You can never go home again
Joanne Walker has survived an encounter with the Master at great personal cost, but now her father is missing - stolen from the timeline. She must finally return to North Carolina to find him - and to meet Aidan, the son she left behind long ago.
That would be enough for any shaman to face, but Joanne's beloved Appalachians are being torn apart by an evil reaching forward from the distant past. Anything that gets in its way becomes tainted - or worse.
And Aidan has gotten in the way.
Only by calling on every aspect of her shamanic powers can Joanne pull the past apart and weave a better future. It will take everything she has - and more.
Unless she can turn back time…

Wow this series just gets better and better.I just loved it.
Continuing directly from the 7th book, Joanne directly goes from her fight in Ireland straight to North Carolina. This time following her father's heritage and her own past. It has time traveling, zombies, flying cars, and ancestor sprits... If you don't know the series, people are just going to scratch their head with that description. And for the first time I am going to put this into my "romance shelf"!
Although the series is published by Harlequin (well Luna), the stories are never quite romantic or cannot be categorized as romance. But in this 8th book it finally has romance worth mentioning. Well it's not as if there were no men in Joanne's life. I admit there were Thor and of course Cayote. Well, this time it's with the very very long awaited MORRISON!! So of course it's different and special. In any case I missed him very much in the previous book so I was very happy he was with Joanne all through the book. On the other hand no Garry, he is left in Ireland. I guess though the next book will be with him. I just bought No Dominion so that will probably tie it up to the end of this book I'm hoping.
Another satisfying read and again it's going to be agony waiting for the next book!!
And of course another great narration by Gabra Zackman! She does "Walker-ism" soooo well.
I have been happily married for 17 years, I have 3 children (12, 14, & 16), and 2 dogs. I am currently working on a 2nd degree. Life is chaotic and stressful, but I wouldn't change it. I am blessed and enjoying my life.
Murphy is an automatic download. I wait anxiously for an entire year for each new book. I have really liked this series so far. Okay I have only listened to the first part of this book (3 hours in). I am definitely going to make myself listen to the rest of this book. At this point, what is getting on my nerves is the fact that EVERYTHING is her fault. This is all boiling down to her whining. Why??? Yes, I have listened to every book but come on...at this point she doesn't seem to be a very strong heroine she is just a whiny, woe is me type of heroine. I am antsy because I want to yell, buck up!!!!! I expected better of you! I am hoping it gets better :( I am not sure if Audible will allow me to revise this if it gets better, but I will try.
Back to her family's roots. Fighting demons in the hollows ("hollers"). Surprise visits by unexpected participants. But no Gary. Except for the last sentence of the book. I hope the next book answers the question of what happened to Gary.
This "episode" moves very fast; I feel like I sat through a condensed miniseries :)
I almost passed over No Dominion so am glad I read it before Mountain Echoes.
The narrator fits very well with this book/ author.
Starr Crystal Animations
Are you kidding me!!!
I already listened to it 3 times, All 9 books !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting ready to do it again.
I want Shaman Rises (Walker papers Book 9) as well !!!!!!!!!
Aidan because of his cutness. His resolve in being a shaman and that he doesn't hate his real mom. Joanne because she is the most!! John her heart throb & jake her best friend.
I also love cayotte & can't wait to see what happened to him.
Gabra Zackman has a unique way of doing all the voices especially Aidan.
You can tell all the emotions just by listening. I don't have to imagin as hard as I would if I just read it. Hurry up & do book 9, OK :)
They all were just amazing, exciting & this book especially made me cry and laugh and had me at the edge of my seat. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just hurry up with the next book will you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was goooooooooooood
Where's the latest book, "Shaman Rises"?
When will the audio version of "Shaman Rises" be released?
That Gary saw his wife Annie alive.
When will you have the audio version of "Shaman Rises"?
I love to read, but I am time-limited. Audible allows me to keep up with all my favorite authors while on the hiking trail. Thanks, Audible!
The Walker Papers are back (FINALLY). Even though it was a long wait, it was worth it. C. E. Murphy delivers an action-packed and hilarious emotional roller coaster through time. Joanne goes back home and ends up saving the world (again). This is a great listen, and Gabra Zackman is brilliant, as always.
This is a four star book for readers who have been following the series. While it has all the typical earmarks of the series: solid writing, fast plotting, good characterizations, snappy banter, and a particularly great magic system, this particular book's big payoff is in the resolution of Joanne's family background. She faces her past figuratively and literally as she has to come home to the Cherokee reservation that she spent her teenage years on. She discovered her mother's story in the last book, and in this book she learns her history on her father's side and faces the child she gave up for adoption. The book also has a lot of Morrison and their romance, which goes from budding to fully-realized. There is a lot of humor in the book as well as battle against evil and emotional reunions. I enjoyed this one mightily. The Cherokee history and lore was interesting as well.
I'm writing this book after having listened twice. It's very metaphysical and listening to it requires a different level of thinking. The overarching plot moved along, but not very satisfyingly.
Hmmm. Maybe I should read it again.
So, I Read This Book Today . . .
Absolutely wonderful. Ms. Murphy writes the most amazing, beautiful story of life, death, endings and beginnings. The past and the present the living and the dead become one, in a way that breaks your heart and uplifts your soul. Still my favourite author ever, love her and her writing even more than ever before. Thank you, 's Murphy, for a beautiful, uplifting story.
