Terrific story, perfect narration.

I loved the story of two people, both slightly dif6from others due to their intelligence, coming together to solve a mystery. Their attraction to each other sizzles, and their verbal banter left me laughing.
The narrator's interpretation was vastly entertaining.

Good read

This was a good story, I like the characters as well as the storyline. Amanda is one of my favorite authors, I have yet to read one of her books and not like it. The narrator however is another case, I have listened to Barbara read other books and have managed through them. For some reason she always sounds like she is sucking on something be it candy or whatever. In this book, she did not but her voice for Masters (the Earl), I couldn't figure it out. He sounded like someone who spent time in the caribbean or abroad and not british like he should have been considering they were in England. I don't get it?! Was it just me?? Overall, a good book and story.

Just an ok read

Not one of my favorite Amanda Quick novels. I find both lead characters difficult to relate to. I definitely think their romance and relationship is meant to be--they are indeed made for each other. However, their romance does not pull at my heartstrings as much as some of her other novels. I also wanted Iphiginia to not be so resistant to marrying Marcus. I did not like the mistress aspect to the story, and I wanted it to come out that she was indeed a virgen. Not sure why it bothered me this much with the reading as it never bothered me in the past.

The reader was ok, but a lot of the voices started to sound the same toward the end. There were a lot of characters in this book, so it must have been difficult for Rosenblat to find unique tones for them all.

The fiction I need to get me through COVID

Not fluffy- just light and enjoyable. Amanda Quick delivers formulaic, but entertaining stories populated with likeable characters.

Good time out with Historical Romantic Suspense

A classic Amanda Quick execution of a Historical Romantic Suspense. Enjoyable, but not necessarily her best effort.
Iphiginia has thrown off the shackles if small town restrictions and chosen to pose as The Earl of Master’s mistress to hunt for her Aunt Zoe’s blackmailer.
Masters has come to town to find out who is posing as his mistress and helps a friend by searching for their blackmailer.
Rosenblat does a mostly very good job of narration.

Ever reliable, Amanda Quick

I really like her stories. She has the knack of writing strong female characters without making them anachronistic. This is one I've listened to more than once. I don't love the narrator, but she does a fine job.

Steady Amanda Quick, Never goes wrong

I love the charming historical novels of Amanda Quick. Her female leads are always strong and self sufficient yet not afraid to get a little cuddly with a man. They are intelligent and it's fun to how they go about solving a problem. I first listened to her "Paid Companion" and haven't been disappointed yet. Talent like Amanda Quick's is a rare find!

Loved it

This one was absolutely terrific. I was completely engaged from the beginning. It was a smart, fun had a heroine who was charming and innocent at the same time. I don’t know how Quick managed it. I thought the hero was great — little rough but still had plenty of charm. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was tremendous and the side characters were fairly cute although not quite as well developed. The story took enough turns and twists and was very fun so it kept my interest all the way through. I would highly recommend it. I spent a credit and I’m perfectly happy to have done so. I’m going to look for another Amanda Quick right now. One or two of her others and I like them a lot but I think I like this one the best.

Fun, original, clever story and characters!

Ms. Quick succeeded again in creating a delightful, interesting mystery and romance. This is my favorite book by AQ and I have read and listened to it quite a few times over the years. It is lots of fun to imagine the character's facial expressions in the comical scenes. Thank you Amanda for lots of smiles and lifted spirits!
