Publisher's summary

Mary Elizabeth Potter is a self-appointed spinster with no illusions about love. But she is a good teacher, and she wants Wolf Mackenzie's son back in school. And after one heated confrontation with the boy's father, she knows father and son have changed her life forever.

Still paying for a crime he didn't commit, Wolf Mackenzie has a chip on his shoulder the size of Wyoming. But prim-and-proper Mary Elizabeth Potter doesn't see Wolf as the dangerous half-breed the town has branded him. Somehow she sees him as a good, decent, honest man. A man who could love....Wolf's not sure he, or the town of Ruth, Wyoming, is ready for the taming of Wolf Mackenzie.

Disappointed...

I love this book! was so excited when I found an audio version to listen to while driving for work. I was extremely disappointed with just how much had been cut from the book during this. Almost half the story just gone....now I'm unsure whether to listen to the other books....

Book was better!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book yes, the audio NO. It was a horrible abridgement. So much of the story was missing. I know they cut stuff out for abridgements but they could have done a better job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mackenzie's Mountain?

It's still in the book. In the audio, I would say when Wolf takes care of her.

How could the performance have been better?

She could have dropped the accent all together instead of having it at times and not at others. When Wolf was angry the voice she used took me completly out of the story it was so bad. I am really hoping she does not do any more in this series.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Please don't judge this book on this horrible abridgement. Buy the book, it is a great story when told from start to finish.

hummmmmmmm

I read this book a very long time ago. When I was looking for an "easy" listen and did not have much to spend, I decided on this book to revisit a book I really enjoyed. I did not realize this is an abridged version and I should have paid more attention because it made a huge difference. The full story has more depth and is just a much better product than this abridged audio. The story we find here is so rushed, you do not get invested in the characters at all and you loose some of the more interesting interactions which flesh out these characters. It is like the author had 20 minutes to write, the narrator had 30 minutes to read and we are left with this somewhat half finished, hollow feeling tale. If you were to listen to this, you would have no desire to continue what ended up being a 4 or 5 part series following the children of Hawk and Mary Elizabeth. A really great book with good characters reduced to what felt like 15 minutes of fluff.

The narrator did a pretty good job and I would listen to another book read by her.

Wish it wasn’t abridged

Too bad the tools who used to run publishing always abridged the audio copies of popular books. Considering this was originally published as a Harlequin, it wasn’t that long to begin with.
This was, and always has been, my favorite older Harlequin. It even became a mini series with books for each child, starting with Joe. Definitely recommend the books.

Disappointed

was disappointed with this story. Some of the story is not correct. I have read the book and was disappoint that the story line was twisted around. The narrator just couldn't pull off the guys voices well. She did great on Mary's part.

Abridged

Narrator was great. I love the book and wanted an audible version. Had I known it was abridged, I would not have bought it. That's the sole reason for the low rating given.

Wish it were unabridged

This is a great book and the abridged version is awful. Way too many important facts and dialogue edited out.

The first in the Mackenzie series

Overall, an ok read/listen. It seems a bit outdated just by the nature of the plot, the description of the heroine and the air of aloofness and implied savageness of the hero. After the first 20 minutes it becomes more tolerable and a more appealing book. The story sets the foundation for the remaining stories of the individual "mackenzie's" which get better and better.

half the story

I love Linda Howard books. I have read this book several time and will read it again. I did not like the reader at all, this audio book left out many parts of the story. I'm going to try and get a refund.

It was okay

I've heard this story before and owned it, but I had to buy it again. This time I was let down. A key part of the story that helped the main female character get past her almost rape was missing. I don't know if it has to do with audible or what.
