Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and The Last Summer (of You and Me) comes an imaginative, inspired, magical book - a love story that lasts more than a lifetime.

Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together - and he remembers it all. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize souls of those he's previously known. It is a gift and a curse. For all the times that he and Sophia have been drawn together throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. A love always too short.

Interwoven through Sophia and Daniel's unfolding present-day relationship are glimpses of their expansive history together.

From 552 Asia Minor to 1918 England and 1972 Virginia, the two souls share a long and sometimes torturous path of seeking each other time and time again. But just when young Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally begins to awaken to the secret of their shared past, to understand the true reason for the strength of their attraction, the mysterious force that has always torn them apart reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime together.

A magical, suspenseful, heartbreaking story of true love, My Name is Memory proves the power and endurance of a union that was meant to be.

DONT READ UNTIL THE SEQUEL COMES OUT!!!

I am one of those readers that enjoys a little cliffhanger at the end of a book if there is going to be a sequel(s). However, when I bought this book, I did not realize it was going to be a series. The story is great and I love the whole idea, but the ending really threw me off. I went to the authors website to see when the planned sequel was going to be released and there is nothing! She mentions wanting to write book 2 but there are no plans to right now. You have got to be kidding me!! The ending was the worst cliffhanger I have ever read and there is no planned sequel?!?!? No way lady...My advice to all listeners is pass this one by, wait for the "not planned" sequel first because this book has no ending. I would never have listened to it if I knew it ended like this!

Half good, half disappointing

I thought this book was going to be really great. The first half was quite good, but then it just fell apart. And, the ending was very unsatisfying. I read one review that said that the end was a setup for a sequel. Now that I've finished it, I agree. I also think the author (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) also might have had a movie in mind. It was too bad because the premise was really interesting to me (reincarnation).

If you enjoyed The Time Travelers Wife and books in that vein, you may enjoy this book. I really liked it. I think I will listen to it more than once.

My Name is Memory (Unabridged)

I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of detail and brought you right into the story. It made you feel the feelings in the book. The test of a good writer. It is definately a love story. The ending certainly left the possibility for a sequel. I hope and look forward to a sequel. This a combination of "Time Traveler's Wife" and "The Outlander." As Ann Barshares matures in her writings of Adult Novels, I think she will become one of my favorite authors. I hope she sticks with including lots of details in her stories and takes the time needed to produce quality novels. Many authors are mass producting novels that are short, fast reads, but miss the richness or substance of this novel. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Sickeningly Sweet

The premise for this book sounded so promising and I was really looking forward to hearing it. Unfortunately, the main male character had no backbone. During his current life, I kept wanting to yell, "go get her, you idiot"!!!!! I guess though, in order for there to even be a story, he needed to be weak & stupid. The book, in some areas was so sickeningly sweet (and I normally love a good romance). Like other reviewers have said, yes... the book just 'ended' - there are future story lines to be written. I however, won't be one of the readers!!

Half-Formulated Plot

It feels as though she started this book with a great idea but couldn't quite deliver. It ends with a cliff hanger filled with vague/obscure explanations which was incredibly frustrating. Interactions are bland, two dimensional.

Great words, abrupt ending

Would you listen to My Name Is Memory again? Why?

No, there isn't really a reason to listen again.

Would you be willing to try another book from Ann Brashares? Why or why not?

Yes, Ann's words were lovely and she's a great writer.

Which character – as performed by Kathe Mazur – was your favorite?

I likes Constance the best, with her English accent and whatnot.

Any additional comments?

Overall this was a good book. I just need more of it to have some sort of closure.

A book that will span hundreds of lifetimes

Absolutely loved the Audio version. The contrast of Male and Female voices in adhering fashion; splendid.

Good idea, bad execution

If you're going to write a time traveler tale, you should set the scene in historical periods where there is more access to details. This book simply has nothing going on, except "falling in love". And, a little bit of war and conflict. Isn't there anything more interesting about life in the distant and not-too-distant past than love and sex and finding and re-finding the one and only person who can complete you?
