Lacey Reagan is an abused woman who escapes her violent father by answering a mail-order-bride advertisement. Joe Dwyer is the gallant playboy who rescues her. Their marriage is simply an arrangement - or is it? A romance begins, but tragedy strikes and they have to decide if it will stay just business or if they can find true happiness together.

I really like this series. I'm amazed that after 5 books, the author keeps coming up with new ideas for stories and unique characters. This book is a Western Romance, and it is pretty clean reading - sex is only alluded to, which I appreciate. I enjoy the strong female characters and how the different characters play off one another. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I really enjoyed his narration. I think his voice is perfectly suited to this series, and he gives a unique voice to each character. I really like that his female voices DON'T sound forced, campy, whiny, or super high-pitched, which is a big plus. That is always something I look for in a male narrator. I really can't think of a single bad aspect to Bennett's narration. I look forward to listening to anything he has narrated. Overall, if you enjoy romance or western novels I think you will love this book. I don't even consider myself a fan of romance novels, but I have really enjoyed every book in this series so far, and I think others will, too.

This story is the tale of Lacey and Joe which is book 5 in this series. Their sweet story is entertaining with some suspense and humor. A nice addition to the series.
Each story in this series has its own unique take on the mail order bride theme. This book can definitely stand alone but I would recommend you read the previous books first. Each story builds around previous characters which adds a familiar connection to each story. With the narration of J. Scott Bennett it's a winner all around.
Note: This is bascally a clean read. There is no detailed sex but there is some swearing.

Joe, the male lead, places an ad for a bride. Lacey, the female lead, responds trying to get away from her current situation.
Lacey brings out the best in Joe.
The couple has a few issues to work through, but regardless, they begin to care for each other.
Overall this story was a sweet and an entertaining.
J. Scott Bennett did well with the narration.

Another enjoyable and entertaining installment in the Montana Mail Order Bride series.
Even though this is a short book it doesn't feel like it. The story and the characters are fully developed. I like that even though the stories each focus on a couple all the characters from the previous stories are there and we see them throughout the rest of the series.
While each of the stories in the series start with the same premise, each is unique in it's own way. As with the previous stories Joe Dwyer places an ad in the paper for a mail order bride. Only Joe does it out of necessity as a business arrangement. Lacey Reagan is in an abusive situation. Looking for a way out she answers Joe's ad. What starts out as a business arrangement soon turns into more than either expected.
J Scott Bennett does the narration for the series. Once again he does a fantastic job. Nice pleasant voice with just a little hint of a western cadence. Smooth even pace. Great character voices. Very enjoyable and easy voice to listen to.

I feel very fortunate to have found this wonderful series. All the books so far have been quick, entertaining reads. Westward Fortune is not an exception. Lacey needed an escape from her abusive father, and playboy, Joe Dwyer filled that need. Joe has this image in town as a carefree, womanizer. I think Lacey was exactly what Joe needed. I love that we got to catch up with the characters from the previous books. I can't wait to read more of the other books in the series.
J. Scott Bennett is a natural storyteller. I can't say one bad thing about his performance. I really would like to listen to him more often.

Here we have a story about a womanizing rancher who fell in love with an abused woman and she with him. It tells of all the ups and downs in their relationship and how they eventually realize that they care deeply for each other.
He originally wants a wife so that he can inherit a fortune but he soon becomes very caring towards his new wife even though he slips up now and then in his judgement of various situations.
She just wants to escape from an abusive father but finds more good in her relationship with her new husband and in her new life than she could ever dream of.
The book is really well written with the words flowing naturally and easily off the pages. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by the very talented J. Scott Bennett and the result was most entertaining and enjoyable.

Book 5 in the series. Joe places an ad for a bride. Lacey responded, saying she needed to get away from her abusive father, When she arrives they settle on a marriage of convince or did they? Twists, turns and lots of drama before the final outcome, A quick listen with familiar characters.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. I always enjoy J. Scott Bennett's voicing these stories.
Yes, it was that good. It is easy listening.

Mail Order Bride - Westward Fortune: Montana Mail Order Brides, Book 5
(THAT is a LONG title!)
🐎 Two people with needs that can be met only by a mail order bride marriage test the odds in this wonderful, innocent, western, historical romance.
🐎 Linda Bridey continues this sentimental and sweet series with Lacey Reagan and Joe Dwyer. Lacey has been abused by her father and her only way out is to become a mail-order bride. Joe Dwyer answers that advertisement and saves the day as they agree to a marriage in name only with the possibility of becoming business partners in horse breeding in trading.
🐎 Will this "on paper only" marriage become passionate, catch fire and burn or will the flame fizzle out?
🐎 There is enough adventure to keep this listener interested for over six hours.
🐎 The performance of Scott Bennett continues to carry us through this series with his unwavering talent. His performance is believable and his character assessment is almost perfect. Great job!
🐎 There is no need to warn off listeners as the content is "innocent" and without violence/strong language. The intimacy in all of these couples are written beautifully and with sweet passion.

"Enjoyable historical cowboy romance"
I have really enjoyed this series, particularly visiting with characters from earlier books as the series progress. Their families grow and relationships develop, their lives thicken with flavours only possible with time and experience. With each additional book in the series, they feel more like old friends living next door (except for the historic setting, of course).
That said, I really enjoyed Joe and Lacy's story. This story has growing romance fraught with potentially insurmountable challenges. Both Joe and Lacy are very gracefully presented, full of character and humour. For anyone who enjoys historical cowboy romances, this book, and in fact this whole series, is for you.
