Publisher's summary

Dean Robillard is the Chicago Stars' hotshot quarterback. Not only does he have lightening reflexes on the field, he is also utterly gorgeous. First introduced in the critically acclaimed Match Me If You Can, Dean is trying to recover (both mentally and physically) from a shoulder injury by taking a road trip. Along the way, he meets Blue, a beautiful woman down on her luck, and as they spend more time together their attraction grows. Blue has had a string of bad relationships and doesn't want to trust Dean right away. But they wind up living together, along with Dean's troubled half-sister, and learn that families and luck work in mysterious ways.

This is a hilarious new novel by New York Times best-selling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Critic reviews

  • Audie Award Winner, Romance, 2008

"Generously seasoned with plenty of tart humor and snappy dialogue, and graced with a delightfully amusing pair of protagonists trying desperately not to fall in love, Natural Born Charmer is simply irresistible." (Booklist)

Chick lit but still fun read

I usually listen to more thought provoking books, but the brain needs a break now and then. This book was clever, interesting and fun. I'm not a big fan of the narrator, sometimes her voice drives me up the wall, but if you can get past that, I would highly recommend.

Enjoyable

If you are looking for something intellectual, this is not it. If you are , however, looking for something entertaining to listen to while you drive, this is a good one. I like it better than the other football stars' stories.

The cherry on the Banana Split

Susan Elizabeth Phillips made this book the cherry on top of her big banana split collection of books. It's fantastic. Amusing, funny, heartbreakingly emotional. I absolutely loved it as I do with all her books.

The Rip-Roaring Fun of Falling in Love

What did you love best about Natural Born Charmer?

The richness of the characters, plot and setting will charm you out of sleep for a night or two, at least.

Early on I felt like I was commiserating with one or another of them. Susan's characters are always charming and full of love, even the most hon'ry ones - you'll meet a doozie of a woman in this book. Of course, it was ridiculously witty, some dry, most sarcastic, all good-natured.

An honorable mention must go to the EXCELLENT narration of Anna Fields, who brought every character - whether aged eleven or seventy-much - to life. I actually read 'Charmer' on the strength of her narration of another author's work.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Natural Born Charmer?

It's a good-length book, and the story bounces and dashes along. There are, literally, no dull moments (thank goodness!).

Without spoilers my three picks for memorable moments would be "The Arrival of Wild Jack", "Neeta Teaches Riley To 'Walk'", and "Dean Expects The Worst". Read the book and you'll find each one.

Which scene was your favorite?

It should be a romantic one, but I choose 'Catfight at the 'Grill Barn'" .... Hi-larious!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hahaha ... "Country Strong" Meets "Taming of the Shrew" meets "Cheers (If It Was Set on an Old Farm in Kentucky)". Sorry, best I could do.

Any additional comments?

You will not regret the credit spent on this fabulous novel. It's funny, full of wisdom, and of course, lots of love.

LOL

I laughed out loud! Right from the beginning this was a light entertaining book. Even though her characters are in her previous book they always stand alone, so you can pick up any of her books and not have to re-listen to figure out the story. I was waiting for this to come out in audio and wasn't disappointed. The narrator is excellent!
