Publisher's summary

Andie Miller is ready to move on with her life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her. A distant cousin has died and left North the guardian of two orphans who have driven away three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs someone to take care of the situation, and he knows Andie can handle anything....

When Andie meets the two children, she realizes the situation is much worse than she feared. Carter and Alice aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. Complicating matters is Andie’s fiancé’s suspicion that this is all a plan by North to get Andie back. He may be right, because Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting....

Then her ex-brother-in-law arrives with a duplicitous journalist and a self-doubting parapsychologist, closely followed by an annoyed medium, Andie’s tarot card–reading mother, her avenging ex-mother-in-law, and her jealous fiancé. Just when Andie’s sure things couldn’t get more complicated, North arrives to make her wonder if maybe this time things could just turn out differently....

Enjoyed my first time with Jennifer Crusie

This is the first Jennifer Crusie book that I've listened to and thought it was a great read. The characters are quirky and interesting, and even though "Maybe This Time" is essentially a ghost story, Ms. Crusie crafted it so well, that it was easy to suspend belief and just go with the flow. The romance is not overbearing and I liked the fact that it wasn't the only main point to the book. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Enjoyed!

Kind of crazy with all the paranormal characters but funny and sweet too. Narrator was excellent. Sometimes when kids are in the story the narrator has a difficult time with the kid voices and adult voices but Angela Dawe does a great job. For me, Jennifer Crusie has some good stories and some not so good. This is one of her better books.

Much fun!

relationships, ghosts, ohio, mystery, humor, children

I love almost everything written by Jennifer Crusie, and this one is a little crazier than most. It has romance, nasty ghosts, frightened kids, a nutsy mother in law and an even nuttier mother, a convenient but clueless fiancé, and two people who still love each other and are learning to communicate. And LOTS of humor! And almost all of this madness happens in a very weird house that was brought over from England and reassembled in rural southern Ohio. No spoilers here, just go ahead and enjoy!
The audiobook is very well narrated by Angela Dawe.

Exciting to hear again and again

I love Jennifer Crusie! Maybe this time is a romantic story tinged with deadly supernatural occurrences and ghosts. The main character, Andie puts off her wedding to her new boyfriend to care for the children left in her ex husbands care. They live in a castle in Ohio, there is a cantankerous old housekeeper and a couple of ghosts. Ok three ghosts who have their own agenda. Can Andie and North overcome the ghosts and reunite?

Wonderful light fun story worth listening to again and again. Love it!

Amanda Dave captures each character and brings them to life.

Hilarious Ghost Story

Where does Maybe This Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved North Archer for his generosity and felt deeply sympathetic toward him for his "stuckness" in his own life and what it had cost him. But Alice is also terrific in the way she stubbornly resists Andie, only to eventually succumb.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

Her characterization of the different personalities made each clearly distinguishable - and brought out the humor of their individual quirks, in an affectionate way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved when North finally showed up and he and Andie began really working together to solve the problem.

Any additional comments?

The combination of a desire to write about Alice as an adult and the difficulties of developing a Gothic atmosphere in an age of ubiquitous cell phones caused Jennifer Crusie to set this in the early 1990s - which totally worked for me, as that was when I was a similar age to her protagonists.

Thoroughly Entertaining

This was my first Jennifer Crusie book ever and won???t be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed the book; we have a little mystery, a few ghost, a little romance, and lots of quirky characters. Angela Dawe as the narrator was excellent. I am quite happy with this selection.
