Publisher's Summary

Mary Elizabeth Potter is a self-appointed spinster with no illusions about love. But she is a good teacher, and she wants Wolf Mackenzie's son back in school. And after one heated confrontation with the boy's father, she knows father and son have changed her life forever.

Still paying for a crime he didn't commit, Wolf Mackenzie has a chip on his shoulder the size of Wyoming. But prim-and-proper Mary Elizabeth Potter doesn't see Wolf as the dangerous half-breed the town has branded him. Somehow she sees him as a good, decent, honest man. A man who could love....Wolf's not sure he, or the town of Ruth, Wyoming, is ready for the taming of Wolf Mackenzie.

"a great book, but terrible abridgement"

I read the print version of this book several years ago, loved it, and was looking forward to revisiting it in the audio version, but was very disappointed. The abridgement is one of the worst that I've encountered (major and significant events and characterization missing, story changed), and the narration for the main female character was particularly annoying (poor accent, odd pitch). I suggest enjoying a print copy of this book in order to get the background for the series (and it is a great story), and then listening to the rest of the series in audio.

    "FOLLW THE BOOK"

I enjoyed listening to this book having read the book several times I can say that it does not follow the story. There is at least one chapter missing the epiloge. Scenes in the book are not mentioned at all. Important facts gone. Everything goes along okay but some of the facts are totaly wrong.

    "good and bad"

I love the story. It's a typical romance that girls love. However, I think the unabridged version would have been much better, because feelings between the hero and heroine developed too quickly in the abridged version. I only give it 2 stars because of the narrator. It sounds as though she is yelling the story to you. She also does not always demonstrate the correct emotion of the characters, so it doesn't sound right. I really love the story, but the narrator ruined it for me.

    "Sentimental Favorite"

This is a sentimental favorite for Linda Howard fans. I'd love to see this rerecorded unabridged with someone who can sound more convincing as patriarch and original alpha male Wolf Mackenzie. Recording Howard's A GAME OF CHANCE would complete the series.

"The first in the Mackenzie series"

Overall, an ok read/listen. It seems a bit outdated just by the nature of the plot, the description of the heroine and the air of aloofness and implied savageness of the hero. After the first 20 minutes it becomes more tolerable and a more appealing book. The story sets the foundation for the remaining stories of the individual "mackenzie's" which get better and better.

    "An enjoyable read"

This is a very entertaining book. The main charactor, Mary is however slightly stupid, but still fun to listen to. The narator has a horrible voice so I only gave it 3 stars. Her voice can be hard to listen to as her version of a southern accent is horific at best. If you can concentrate on the words and not her voice you will enjoy the book.

    "Abridgement Ok for me."

There was a specific scene that I didn't like in the book, and with this abridgement it cut it out completely. It was a little stilted but what do you expect from such a short abridgement. If you go in it with out a lot of expectation you won't be disappointed.

    "Mackenzie"s Mountain"

I read the print vesion of this book and really loved it, and was looking forward to the audio versionl. The abridged version was a little disappointing. The narraton would have been better if it had been more the alpha male that would remind you of what wolf mackenzie would sound like. This is a great series so don't let this detour you from reading this series. I would also like to see the unabriged version of A Game Of Chance. Also a great book.

    "Abridged should be illegal"

Are we back to the days of Reader's Digest? Any book that is abridged (a thoroughly disgusting and unnecessary practice) should have large, red, flashing letters spelling out the wholly offensive word "abridged". Of course, no book should ever be a bridge in the first place!

    "Book was better!"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book yes, the audio NO. It was a horrible abridgement. So much of the story was missing. I know they cut stuff out for abridgements but they could have done a better job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mackenzie's Mountain?

It's still in the book. In the audio, I would say when Wolf takes care of her.

How could the performance have been better?

She could have dropped the accent all together instead of having it at times and not at others. When Wolf was angry the voice she used took me completly out of the story it was so bad. I am really hoping she does not do any more in this series.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Please don't judge this book on this horrible abridgement. Buy the book, it is a great story when told from start to finish.
