveline? I don't think the author meant that so I hope I heard wrong... except it kept getting reaffirmed throughout the book. I chose to ignore it and focus on the guy on the cover of the novel. Geez.

Anyway, I always say honesty is my best policy and I try and give truthful reviews so I'll give you this... ignore the few hiccups I mentioned and spend the credit - despite its flaws it's still worth a listen.

Loved the whole book!

If you could sum up Never Seduce a Scot in three words, what would they be?

Happily Ever After

What did you like best about this story?

I loved that this book had everything I want in a good story. Great characters, great plot, wonderful voice to listen to while getting involved in the story and hard problems to solve.

What about Kirsten Potter’s performance did you like?

Kirsten Potter did an excellent job with the narration, especially the accents.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

She lived in a world of her own making, until he woke her up from her hibernation.

Any additional comments?

Great book. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.
