Melt

When photo-journalist Kelly Sheffield is offered the chance to travel to Greenland for coverage of American science teams, she grabs it. Not only is it a dream assignment, it also means she'll have a chance to reconnect with the compelling Jordan Westgate, the glaciologist studying the melting ice cap. Jordan hasn't forgotten Kelly, nor has she forgotten that she'd found it hard, all those years ago, to firmly reject the inappropriate overtures from a student.

Publisher's Summary

When photojournalist Kelly Sheffield is offered the chance to travel to Greenland for coverage of American science teams, she grabs it.

This Kelly, self-assured, successful, and even more attractive, is a threat to Jordan's equilibrium, something she simply can't allow.

Kelly finds the frozen landscape a match for Jordan's chilly attitude. But Greenland is a surprising land of beauty and danger where even the iciest heart can melt.

    Story
"Fascinating fictional look at a contemporary topic"

A unique fictional view of global climate change. The setting is Greenland, which in and of itself is unique. There is information on Greenland's melting glaciers and a good back story pertaining to Greenland's history. It rescues a rather tepid and typical lesbian romance novel that bogs down too often in cliches. That was the reason I couldn't give this work five stars. I found both the setting as well as the subject manner intriguing. Jordan's history gives some explanation of her unwillingness to pursue the relationship. A good listen.

    Story
    "Well thought-out and interlaced"

A pleasant and captivating story. I was not sure about this audio book when I first saw the title and publisher summary, wondering how a a novel set in Greenland and ice would be interesting. I was glad I purchased the audio book and listened. The narrator Cassadra Lukas was very good bring the different characters in the novel to life, and adding effective emotional tone to the the narrative. The story itself provides three overlapping threads to engage the reader, one on the descriptions of Greenland and the people that life there. The second the history and genetic links to the past, with a story of survival from the 1400s. Finally the romantic connection between photographer Kelly Sheffield and glaciologist Jordan Westgate. The romance side of the story is slow burning and does not dominate the novel, but it is shared with the other threads. There are a number of well thought out interlacing between past and present, and intelligent observations about fear, love, and passion. I recommend the novel.
