Despite the turmoil, she's eager to start her magic training, especially as she's been given one year to harness her power or be put to death. But her plans take a radical turn when she becomes involved with a plot to reclaim Ixia's throne for a lost prince, and gets entangled in powerful rivalries with her fellow magicians.
If that wasn't bad enough, it appears her brother would love to see her dead. Luckily, Yelena has some old friends to help her with all her new enemies.

"Family betrayal, a power-mad serial killer, and a potential diplomatic crisis threaten the independent-minded heroine of Snyder's fine sequel to Poison Study....Snyder's lively, charming mix of romance and fantasy is sure to gain her new fans." (Publishers Weekly)
I enjoyed this book more than the first (Poison Study). The author was a bit more deft in her characterization and it maintained interest to the end.
It appears there will more to the series.
Magic Study was quite good. We are only starting to understand the true depth of Yelana's power. Her powers are imaginative and delightful. The author is doing a bang up job with this series and I cannot wait until book 3.
I simply adored this book! Gabra Zackman did a wonderful job conveying each of the characters. An excellent follow up to Poison Study Snyder doesn't disappoint I can't wait for the next book!
Both Poison Study and Magic Study were imaginative and the voice was amazing. It definitely made a long commute worth it. I just hope there is a next one!!!
This is the second in what is a great fantasy series. Yelena is a great character. She has a lot of depth. This story follows Yelena to her family, who she was seperated from as a child. She always believed that she was an orphan, but found out in the first book of the series, Poison Study, that she was kidnapped. Yelena has a lot of trouble fitting in with her family and is a little relieved when it is time for her to leave them so that she can go study magic. Trouble brews at the magic school when magicians get kidnapped and killed. Yelena jumps in to investigate and gets herself in a lot of trouble on the way. The book has lots of action and I can't wait for the next one. A must read.
