Publisher's summary

On a quest to avenge her sister's death, Eleanor Watkins never expected to fall for the man following her through pleasure gardens and into ballrooms. But soon nothing can keep her from the arms of the sinfully attractive scoundrel, not even the dangerous secrets she keeps. Strong, compassionate, and utterly irresistible, James is all she desires. But can she trust him enough to let herself succumb to all the pleasures that midnight allows?

James Swindler has worked hard to atone for his unsavory past. He is now as at home in London's glittering salons as he is in the roughest streets. But when the inspector is tasked with keeping watch on a mysterious lady suspected of nefarious deeds, he is determined to use his skills at seduction to lure Eleanor into revealing her plans. Instead, he is the one seduced, turning away from everything he holds dear in order to protect her - no matter the cost to his heart.

Great finish to the series.

This final book was more of a mystery than a romance but still a great finish to the series. This book combines mystery and suspense with twists & turns that kept me guessing. If you are new to this series I would recommend reading this series in order. The characters get more developed and storylines become more clear with each book. Great series!

The Best of the Scoundrel's books

I loved this series, but this book was my absolute favorite. After listening to the first three, I grew to appreciate James Swindler, but not as much as I did in this book. It captured my attention in the beginning, but commanded my attention from about 2 1/2 hours in until the very end. It brought tears to my eyes on several occasions and it made me laugh and scowl. I don't remember another love story bringing me this much emotion in a long time. This is a series that I will listen to again and again!

Good but not as great as the others

I just couldn't get excited about this last book in the series. The main character was such a weak man in all the other stories especially having to do with Frannie I just couldn't get excited about him. The book got better about 4 hours in when there was really a twist and at the end it was great but it took too long to get to the good parts and I think Ms. Health should have done a better job of making us more interested in the main character in the earlier stories so it didn't take me 3 weeks rather than my usual 5 days to plow through the story.

I loved the series - really great but Ms. Health repeats herself way too often throughout her series almost as if she expects you to listen to or read one and not the rest of them. She needs to learn to write more succinctly and stick with character development and the story lines and elminate the unnecessary repetition which would make her stories even better and the first three in this series had a lot of repetition but the stories I thought were better.

A good mistery with a bit of romance

A very good mistery that outsmarts the listener. The romance story was not that good. No fireworks, no butterflies but still interesting. Very good narration.

Book 4 Is the Best

Would you consider the audio edition of Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel to be better than the print version?

I read the book on my Kindle and listened to the audible version in the car. I always prefer reading to listening as it goes faster, but this was a good listen as well.

What did you like best about this story?

Although I liked all 4 of the Scoundrels of St. James books, this one had a twist that I never saw coming. Good story. Well told. The narrator is good, if a bit slow-paced and maudlin at times.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the Scoundrels of St. James books. All four were good performances, though I admit I liked Antony Ferguson's voice better. Susan Ericksen did a good job of differentiating character voices. I really appreciate that.

the best of the four

If you could sum up Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel in three words, what would they be?

a total surprise

What did you like best about this story?

I laughed, I cried, I gasped and I clapped out loud at the twist and turns in this book.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can think of none that saying would not lessen the pleasure for future readers.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

First I thought it would be average at best. What a surprise. I wanted to rate this one highest of the four. So I wil. This one rates 6 stars.

Any additional comments?

Please, please let there be a book 5! Dr. Graves needs his turn.

Great ending to a good series

This was a great ending to a wonderful series. This last book was about the Scotland yard inspector who we found out in the last book was in love with Frannie Darling. This is the story about him finding his love. This was a great mystery also.
