Publisher's Summary

"The hottest collection of studs in romance" (New York Times best-selling author Angela Knight) returns as number-one New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world - at last....

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it's about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young - just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It's hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he's learned firsthand.

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions...but as the battle over the race's throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together...finally become one.

"Fabulous as Always - Terrific Series"

Audiobook review:   For those following this series in order, we have seen a lot of interaction between Qhuinn and Blay, from the very beginning before their transition with them being the very best of friends. While LOVER AT LAST does focus on the relationship between Blay and Qhuinn anyone familiar with this series realizes that Ward will never just touch on one story but will engage the reader in the lives of the other brothers and introduce new characters into this magnificent series.

After reading other reviews, I understand that some readers want to just see the progression of B & Q’s relationship, I personally like the way Ward engages and teases the reader with other secondary stories by picking up with the newer character’s i.e. Assail; building a more significant background with Trez and his brother; and a little bit more depth on Xcor, the leader of the Band of Bastards.  In my opinion the cut-aways are a break and just build more interest on the main story of B & Q’s story.  AND, I really love learning more background and depth of interest on the side story characters.  Naturally, Ward does not hold back on the sex, and it is hot and steamy (both the actual, and the dreams of the leads!).

LOVER AT LAST also gave a new and interesting level of what will be one very BIG star-crossed lover relationship involving Layla who is carrying Qhuinn's young. One can see the writing on the wall for this and I can’t wait for Ward to give the reader more on this storyline because it seems almost impossible for a happy ending.  We’ll have to see.

Add to that, Trez and Assail’s issues with women they have become attracted to, along with the impossibilities of happily ever afters, these two storylines seem like 'mission impossible' and Ward is going to be very busy building stories around these unimaginable pairings.   On the flip side - I was brought to tears at the wonderfully descriptive scenario’s where B & Q came to discover truths about themselves, especially Qhuinn’s revelations of who he truly was.

Bottom line:  This series just gets better and better and the fabulous performance by Jim Frangione’s interpretation, and voice over’s make these books and the characters come to life!   Anyone who has not read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is totally missing out on such a wonderful experience!

Would you try another book from J.R. Ward and/or Jim Frangione?

I've tried on several occasions to listen to the audio version of this book. It's not my fav. I'd say skip the book and go see the movie.

    "Quhinn At Last"

I loved listening to this book and I love this series. This was the book that made me want to read this series, with that being said this book was frustrating to listen to and at times I found myself screaming at it. This book had a lot going on in it and that was the frustrating part for me with so many storylines and all the jumping around in it. This was a great read I love Quhinn and Blay I didn't like all the beating around the bush that they were doing. Blay has been in love with Quhinn for years, but Quhinn didn't want to admit his true feelings for Blay. Quhinn has always been treated like in outcast by his family because of his eyes the whole one blue one green thing so he learned to take care of himself Blay was his best friend along with John they never judged him and always had his back and he had there's. The book also focused a lot on the Shadows Trez and IAm with Trez running from s'Hisbe and his new habit of having sex with any female who moves. Xcor and his band of basters who are still trying to Kill Wrath and him using Layla to find the compound. Assail and his drug dealing and being caught up with Sola. This book had a lot going on in it. I was glad to see that Quhinn finally found some happiness I don't want to give too much away, but this book was better than I expected it to be even though it did frustrate me at times. This book was very well written although I did feel it was too long at times. I would recommend this series to people who like reading about hot sexy vampires and action.

"Hard to handle man on man."
What was most disappointing about J.R. Ward’s story?

This book is hard to handle due to the sexual content and description of man on man sexual encounters. I skipped over the chapters that involved man on man sex. The story would have been more appealing if the author skipped the descriptive homosexual sex scenes. As a woman, I am not interested in listening to every detail about a man performing oral sex on another man. It is not appealing!

What about Jim Frangione’s performance did you like?

The narrator gave a great performance. It was well delivered.

Did Lover at Last inspire you to do anything?

It inspired me to skip over certain chapters.

    Any additional comments?

Excluding the homosexual sex scenes the book was great.

"Best of the Black Dagger books"
Would you listen to Lover at Last again? Why?

    Yes,yes,YES

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lover at Last?

The build to the climax of Quin and Bla's romance was in my humble opinion was wonderful. I laughed and cried listening to this book.

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

    Quin

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Relationship are hard at the best of itmes. When one person has been broken from childhood by none other then their family. Finding true love is often a miracle. This story shows that miracles still can and do happen.

    Any additional comments?

Can't understand the negative reviews, this one is thus far my favorite and I'm now on the last book in print at this time. Please keep these stories coming. Thank you J R Ward!

    "Better than anticipated"
Would you listen to Lover at Last again? Why?

I have listened to this book twice because the story was inspiring, heart felt and current.

What other book might you compare Lover at Last to and why?

Nothing I have read to date.

What does Jim Frangione bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr Frangione is the only person to read this series. His understanding of each character is surpassed only by Ms Ward's.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Absolutely hated to stop listening.

    Story
"Great book - would have love a better ending."

    ***Spoiler Alert***
I have been a huge fan of BDB series and I was so excited about Q&B book, that I blew through J. Mathew's and Tor's book to get to Q&B. Although, I was left feeling a little cheated with the previous books ending, I still held out that Q&B's book was going to fill my cup. And it did, somewhat.

What I liked about the book: Ward touched on subject that even in our day and time it is still a sensitive topic. She did a great job, no hold's bar on the couple's scene! My favorite scene was the moment between Blay and his mother, which really warmed my heart. It was written well and felt real. Qhuinn's journey was also the best part of the story line. His confusion about who he truly was tied in well with the characters previous actions in the other books. Yet, he was still the beloved hero. Reading this book reminded me how far these two characters have come and how close they were at one time.

What I didn't like about the book: I understand the need to introduce new character's in order to continue the series, but Sola was introduced mid-book, and from there Assale and her's story line took over the rest of the book. I could have done without their story line, or they could have had their own book. By the time these two were inserted with their story's, I was already invested in Xcor, Llaya, and Wrath's story line. Then Trez and Iam story line also started to develop which pulled away more time from Q&B. After all, this was their book? With all these story lines going at the same time, I felt the ending was rushed, thrown together and could have been finished tighter instead of utilizing an Epilogue to wrap things up.

There was still so much more room to polish the relationship between Q&B. There are still a lot of unanswered questions for the trios, Qhuinn, Blay and Llaya. Fingers cross that Ward ties this up better in future books, although I hear that these three are barely mentioned in the King.
