Publisher's summary

This 10th novel in Robyn Carr’s New York Times best-selling series features scruffy-looking ex-Navy gynecologist Aiden Riordan and prickly lawyer Erin Foley. While each just wants to get away from it all for the summer, a bear scare, a bizarre concussion, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity thrust them together and kindle an unlikely romance. Then Aiden’s scheming ex-wife shows up.

Featured Article: Virgin River—The Definitive Explainer

Before it was adapted into a Netflix show, Virgin River was a series of more than 20 novels by New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr. The audiobooks, all read by Audie Award-winning narrator Thérèse Plummer, are well-loved by a wide audience. The series takes place in Virgin River and revolves around new resident Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner and midwife. There's more to this sleepy town than first appearances suggest.

Loved

I loved the story but it's getting hard to remember all the characters. I love that Mel and Jack are in every book because they are the ones that started it all and the most important characters of all. I really didn't like Mel as much in this story, although I understood what she was going through, I wish she was more grateful for the children she had.

Lots of Drama

This book in the series had a bit more high drama than the others, with a violent con artist for an ex-wife. It was still very good, although that type of plot device isn’t my favorite. I appreciated the continuing story lines of characters I’ve grown attached to in previous books in the series. I also enjoyed the sensitivity about topics such as adoption, surrogacy, Downs Syndrome, sex and aging, and hysterectomies. I recommend this book.

Not my favorite, but still good

Audiobook: Narrator - Therese Plummer

I’ve written it at least 10 times now. This narrator does an amazing job of bringing every single one of these characters to life. I absolutely love listening to her and I think she may have pulled some voodoo on me because I swear I hear her voice even when I quietly reading.

While I loved watching Aiden fall in love, I wasn’t a huge fan of Erin. She was just too harsh, judgey and high and mighty. At least that was my initial judgement of her from meeting her in A Virgin River Christmas, Ian and Marcie’s story. But as I listened, I learned and soon I was empathizing with her and the life she led. I wanted her to find her happy ever after with Aiden.

As most of these books, this also covers some of the characters from town. Sometimes this annoys me when we get pulled away from the “main couple” but it usually doesn’t last long. We got a good look at Art and his love interest and how all of that is being dealt with. When this narrator performs Art, I’m brought to my knees.

Great addition to the series. Maybe not my favorite, but still very entertaining.
