The last thing Ella Sinclair needed on her birthday was a cheating boyfriend, a broken heart, and a dead car battery in a remote beach town. At her greatest moment of need, the protective and sexy Porter Masters comes to her rescue. Ella takes a holiday week at the coast to discover herself and finds that her attraction to Porter is potent and undeniable. Uncertain of their future together, Ella struggles to open her heart to trust again. Porter Masters takes care of his own: his single mother, his company, and now he's compelled to protect the beauty that walked into his world. Never one for relationships in his past, Porter discovers that he was waiting all along for Ella. As their time together comes to an end, will Porter fight for the woman who stole his heart, despite the obstacles? Contains mature themes.

This book never let me go from the second it started! An awesome story of real passion with an incredible ending. An emotional roller coaster. The narrator was really on it, very sensitive and you get the feeling she was moved by it too. Absolutely worth a credit, if you can handle how you’ll feel afterwards, when you want more!
I am an avid listener. I listen between 75-100 hours per month on my iPhone: 60% fiction to 40% non-fiction.
The first thing to grab you about this novel is the atrocious dialog. Not that the words themselves are inappropriate, more that the dialog is stilted and has a hollow empty feeling to the repartee. Timing is always a challenge in novels especially in novels where the time period is so brief. Michaels does a horrendous job in handling time and making a credible argument for her plot.
Throughout the novel the conflicts were not intense and obstacles were easily knocked down and resolved involving a simple conversation or foreseeable even. Even her sister was so easily turned around as to tax belief. As for the end of the novel, it was easy to guess in what direction things were heading; the interactions at the end of the book not don't make sense at all -- none. there were numerous breaking of character which is never great in the final six minutes. It was as if she decided, oh hey, my publisher is giving me a contract for a sequel, I've got to do something that will give me a starting point. Let me throw in some non-nonsensical behavior not seen in the last 98% of the pages so I have something to work with.
So wow, this novel is a train wreck. Yet, a train wreck with unresolved a who-dun-nit. Also in a train wreck it is hard to look the other way. Is it worth another 10 plus hours of her style on a plot that has great potential, or should I jut cut my losses? I don't know. I don't recommend this novel if you haven't already bought it. If you bought it, be prepared to be in a quandary about the sequel. I''m going to flip a coin to decide to go on. If I lose, I might make it best of three.
I'm a grad student with very little time to edit reviews because I'm editing research papers. Forgive the typos. They're made with love.
So this has been sitting on my phone for a while... I realized I never listened to it and gave it a chance. Ugh.
There's really no way to explain the absolute basic level writing, incomplete plots, characters going off course with their already established personalities... and then BOOM an ending out of left field that is ridiculous after all that just happened in the last moments.
I get the feeling this book doesn't know what it wants to be. The first half is something out of a Nicholas Sparks book. The second is erotica. Then characters do 180s and make no sense.
Please explain to me why a guy you dated for 4 years, was probably someone you wanted to marry, goes from being your typical boyfriend businessman who cheats on you to someone who has one sip of alcohol and suddenly becomes a physically abusive prick who wants to knock your lights out. Or that you run screaming to your place of business, and a "beggar" in a hoodie decides to shoot you in the shoulder. For no reason other than it will cause drama and a cliffhanger at the end of the book? Or maybe the boyfriend went even more crazy and IS the shooter? I have no idea - that's just speculation from how everything ended.
This book was painful to listen to. The writing went on a tailspin and the narrator sounded like a Christmas elf or a 5-year-old for most of the book.
I can't stress this enough - unless it's free, don't bother. And from what I've read about the second book, mainly because we are left with a crazy cliffhanger, the next in the series are not worth it either.
I am a lover of books. I enjoy losing myself in a fabulous romance and great story plot.
Overall, this was a sweet one! Ella Sinclair is the kind of girl that every woman will root for when it relates to love. Mainly, because her 4-year relationship with her boyfriend Kyle came to a devastating end as Ella caught him with another woman…UGH! How awful! So, you really feel for Ella when she goes ahead with her plans of a romantic beach getaway sans ex-boyfriend. But, then she meets this handsome man, Porter, who helped her when she found herself in a rut and in the rain.---Well, Porter and Ella's romantic entanglement ensued from there, at a nice pace, I should add. Even though one would anticipate that getting involved with another guy just a few days after you break up with your boyfriend is a bad decision, well, it just wasn't for Porter and Ella. I mean they had this "HEY I JUST MET YOU AND THIS IS CRAZY, BUT I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU-CALL ME MAYBE" chemistry…LOL Porter was very sweet and quite the hero with Ella. The issues arise when they have to figure out the logistics of a long-distance relationship. Yet, the crushing part comes at the very end with the cliffhanger that threw this book in a totally different direction than I anticipated…..WOW! Just crazy! With a cliffy like that, you just need to plow through immediately to book 2!
Narrator: Romy Nordlinger's voice has an odd quality to it, that I can't really put my finger on….her voice is not my favorite, but I got used to it soon enough.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
On the whole I really enjoyed this book but the ending really put me off.
Ella finds her boyfriend of four years cheating on her, she panics and runs. Ella and Kyle were due to spend a week rekindling their relationship at a cottage on the beach so this is where she heads. Sobbing and distraught she pulls into the local bar where she meets Porter Masters and suddenly Kyle's betrayal doesn't seem quite as earth shattering as it did moments ago.
This book was a nice interesting read and I just love Porter, I liked Ella but she did have a couple of stupid moments. Although enjoyable it wasn't without its faults and if I'm being totally honest I didn't like the way it ended, not just the fact that it ended but I didn't like the way it did so I personally won't be reading the next one which is a shame since until then it had been good.
Romy Nordlinger was OK but not great with the delivery of the story.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
This is one sugary sweet, romantic and sigh-worthy listen and, as Ella and Porter's love story unfolded, I was drawn into their passion, desires, tender love scenes and the painful dilemma that these two loveable characters faced.
But what I wasn't prepared for was the shocking events that this author had lying waiting for the happy unsuspecting listener in the last few chapters which were dramatic, raw, heart wrenching and all my WTF's, OMG's and tears couldn't take away the heartache of this torturous CLIFFHANGER ending. I only hope Audible can follow up with book two very very very very quickly.
Worth a credit? Loveable H/H and secondary characters, some angst, sex, drama, a bitter ex and, of course the cliffhanger, makes this a very creditworthy listen. But if you're not a fan of the fast 'instant love' plot or one that's filled with sweet sentiments, tender gestures and a very romantic story then maybe pass on this one.
Yes . . . enjoyed this new author and the story. Found (and purchased) because it's narrated by one of my favorite narrators: Romy Nordlinger!! Keep having Romy narrate your books - please!
Porter . . .
Not yet, but have already purchased books 2 and 3 in this series . . . and hope there are more to follow.
Great job, Anie!!
I liked the book even though I think finding your life mate and falling head over heels in love takes longer than a week. The guy is really sweet and makes my heart go pitter pat and all but sweet baby Jesus, what a cliffhanger at the end. Without the cliffhanger I would have given it four stars. The only other negative being the super duper fast falling in love.
This is a beautiful story but sad at the end. Porter is a very good man and his love will conquer anything. sniff sniff
