In Montana Sky Christmas, USA Today best-selling author Debra Holland offers seven short stories set in the small town of Sweetwater Springs, Montana in 1894.
These holiday stories are about various kinds of Christmas love - the romance between a man and a woman, the devotion of a husband to his wife's memory, and the love of a child for her goose. You'll hear about familiar characters from Sweetwater Springs and come to know new ones - many of whom you'll see again in future Montana Sky Series books and novellas.
The stories take place after Stormy Montana Sky, book three in the Montana Sky Series, but this anthology can be listened to as a standalone book.

In December 2012 I read the Kindle edition of Montana Sky Christmas and I remember thinking that this is a beautiful collection of short stories. As a fan of the Montana Sky Series, it was a wonderful insight into the lives of secondary characters.
I experienced a terrible loss this year so when I sat down to listen to the audio-book I was in a very different frame of mind. Montana Sky Christmas is still a beautiful collection of short stories that can be read as part of the series or as a stand alone piece.
Although I already knew the stories, I listened to it from a different perspective and was left feeling uplifted. I am adding Montana Sky Christmas to my annual Christmas listening list.
This book of short Christmas stories is charming and heartwarming. I thoroughly enjoyed this audible book. :)
It was a joy to revisit the characters residing in and around Sweetwater Springs during the Christmas season. If you are not feeling the Christmas spirit when you start these stories, you certainly will be! I can see myself listening to these again and again for the warm fuzzies feel they render.
OMG! How can I pick a favorite when each story pulled at my heartstrings?
I'll mention just four favorites from the collection:
Kayleigh's story was exciting and treacherous as she strove to save Prince, her cherished pet goose, from her own family's Christmas table.
I finally found out how the town of Sweetwater Springs hired a female sheriff! I'd been dying for this story and it does not disappoint!
Pepe's story will pull at your heartstrings with a huge tug. He loves Lucia, but doesn't have anything to offer her. I've wanted Pepe to have his own HEA since I first met him in Debra's books so this tale was a special treat.
The heartwarming story of a mix-up that evolved to much more. Louisa Cannon thought that Red Macalister wanted to take knitting classes from her...
I had too many favorites to mention them all. I'll share a quote from the story of Louisa & Red Macalister. He treasured his worn, holey red socks... This is why:
"The Christmas I was sixteen, my ma and I were poorer than church mice. My pa died when I was two, taking her heart with him." A smile curved his lips. "She could have remarried for a more comfortable life. But she couldn't bring herself to do it. We were happy, though, her and I. Just when I was getting old enough to do odd jobs, bring in some money to make her life easier, she got sick. I stayed home to nurse her. She had no strength left. But somehow she'd scraped together the last of her red yarn and made me a pair of stockings. My Christmas gift that year."
Sensing his thoughts lingered in the past, Louisa brushed a finger over the scrap in her palm.
"She died several weeks later."
Louise caught her breath, aching for the pain of that young man.
"I took a lot of ribbing for wearing red stockings. But I didn't give them up, even when I could afford to. I felt like they kept my ma close. Like she was with me."
Tears welled up in Louisa's eyes. One dripped over.
He caught the drop on the tip of his finger. "They brought me luck."
"That's why you're called Red. I wondered."

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Lara Asmundson's performance of each of the stories. Her voice is pleasant and clear and she skillfully differentiates between the characters. Her inflections are faultless and both her female and male voices sound realistic. I always thoroughly enjoy listening to her professional narrations and this wondrous set of tales is no exception.
As an avowed fan of Debra's books, I found each of these up-close-and-personal tales of the town's characters whom I've grown to think of as dear friends to be captivating and highly entertaining. After I finished each of them, I had the feeling of walking on clouds with a happy heart and a satisfied smile. If you love Debra's Sweetwater Springs tales, these should be a must-read! I highly recommend MONTANA SKY CHRISTMAS to anyone who delights in sweet Christmas stories. These are guaranteed to warm your heart!
I should have paid attention to who the narrator was and I would not have tried to listen to this book. You are definitely aware that you are being read to the entire time. It seems like you arr being read to by a high-school girl, definitely not professional quality. But as usual the author does an excellent job with her story.
I enjoy reading, listening and reviewing. I enjoy blogging. Doing what I enjoy giving feed back in hopes someone will try a new author.
Lovely very short stories of the town of Sweetwater Springs. A delightful beginning to a wonderful series giving you a taste of what is to come in the small town and its people. It was wonderful to see the characters that will show up in this town in future stories. This is just a little tease to get you interested in the books and the author. I found it highly entertaining with wonderful tales of a town I have fallen in love with.
Lara as always does a wonderful job of narrations. I love her voice and tones she brings so much to all her audios. Here you get a big taste of many different characters and her wonderful talent. There are no background noises just wonderful clean audio that will keep you smiling. Her many different voices are wonderful filled with emotions.
You are going to love Louisa Cannon and Red Macalister of him wanting red socks and her misunderstanding him thinking he wants to learn how to knit.
You get to know how the town hired the female sheriff which always held my interest.
Abe's story is touching how he misses his wife and wants his daughter to remember her mother and all the great times they had.
Sally travels into Montana Sky to trade her handmade scarves for Christmas gifts for her family. Harry and Sally story is touching.
Kayleigh has a goose and her family wants to eat it for Christmas. K. C. is tracking a criminal she is pulled in to a runaway child trying to save her goose. K.C goes after the child, her goose what she finds might cook every ones goose. A very touching read.
Pepe loves Lucia and has for some time he just doesn’t have the mean to take care of a wife. With help he earns a living and goes after the women of his dreams.
This is just a wonderful collection of stories that will touch your heart. I hope you enjoy this audio as much as I did. Come get a taste of what is yet to come in this outstanding series. You won’t be sorry.
As always, Debra Holland has done a fantastic job! These were eight different short stories that centered on characters some that we have met in the Mail Order Brides series. This really makes the stories fun for me because I enjoy meeting old friends in new stories.
I love the Montana Mail Order Brides series and this story really is a part of this series.
I would recommend these stories to everyone. These are perfect to listen to while working in the kitchen getting the meal parts ( dressing, pies, homemade rolls, etc.) prepared as each chapter is a separate story.
I loved this book!!!
I really liked that this book was a series of short stories about people we've met in Sweetwater. Now we know a bit more about them and have learned some beautiful holiday stories.
It was easy to split this book up into a couple of different days and trips because it's a series of short joyous stories. It's only in the end that you find out the connections even though we really know these residents already.
I liked listening to Pepe's story. He is a very minor character in the other books, but he is also a generous and giving soul. It was nice to hear him get his happy ending.
I actually liked breaking this book into multiple days. It is a series of short stories so you could finish one in a short session and not get lost or have to remember what was happening when you last left off.
Montana Sky Christmas
A series of short, touching stories from around the town of Stillwater Springs. It Includes the story of how the town hired the female sheriff. I'd wondered about this having previously skipped the novellas for the main books.
The first Christmas story is a short romance of Louisa Cannon and Red Macalister. She teaches knitting to earn money. Red only wants a new pair of stockings but decides to learn to knit so he can spend time with Louisa.
The second story with Abe's memories of his lost children and wife had me crying. In public on a CTA bus. This holiday short is about family and Abe and his daughter talk about their losses, grief, and love. Very lovely.
Sally O'Donell is 19 and has traveled into Montana Sky to trade her handmade scarves for Christmas gifts for her brother, sisters and parents. Harry O'Hanlon is at the general store when Sally arrives and is smitten. This story shows that generosity has its own rewards.
Kayleigh Gentry's family are hard-hearted ogres! They want to eat her goose, Prince for Christmas dinner!
K. C. Granger is tracking a criminal. When she gets to the Gentry farm she hears of a runaway child that didn't want her goose cooked for Christmas dinner. K.C. hopes the child doesn't cross paths with the criminal but of course, it's inevitable.
Pepe Sanchez has loved Lucia Perez for a time but he doesn't have the means to support a wife. With the unasked for help of family and friends, he is soon earning money from his carvings and decides he will ask Lucia to marry him.
The final story has Elizabeth Sanders putting on a children's pageant on Christmas Eve for the town.
It's a beautiful collection of short stories that are heartwarming and full of joy.
Sweet, uplifting stories
Debra Holland has done it again! I absolutely loved this series of short stories that can be listened to (or read) alone or as part of her series. I love how the stories all address different things such as the loss of a love one, young love, and the loneliness of being in a new place and how each character overcomes and finds love, happiness, or just the joy of helping others. I love how the stories entwine and flow from one to the next. In every story Debra touches your heart in a different way and just makes you glad you chose to listen (read) her stories.
I loved the short stories about the town. The stories give you some background about some characters. This is a great addition to Debra's other books about Sweetwater Springs.
