Publisher's summary

The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times best-selling author Angela Knight) returns as J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world - at last...

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another...

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: It seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward...

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one.

Intense

If your a Brotherhood fan then your going to love it because you simply want to continue the story. This is a long listen but allot of stories will spring from it. This happens to be my favorite paranormal series and I can't wait until the next one. Be advised this story is a MM story and has explict sexual content. Never a credit wasted when it comes to the Brotherhood.

Predictable

Same story with different characters. Totally predictable.
I am sure next book can be written by changing name of characters.

J. R. Ward is an awesome author but....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I do not believe my time was well spent. It was an uncomfortable read.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

Asal (sp)

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

I did not enjoy the latest book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I do not enjoy gay romance, consequently this book just did not do it for me. I LOVE the Black Dagger Brotherhood series; it's one of my favorite. I do hope J. R. Ward limits the number of same sex relationships in future books. I was very disappointed with the latest addition.

Excellent!!!

If you are anything like me and were a little worried for the series after the last book, fear no more. This one is really good. We finally get to see Blay and Quinn get together (and it is everything that I was hoping for) and even the arcs setting up future books are engaging. I am now eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. If you have read and enjoyed the other books in this series, I sure you have already purchased this one, if you have not read any of the books, I cannot recommend them enough, you are in for a treat.

Good story, but Not Her Best

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Of course, I would recommmend this to a friend. The BDB story is so much more than just one book in the series. While, yes, the primary focus of LAL is Blaylock and Quhinn, there is so much more going on than just a gay male romance novel. Yes, it is a gay male romance novel. If you are not comfortable with M/M love stories, than this likely isn't for you.
What JR Ward excels at in this story, is character! She has an undeniable talent for making her characters sympathetic and believable. The story weaves multiple points of view and characters from previous stories.
If you read and love the BDB stories, there is much in this book that moves the story along. minor characters in this book are developed and we see more of the Shadows and other vampires outside the Brotherhood. The BDB world is definitely expanding to create more content for future novels. (yippee)

What about Jim Frangione’s performance did you like?

Jim Frangione IS the voice of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I cannot even read the printed book without hearing his voice in my head as Rhage or Butch. He does an excellent job of differentiating the characters.

Do you think Lover at Last needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

LAL Will have a follow-up book DUH! The secondary storylines (Assail and Tres) leave off in the middle! The next book will likely be about one of these males.

Any additional comments?

LAL is a love story, and if you are a reader of the BDB series, then you know that JR Ward writes like a man, especially when writing from a male point of view. You also know that her male characters are dominant, instinctual, animalistic, aggressive, physical, fierce fighters. You also know that her characters express their emotions physically and her writing is VERY descriptive in intimate situations. She does not back away from Blay and Quhinn because they are male. She gives as much attention to our boys as she did to any of the previous couples.

LOVER AT LAST!!!

First I am calling a spade a spade, Blay was totally a D- I - N - K at the beginning of the book. Let's be honest he was. He didn’t want Qhuinn but he didn’t want Layla to have him either. Yet he was with Saxton… NOT cool bro, not cool.
Blay – “We don’t fit anymore.” OUCH, thank you so very much there, buddy.
There are a lot of other stories going on in this one. IAM and Trez are dealing with the fact that Trez might have to marry the queens' daughter of their race. I love that IAM is a New York Times kind of guy.

You also have Assail and Sola I am not sure where they are going but it looks like it could be a good storyline to be sure.
Rev wanting to talk to Assail can’t be good but I think these two need a sit-down esp if Assail is taking over the drugs.

Z had a quote I loved
“I will die before kissing you Hollywood.”
The airplane scene was pretty epic. And it ended up saving Z’s life so yay to Qhuinn for flying a freaking plane and landing it without killing them or anyone else!
I took notes and this is exactly what my note said.

-I loved the AIRPLANE scene! <3
Qhuinny one bad a - s - s mother AKA Wicked A - S - S PIOLET!-

I know my thoughts are all over the place with this one but that’s kind of how I felt with it I am so so happy the way it played out for Qhuinn and Blay but I was mad too. Blay wasn’t truthful about his break up with Saxton that irked me because it made Qhuinn feel bad he was boning his cousins' man.

Xcor and Throe using Layla like that peed me off. Then he has the nerve to follow her!!!! Grrrrrrr.
Blay and Saxton coming to an understanding was pretty nice to see.

Just to say the mating ceremony was awesome and the sitting room sexiness yes please!!!!

Oh the boys <3

My Least Favorite

The narrator was spot on as usual but the whole gay sex thing just didn't appeal to me.

More please!!!!

I feel like I have been waiting for 10 years for this book, but it was worth the wait! What can I say, in truth I didn't know how JR was going to pull off a tasteful love affair between two men that has spanned both their life times, but it was done properly and wonderfully!

I especially liked the side stories, we hear more about Layla and Score, and we got to know some of our favorites a bit better. There are multiple loose ends and side stories which makes me feel like I am going to be staking JR wards website for news of what's next? Will it be Score/Layla, or perhaps the shadows Tres and Iam will get their own book, and the new players can't be overlooked either especially with one of their fates still up in the air.

PLEASE WRITE FAST JR!!!!

I WRITE REVIEWS NEVER....AMAZING...JUST BREATHE

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The people I know that like paranormal romance, although this is so much more, will love the series and this book. The reason I love this book is watching the relationships develop over many books, not to say that the fast interaction is not awesome. This is about a male/male relationship which may scare some people, but start at the beginning and you are waiting for the wrap up of this relationship. With that said, it was well written and I loved their love. Amazing. I was worried about how this would be handled. I should not have given it a thought.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Blay. Always did. He is gentle but hard. Willing to go with it but hating it....knowing it should be different..giving what he can, taking what he can but honest about it for the most part. Quinn makes you sad at every freaking turn as hard as he tries.

Which scene was your favorite?

Blay and Quinn are in a bar, the honesty....

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did shed tears.

Any additional comments?

It would be hard to pick this book up and feel the pain, passion and connection. The series is one that keeps you going. I am so anxious for the main attraction the first time I listen, I sometimes miss the subtle introductions, which are many. This writer keeps you going. Characters are amazing and well developed. When a new book comes out I feel like I am visiting my good friends ;0)...with tons of drama.

Was expecting a great story

I love this series and was expecting a great story, but it was just ok. A lot of bits and pieces of other characters life took away from the story. I was not impressed.
