Wealthy beyond most men's dreams, Cam has tired of society's petty restrictions and longs to return to his "uncivilized" Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship - but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter....

"The author's sensitivity to the prejudice endured by the Roma (Gypsies) adds a measure of grim reality that is creatively offset by Rohan's discussion of Roma beliefs and superstitions. Kleypas's effortless style makes for another sexy exploration of 19th-century passion and peccadilloes, riveting from start to finish." (Publishers Weekly)
I really enjoyed the story and characters in this first installment of the Hathaway series. I really love historical romance novels, and Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorites. Rosalyn Landor did an excellent job of narrating. This one is a keeper for sure.
I really enjoyed this book. It features love in all it's forms: new romantic love, old romantic love, lost love, sibling love/rivalry. The relationship between Amelia & Cam is charged from the very beginning. He needs something different from the over-experienced courtesans he usually spends time with, and even though she won't admit it to herself or anyone else, Amelia needs someone to help her herd the unruly siblings she's essentially been left in charge of. Its very easy to sympathize with all of these characters...even Amelia, who's stubbornness you would expect to find annoying, but actually seems understandable.
Rosalyn Landor is an excellent reader. She does a great job giving each character her/his own voice and in her narrator's voice.
Everyone loves a gypsy dark lover don't they? Matched with a sensible girl pure fantasy stuff.
GREAT LOVE STORY
Amelia, because putting family first ahead of her own happiness, not many would do that
I loved all her voices, they were very compelling and it made the story more compelling and wanted to hear more
There wasn't one specific one, there were so many moving points throughout the book that it would be hard to choose just one
Loved this book and will listen to others in the series, hope they will be just as enjoyable
I try not to compare books in contents but if you pick any of the books read by Rosalyn Landon you can't go wrong
Cam Rohan. I fell in love with this character during the reading of the Wallflower series.
I read the some of previous comments on this book which really weren't good, but I still got it and I was not disappointed with it. If you hear or read the whole series it makes more sense than if you just get one of the books. I love the way Rosalyn Landon gives every character a unique personality and some how she carries it through the entire series. I would recommend this book to my friends because it's funny and also romantic without being sappy. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite romance writers.
Yes, because it is romantic, the heroine is strong yet believable for the time period, and the representations of gypsy traditions are respectful and not overdone.
It's a toss-up between the steamy scenes and the interjections of historical facts, but it's actually just the really well-written "encounters".
they were all very well done, with fantastic, distinct changes of accent and voice for the different characters.
No, but I really liked it and will listen to it again some time.
Yes, but I would read the Wallflower series first so get the background. It leads right on to this series.
There are so many memorable moment that I can't say one. Cam is so light harden and is very patient to win Amelia's love.
The different personalities of the characters.
I think it is a very good love story. It is a story that can make you laugh and cry. It also has a lesson about letting go.
This is just a good, classic, satisfying romance. I loved the dark, mysterious leading man and the spunky, strong willed, funny leading lady. I wanted to slap her brother but besides him all of the characters were extremely likable and I definitely want to see what happens with the rest of the Hathaways.
I was glad that Cam got his own story and I enjoy the tie in to the Wallflowers characters. It is like a circle of friends that keeps expanding. I can only hope the next books in the series will be as good!
