Publisher's Summary

Rachel Carson spent much of her life being treated as a second class citizen. When her well-to-do uncle died and left her penniless, she had no choice but to find a mail-order husband. She could only hope and pray he would be a kind and gentle man that she could spend her life getting to know and love.

Tom Kinney had a bit of a bad rap around town, but that wasn't about to stop his entrepreneurial spirit. Tom decided he would work hard promoting his new hardware store and find a wife to help settle his reputation down.

When Rachel arrived in Durango, Tom could not help but wonder why she chose to be a mail-order bride. Was she running from something, or did she just need a home?

Will Tom and Rachel find love and friendship when they least expect it?

    Story
"The Train Stalled Before Leaving The Station"

After her uncle died, leaving her with no inheritance, Rachel saw the only option a woman in her position could find – a mail order bride.

Tom needed a wife, but women in the West are hard-to-find, so he placed an ad looking for one.

Can each fulfill the needs of the other?

This book was one that I could not wait to listen to. However, it felt like the story could never get going. I'm not sure if it were due to the writing style, as many authors fit enjoyable stories within the time limitation.

This was an above-average book with great narration by Leonor A. Woodworth.

I hope to listen to another book written by Julie Pollitt as she has many in this genre and length.

    "Short and sweet love story"

After everything this poor girl had to deal with Rachel thought an end in sight to find the rug once again pulled from under her. No home, no money she accepts a mail order bride ad and takes her chances to find love or something compatible. Will she find it in Tom?

    "A Good Quick Read"

Rachel loses her parents at an early age and must live with an uncle who steals the money left by her parents and she is forced to live as a servant in his household. When he dies who does he leave the money to? You will never believe it.
She travels as a mail order bride and meets the man she is to marry. He needs her to help him become a more successful business man. They discover that they both have similar needs. How does the story end? A good quick read that will leave you smiling. It is filled with events that will have you rooting for both of them. The narraators voice adds to the story. Worth buying since it is much less than a credit. Save your credits but buy the book.

    Story
    "Pleasure to listen to!"
If you could sum up Mail-Order Brides: A Durango Romance in three words, what would they be?

    Clean living prevails.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rachel was my favorite character. With what she went through after her parents died, she was still able to take control of her own life.

Have you listened to any of Leonor A. Woodworth’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'll have to look up some more of Leonor Woodworths other readings. She was good in distinguishing the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to listen to this all in one sitting, but only listened to it at night and kept falling asleep. Nothing to do with the story, just exhaustion.

    "A nice, clean story"

I love this sweet short story that shows the good in people. The characters are real and believable and they also believe in God, but they aren't "preachy". The narrator did a great job bringing these characters to life.

The narration was well done. The characters were excellently portrayed.

    Story
"A Durango Romance Was a Great Listen"

I love the Mail Order Brides Series. A DURANGO ROMANCE was a wonderful listen. The story was great. I love the good values throughout the book. Rachel and Tom were awesome. Rachel's uncle, not so much. He spent her money left to her by her parents then willed his own money to his maid/mistress leaving Rachel penniless. He was a shrew of a man.

Enter Tom, the man she hopes to marry but she's slightly apprehensive due to what she heard happened to another woman while traveling as well as rumors of Tom being a bit on the wild side. My favorite part was when Tom took Rachel on a sleigh ride to show her the foundation of the home they would live in. This was a delightful book written by JULIE POLLITT.

The narration by LEONOR A. WOODWORTH was outstanding. She was the perfect voice for this tale. She had spot on voice inflections and really added charm to the story. I absolutely loved it.
