Issy Randall can bake. No, Issy can create stunning, mouthwateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe's bakery, she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. She's much better at baking than she is at filing, so when she's laid off from her desk job, Issy decides to open her own little café. But she soon learns that her piece-of-cake plan will take all of her courage and confectionary talent to avert disaster.
Funny and sharp, Meet Me at the Cupcake Café is about how life might not always taste like you expect, but there's always room for dessert!

"A funny novel about friendship, food and love. . . . [Listeners] with an interest in baking will love this book." (Kirkus)
Hi all. I'm in my 50's (that's relevant, i think), and I favor fiction. I like the british sensibility, and was introduced to the Forsyte Saga through audible ... loved it! I happen to also like Chinese writers, but they are not well represented yet at audible. Looking to follow readers with similar tastes ...
Sometimes you just want to listen to something young and fun, that isn't annoyingly written. This is that kind of book. i'd give it 3-4 stars.
Such a sweet story and lovable characters. I plan to read/listen to the next book in the series. I may even try one of the cake recipes.
The honesty of the main character's strengths and weaknesses
The moments with the grandfather sharing his recipes and love
Very dynamic performance. Understood the material and made the right choices for emphasis.
Following your heart can lead you to your dreams.
I was looking for something easy, sweet and enjoyable! This did not disappoint! If you are expecting a literary masterpiece, don't. But if you want to listen to a wonderful narrator, tell a lighthearted story, this is for you! The writing was spot on and the narrator made it come alive. This listen will be a hard one to beat.
I am a librarian working as a state worker by day and a FB stalker at night. I like thrillers, YA and, and just about anything in between.
I might listen to Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe again if I was in the mood for a fun, happy, sweet story. Why? With all the mysteries and thrillers I read, which are typically graphic and grisly, this was a nice, bubbly surprise!
I loved Issy getting to know her Cafe and prepare it for the opening. It made me excited and dream of my own cupcake cafe that I have always wanted to own.
No, I have not listened to Michelle Ford's other performances before, but I would love to listen to more of her. She did a wonderful job, and did excellent with the various characters.
Bridget Jones Meets Cupcakes!
Anglophile. Prefer only British fiction and mysteries. Good translations of Italian, too.
I cannot read print because I am legally blind, so cannot answer this.`
I liked the scene in the bank when she applies for a bank loan. There were many.
I found her to be a very good reader. She helped bring the story out in a lively, but not overly acted.
I loved the solid characterizations, humor and the recipes. This is a very good book to give to someone who is having some personal or physical problems. It is humorous and life-affirming. A joy to read.
It was a predictable book with some good moments. But the child characters yanked me out of the story every time... especially Darney who was supposed to be 10, but seemed more like a four-year-old. Louis's dialog was also not good.
Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
I know this book was a finalist in the recent ChitLit awards and yes it was enjoyable but there was that extra something missing. I wasn't hanging out to find out what happens next .. I was quite happy to keep listening and plodding on with the story and just waiting for the end.
Not saying it wasn't enjoyable. You'll get cake recipes and cooking tips and the story itself was OK but just average. Girl loses job, spends her redundancy on opening up a cake store, makes new friends, learns from her old grandpa, meets a guy etc
Nice story .. I actually listened to most of it whilst cooking but at times, had to make myself focus on the story
