Publisher's Summary

"My dear girl! I could never fall in love by letter. Though I have no doubt you are a notorious breaker of hearts, not to mention a princess in disguise, and if I were a few miles closer to Toot-above-the-Batch I would be in great danger. From the safe distance of another continent, I will admit to a modest desire to see how your pearl becomes you, even to know the color of your hair and eyes, but this is mere curiosity, I assure you."

"Delightful Journey of Romance vs Reality"

This is my first book by Laura Kinsale so I didnt know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find this author wrote complex real to life characters along with a story that was a combination of romance, mystery, and adventure.

For me, this was the kind of book that kept me guessing along the way. The main character Robert is a controlled, multi-faceted man of means and Folly is a woman who is a romantic dreamer who slowly loses faith in her quest. Together their romance grows in an unusual progression of adventure where they learn trust, faith and the journey of love.

The narrator was terrific. His voice is perfect for this type of story. His voice reminds me of the voice of (the actor) Richard Armitage who has narrated a few books on Audible. .

If you enjoy a great romantic/mystery story that doesn't have detailed sex scenes then I would highly recommend this book.

"More like My Fiesty Folly! Great Heroine!"
What does Nicholas Boulton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He doesn't read the book to you -- he acts out the book to you. There are no words to describe how brilliant his acting is. Every character has a distinct personality and I'm positive the personality is exactly as Laura Kinsale intended.

    Any additional comments?

I wondered how Laura Kinsale would get 10+ hours out of such a sweet beginning. I should have known there would be a few "what!" moments. It's Laura Kinsale afterall. And I must say that I really liked our heroine, Folly. She was a real person (witty and appropriately sarcastic!) Robert on the other hand was hard to like but again a very real person - I've definitely known men like him in my lifetime. Worth the credit and your time!

"Another brilliant read from Kinsale and Boulton"

As with the other Kinsale books I've enjoyed, the two main characters are interesting and complex. The secondary characters are also well developed. The story is unveiled skillfully and I enjoyed it completely. The story had similar themes as Prince of Midnight and Flowers from the Storm - wherein the main character is in a struggle for recovery or redemption. Ms. Kinsale's characters are not drawn from the model of male or female perfection; they evolve through the course of the story.

This is a sweet love story that takes place over a number of years; there is a bit of adventure and a nice bit of romance.

And, as always, Boulton's narration alone is worth the credit.

    "Another amazing listen!!!"

Cannot say enough about the combination of this author and this narrator. Amazing how she portrays the struggles in the minds of characters. Laughed out loud many times in this book, and also was very touched by the twists in the story line. This ranks right up there with 'Flowers From the Storm' as my all time favorite audio books. And the narrator continues to be amazing. What a talent for bringing characters, thoughts and emotions to life! I listened to almost the entire book in one day, couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Would give 10 stars for this if I could.

This fellow is just the best there is to bring the printed word to the heard word. Get the audible version even if you have the printed text. Audible listening like it should be with the choice of narrator really enhancing your fun.

    "Complex & wonderful storyline,amazing narrator"
    Any additional comments?

This is perhaps one of Laura Kinsale's best books I have listened to on Audible. The plot here is one of the most complex I have seen her do and she keeps you guessing throughout the book to no avail. LK is a truly talented writer. This book is witty, clever, and touching. Again, I can not say enough about how Nicholas Boulton brings characters to life with his superb narration. I absolutely adore him. LK + NB = An amazing book well worth your time.

A great read in print, while an absolutely nonpareil narrator brings the characters to life in the audio version in all their fullness providing an extra dimension only the ear can perceive. Buy the audio even if you've read the printed book. Congrations to the author for finding such a superb reader.

"Sexy and Sweet and Mysterious, too!"

Robert Cambourne and Folie Hamilton meet via letter writing, which is the regency era version of online romancing. These letters open the novel and reveal to us our two heroes with somewhat of a filter on them. Is what they are saying about themselves and their situations real or touched-up? I thought this type of introduction unique and complex, sort of reminiscent of Wuthering Heights point of view, which is so convoluted, that one is never sure who is authentically represented.

So we have these letters which are our first impressions of Robert and Folie and we spend the rest of the novel trying to reconcile our initial impressions with the real people. And I think the characters do this too. Folie especially has to grow in her understanding of Robert as a man who is much more damaged than she ever imagined one could be…she has lived a very sheltered life.

I'm partial to Laura Kinsale so I will always find her books exceptional, but My Sweet Folly has the distinction of being, whether by design or accident, one of her only heroine-centric stories. I say this because by the end of the book we know Folie and are happy for her success at love; Robert continues to be somewhat of a mysterious figure. I like a little mystery in my man but Robert is unknowable. He is still attractive, but there is something of a block between us, the reader, and him.

Nicholas Boulton continues his string of successful narrations of Kinsale’s books. In the middle of listening to this audio book, I thought, this is the best audio version of Kinsale’s books yet- but then I always think that which each book – and I guess that is a testament to NB’s power as a reader. His sureness as an actor comes through and all I can say is, I believe you! I believe with every word that I am listening to a real person and I am inside their real lives.

I did not learn to read until I was in my twenties. Have not stopped since. The two most important things to learn are reading & chess.

    "I Hooked"

This is the second book by Kinsale I have listen to. I am hooked. The plots are similar but at the same time they are different enough to keep the audience wanting here more and listen to the end. I do not think anyone but Boulton could do theses stories justice. He gives a great performance.

Before finishing "My Sweet Folly" I downloaded another Kinsale book.

    "Beautiful writing and great narration"
Would you consider the audio edition of My Sweet Folly to be better than the print version?

Yes!, Nicholas Bolton adds life and depth.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Robert. Laura kinsale is not afraid to write male characters that are tour tortured, brave, vulnerable and strong.

What does Nicholas Boulton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He seems to be breathing and feeling the words - never reading. His voices are all distinct and three-dimensional. They have depth and humor and passion.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!! I was sitting in the parking lot at work.

    Any additional comments?

I had the same experience with another of her books and Nicholas' acting. What does this man do in his spare time?
