Very Disappointing.. Mostly cheesy stories

I like Charlaine Harris so I gave this one a try. I only kind of liked 3 of the 9 stories. There was really only one that I could honestly say I enjoyed completely (that was the first story). They were almost all really corny... mostly sappy love stories involving supernatural beings and magic. I guess I should have expected that.

Boring

Borrow a friends copy. I hit fast forward to pass over a few of the stories.

If you like paranormal romance novellas

A mixed bag of shorts, all a little over an hour in length. A few occur within the world of an author’s series, sometimes making it hard to enjoy if you’re not already up on the world. On the whole, these were more campy and cute than spooky or dark. Half of the books are all about romance and half are paranormal novellas that just happen to occur around a wedding. Except for story 8, there’s nothing more than kisses before the HEA.

1. Spellbound by L.A. Banks: Two lovebirds hailing from the Hatfields and McCoys get together in modern times with voodoo hijinks. Lots of accents and a little silly. ⭐️⭐️
2. Something Borrowed by Jim Butcher: Harry Dresden finds himself monster hunting to save his friends wedding. This short exists in other anthologies. If this short is the reason you want this book,
I recommend you get the Dresden collection of shorts titled Side Jobs. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
3. Dead Man’s Chest by Rachel Caine. Cecilia boards a touristy “pirate” ship to wed Ian and finds a Jack Sparrow adventure. Has the campy feel of Robyn Peterman’s books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4. All Shook Up by PN Elrod. Frankie’s got the “vibe” and a crush on the Elvis impersonator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
5. The Wedding of Wilda Serene by Esther M Freezner. (sp?) A wedding among Greek gods and drama by the likes of Aphrodite. The narrator’s females are super cringe. ⭐️⭐️
6. Charmed by the Moon by Lori Handeland. Unlikable white werewolf hunter condescendingly refers to her fiancé’s magic as “Ojibwe woowoo.” ⭐️
7. Tacky by Charlaine Harris. Vampires and weres making nice for a wedding. Appears to be set in Sookie Stackhouse world. ⭐️⭐️
8. A Hard Day’s Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Romance between a Dark Hunter and his protector squire. Apparently, Rafael and Celena’s short story is available as a two story novella in the Dark-Hunter series. Love the narrator’s growly dark voice, like the humor, but his voicing for Celena…yeesh. ⭐️⭐️
9. Or Forever Hold Your Peace by Susan Krinard. A British colonial paranormal spy romance? Stuffed a lot of magics and plots into this short. Reminded me of Parasol Protectorate. ⭐️⭐️
