When it comes to caring for the furry residents of St. Helena, California, groomer and pet rescuer Shay Michaels can handle anything. Humans are another story, though--especially Deputy Jonah Baudouin. He's the town's resident superhero: upright, uptight, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous, even when he's investigating complaints about Shay's beloved foster animals. And that spells danger for Shay, a free spirit who can't risk trusting the wrong person again.
Jonah and Shay have been circling each other ever since she came to town, and he's running out of reasons not to kiss her senseless. But this deputy is a straight shooter with his eye on the sheriff's badge. He can't afford to get involved with Shay, a chaos magnet with luscious curves who's liable to turn his career--and his life--upside down. He enforces laws. She breaks them--repeatedly. Keeping her out of trouble is becoming a full-time job...and it's one he hopes is never going to end.

Be careful with this book. You may find yourself longing for a pet, if you don't already have one, after reading this story.
Marina Adair wove a story steeped in small town closeness, a longing to be intricately connected to that town and a love strong enough to break through the insecurities of two people running from their past.
I appreciate Ms. Adair's ability to write a story with many levels. There was a great deal more going on than a sweet love story between two multi-dimensional characters who fought their feelings for each other from the beginning. The personality of the town and two and four-legged secondary characters were funny, intriguing and real.
I loved Shay's headstrong and quirky nature. It was the perfect antithesis to Jonah's straightforward and structured nature. Shay's elderly friends were a hoot. I found myself smiling widely and laughing out loud at the women's antics, but by the end of the book my smile was due to the warm feelings of satisfaction.
Renee Raudman did a great job with all the different character voices. Her performance was stellar and added to the enjoyment of this book.
I couldn't get into the book. Too much focus on the animals and not enough focus on the "romantic connection "of the two characters. Great if you are a pet lover. I am not. This book was a waste of a credit .
You win some you lose some.
The pet were cute but the h/H were boring and took forever to start their relationship. The hot cop from next door were not that interesting after all...
Nice, funny moments but very warm.
Took a while to get in to but well worth sticking with it, glad I did as I really enjoyed the funny twists and turns
