But these things find her when she accepts a last-minute assignment to fly to London at Christmas and photograph one of the world's most celebrated writers - an Irish-American author known for novels of thrilling literary darkness.
To Hope's surprise, Finn O'Neill exudes warmth and a boyish charm. Enormously successful, he is a perfect counterpoint to Hope's quiet, steady grace - and he's taken instantly by her. He courts her as no one ever has before, whisking her away to his palatial, isolated Irish estate.
Hope finds it all, and him, irresistible. But soon cracks begin to appear in his stories: gaps in his history, lies and bouts of jealousy unnerve her. Suddenly Hope is both in love and suspicious, caring and deeply in doubt, and ultimately frightened of the man she loves.
Alone, thousands of miles from home, her mind is reeling. Is it possible that this adoring, attentive man - like the characters in his novels - is hiding something even worse? The spell cast by a brilliant sociopath has her trapped in his web, too confused and dazzled to escape, as he continues to tighten his grip on her.

The book could be cut by at least 1/4 if Danielle Steele would quit repeating herself and stating the obvious. It did not change the story line to tell me 4 times that authors don't pay income tax in Ireland. Her writing was good enough that I understood the emotion or implication but the next sentence spelled it out as if I have no understanding of English. I don't remember her writing being so redundant but I will remember now to steer clear of Danielle Steele.
This was the worst audio book I have ever listened too. The last Danielle Steele book I read was over 20 years ago and now I remember why.
Anyone, he was laughable. He reminded me of Peterman on Seinfeld. I still don't understand why a man was telling this woman's story.
I would cut out every other line of the book, it would not have made a difference because it was so repetitive
I own a small shop selling custom/costume Jewelry. I love to listen to audio books while I create jewelry. I love all animals and get very upset when they aren't treated well, even in fiction.
This book actually had some depth which is a little unusual for this author I really enjoyed it. I felt like I learned something reading. It is one that I would listen to again and again. I felt like it was much better than I was expecting. I was expecting a readable but very shallow book and I actually got something that was very readable but with some depth and I would very highly recommend this one.
The main character's first photo session.
I didn't feel that this book should've been read by man. It's a woman story. I would love to have heard it read by one of the good women narrators, like CJ Critt or Barbara Rosenblatt -but not a man. It is a woman's story and it should be read by woman. I don't think that the narration did anything for the story. He'd be fine reading a John Grisham or something that is about a man, he's fine narrator.
I was moved when the character continued to go back even when things weren't the way they should be. That was a very real emotion and it was very moving.
Reading about a sociopath was very interesting I think that we meet them every day and reading this book could help us to recognize certain behaviors. I found that some of the behavior was a bit like is used by cult leaders. I believe, I've heard it called love bombing.
I loved the character Hope in this book. This book is so realistic because it shows how even a smart, independent woman like her can be fooled by a smooth talking sociopath! Danielle Steel is so current and up with today's times because there are men and women out there today that are extremely smart and cunning and dangerous and she shows us that we shouldn't be afraid to love but also keep our eyes open and aware and "watch our back" so to speak! Loved it and think it's a must read for anyone whether you are just entering the dating scene or back into it! She gives us brilliantly smart insight through these realistically believable characters. Danielle Steel has either done remarkable research or has known someone who has gone through something like this. Great work Ms. Steel and keep the work coming! You're one of my favorite authors!!
As Ms. Steel continues to pump out her novels, the quality has steadily declined. I have found her last several books to be shallow and predictable, with very sloppy endings. I find this heroine to be weak and could we say slightly stupid. No one is that naive, certainly not a woman in her 40's. I wish Ms. Steel could go back and write the way she did 20 years ago. Those early novels were spellbinding. It's a shame they are not available on Audible.
I LOVE to listen to audiobooks - the Audible ap is by far the best thing that's ever happend to my iPhone.
I apologize for being so blunt. The narrator is fine - however, he is completely wrong for this book. His voice is dull and boring - and the book isn't that electrifying to compensate. I would only recommend this book if you want to hear about a woman being taken advantage of over and over and over by a boring narrator.
I liked it. Not predictable.
The turning point near the end was most satifying- don't want to give it away.
Kept my interest.
I just found the repetition of facts and thoughts annoying and almost amateur. Surprising for someone I thought better of.
Sounded like a computerized voice.
Excellent story with some very interesting insight into the mind of a sociopath. Narrator was very good as well.
Say something about yourself!
Danielle Steel's 100th book and she actually got a publisher to publish? First, even bad stories can be made better with a decent narrator - he was not even passing. The story was so predictable, which I have heard about other books before but still enjoyed, but with characters that were smart (Hope is not) and engaging (Finn is not). This is a story of a successful woman who chose to be with an abuser because she was in lust with him. I'm only half way through and the only thing that keeps me listening is to hear how she kicks his a**!! This wasn't about abuse eased into, she fell into this in less than three months! As all of Ms. Steel's femail characters, a strong, intellegent, .... at yet still so very vulerable? Sad part, she didn't even kick his a**.
Seriously Danielle - Really? No more. You really must take more time to write a decent book or just give it up. I wish there was a way to give no stars for the story and still leave a review. This was a BOGO sale and I can see why... This was not even worth 1/2 a credit.
"Very disappointing read"
I was looking for a nice, relaxing listen, but found this book very repetitive, boring and a complete waste of time and money. I would not recommend this book, and if possible would rate it zero stars.
