On a quest to avenge her sister's death, Eleanor Watkins never expected to fall for the man following her through pleasure gardens and into ballrooms. But soon nothing can keep her from the arms of the sinfully attractive scoundrel, not even the dangerous secrets she keeps. Strong, compassionate, and utterly irresistible, James is all she desires. But can she trust him enough to let herself succumb to all the pleasures that midnight allows?
James Swindler has worked hard to atone for his unsavory past. He is now as at home in London's glittering salons as he is in the roughest streets. But when the inspector is tasked with keeping watch on a mysterious lady suspected of nefarious deeds, he is determined to use his skills at seduction to lure Eleanor into revealing her plans. Instead, he is the one seduced, turning away from everything he holds dear in order to protect her - no matter the cost to his heart.

While I only gave this story 4 stars instead of the 5 that I gave the rest of the series, it was still very good. It is the story of James Swindler, former street urchin and current inspector at Scotland Yard, and Eleanor/Emma Watkins. They meet when Miss Watkins comes to London to avenge the death of her sister Elizabeth, who was "ruined" the year before by the scoundrel, Lord Rockberry. She begins following the Lord, who promptly goes to Scotland Yard and claims that she aims to murder him. Swindler is assigned to follow her, making sure that she poses no threat, and their relationship develops.
The relationship between the two is sweet and ingrossing. The romance is hot, but again, not vulgar, and the love seems real. However, there is a lot of extra plot that seems to be a bit much: murder, poisonings, misidentifying of the sisters, etc. Still, I loved this series and am sad to see it end. Overall, a very good listen.
I am enjoying this series. They are light reads but not lacking in quality. The author has done a great job and the reader is so good. If your looking for a light read but nothing too intense these are great. They have all the care and development but remain fairly light and totally enjoyable.
Didn't think I'd have enjoyed this book as much as I did, nor the series for that matter. The reader kept me totally interested, and Antony Ferguson was excellent!
One of the best books I've read. Interesting twist to the story. Unexpected!
The surprising twist to the story. I don't want to spoil the story by providing specific information. The twist redirected the storyline and added good drama.
Nothing. Narrator was excellent.
four to five stars
Quality of voices, acting, and the diversity of not just one person
Yes, the difficulties these kids went through to survive
This is the second book in the series that I've read. Although I'm sure it makes more sense, it isn't completely necessary to read this series in order. I've enjoyed both of the novels by Health so far. Both have nice plots for light-hearted romance novels and fun characters. I would recommend the series if you are looking for something fun with a happy ending.
First of all, this is a great series. You absolutely have to start with book one, and work your way up to this one. I'm sure that either way you'd find this an enjoyable listen, but the characters and story line will have so much more meaning to you if you listen to the whole series. That being said, Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel was not only a great ending to the series. It may be the best book in the series. There is a BIG twist in the plot. You think you know what it is. You think you've finally gotten to the big twist, only to find out there's an even bigger one. That was the most enjoyable thing about this novel. It's difficult to find romance novels that actually manage to surprise you, but this one does. You're going to love it!
I loved this Scoundrels series, but this was my least favorite book in the series. It was harder to get into the characters - it took too long for the story to "ramp-up." I was really looking forward to James' story, but I could not get excited about the romance between James and Emma. Even thought their romance was average, the the story itself was very well written, and it had some great twists that the reader would never figure out, so in that respect, it was an interesting read/listen. If you have not read the other books in the series, I would say pass on this one. If you have read the other books, this one is interesting but not very romantic.
I couldn't make past the first hour.
Not this author.
The bad review may just be because this isn't what I was expecting. I didn't get past the first hour. It was a huge waste of money.
