Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and The Last Summer (of You and Me) comes an imaginative, inspired, magical book - a love story that lasts more than a lifetime.

Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together - and he remembers it all. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize souls of those he's previously known. It is a gift and a curse. For all the times that he and Sophia have been drawn together throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. A love always too short.

Interwoven through Sophia and Daniel's unfolding present-day relationship are glimpses of their expansive history together.

From 552 Asia Minor to 1918 England and 1972 Virginia, the two souls share a long and sometimes torturous path of seeking each other time and time again. But just when young Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally begins to awaken to the secret of their shared past, to understand the true reason for the strength of their attraction, the mysterious force that has always torn them apart reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime together.

A magical, suspenseful, heartbreaking story of true love, My Name is Memory proves the power and endurance of a union that was meant to be.

Basic Ending

Not everyone wants a baby! but now that she's prego... Daniel will die and become the baby! Unfortunately, we'll never know because the author isn't as cool as Andy Weir and won't publish the 2nd book online for free. (cause her ppl won't publish it at all)

I'm also guessing at the end of my imaginary book 2, Lucy and Daniel Jr die during Laboratory and delivery, allowing the 2 to reunite as siblings. Because life sucks for them... there really should be some ground rules!

Obviously the book is great! Go read it!

Sequel coming 2021!

I have read this book many times over the years and I still love it! I bought it at a bookstore about 10 years ago and eventually listened to the audiobook. Even after 10 years I still find myself thinking about Daniel and Lucy hoping for a sequel. This is the type of book that never leaves you. If you are lucky enough to read this in 2021..well consider yourself lucky you don't have to wait too much longer for book 2!
I'm so excited the 2nd book is finally being released this year!!!! Hoping they make a movie out of this one as well.

These reviews are unfair.

Look, I've read this book about 20 times since it came out in 2011, then listened to it another 20. I'm upset that the sequel never came out ;according to Ann's website, she has finished it 🤷🏻‍♀️) but I won't rate this book a low rating because I'm annoyed about that. This story is phenomenal. The book is absolutely beautiful and so are the characters.

Just be advised going into it that it's a massive cliffhanger. Honestly, I would still go for it regardless. The story is beautiful. The MMA is reborn into lifetime after lifetimes remembering all of his lives before. Along with those memories, he also remembers a woman from his very first life. He searches for her in every lifetime and recognizes her soul in another.
It seems to never really line up for them and he faces big obstacles in every life, trying to figure out how to get to her.

Ugh, I love it so much. I really, REALLY hope she finishes the series.

Good company when I needed it

The title of my book sounds more needy than I feel. I just sometimes use Books as companions now that I’m working from home. I enjoyed this one. I went to the authors website because I was going to give her a compliment, but it didn’t have an option for that. I worry that that’s because so many people are kind of bad shit crazy and say ridiculous things to people like authors. So I came here to this review to say hey thanks for writing this. I did enjoy it. Some romantic bits were a little bit cloying, but it was OK. I mean that part was OK. The book was good, so thanks for writing it and I hope eventually the second one gets birthed into the world. I can’t imagine being an author and a mother of four. go mom good work.

A Story About Reincarnation and Soulmates..

I am especially interested in books that incorporate reincarnation into the storyline. This novel is that and more.
Daniel's first lifetime (that he remembers) was in the 6th century. And it was during that lifetime he first came into contact with Lucy, although she had a different name in that lifetime and in subsequent lives. Daniel remembers ("My Name is Memory") his many lives while Lucy does not.
The story might be a little slow in the middle for readers who are not interested in reincarnation. I enjoyed it because it includes more details about the concept, whether they are true or not.
I did find the teenage slang to be a bit annoying. I don't think it's wise for an author to attempt to write in the idiomatic language of a different generation.
Overall, I think it's a 4 star audible book.

A Sweeping Love Story through History

I have read My Name is Memory twice now. After my first read, I let it ruminate for some years before returning to it again in the form of this audiobook. I do read a lot of books, and yet this story stayed with me more than others tend to do. I could pull out distinct memories and visualizations that Brashares planted in my mind long after I had turned the last page or heard the final lines. I will admit that the ending is a bit frustrating, but it is worth it just to hear how everything builds up for our protagonists over the many historical eras that span their love story. You have not read a book like this before.

it was perfect! I love the story!!

the narrator portrayed different personas on each character. the two different narrators was a great way to bring the story to it's perspective.

Good story

I found myself actually enjoying reading the hard copy of this book more than the audiobook.
