Lover Unleashed

I love that Manny is human and that even though he gets the scenes that all these big warriors are something else he still stands up to V. That gets huge points in my book.

I love the connection between Manny and Payne is almost comes off the pages. Even before surgery, when Payne is scared out of her brain and Manny, is this solid support there connection is just so special.

Poor Manny his body wasn’t letting him just be… ‘he was done servicing it. So he had to tie it up’
Cough yeah poor little Manny.
After doing the surgery and knowing he was going to have to forget. Braiding his card into her hair was special and I felt bad when she had to leave it behind.
And oh god when his own brain wouldn’t let him forget it was starting to really affect him. Wow, that what hear breaking to read. You can’t be a surgeon if you're losing your mind.

We see a lot of V and Jane and coming to terms with things from his past and her essentially being a ghost and all that implies. V getting so upset with Jane is practically tells her to leave like that. Yeah, we get to see a lot with these two.

Layla’s acceptance of Qhuinn is utterly beautiful and brought a tear to my eye.

Omg and I have to say after V found Manny and Payne in the shower. Lmao doing the ping pong off the walls cause he was blinded! LOVED that lmao.

It's more than a filler book.

I was a bit concerned when I started because a lot of reviewers said this book felt like a filler book. I disagree completely - it's as good as the rest of the series, as detailed and fulfilling as any of the others. Sure, there's focus on 3 main character's stories, rather than the one main character as in many of the other books, but all 3 of them are complete and detailed. And having the stories of V, Payne and Quinn moving forward is worth each of them not being front and center throughout the entire novel.

I didn't like V's story here - I don't really get it - but I can appreciate why it was part of the story. I like the Manny-Payne story, and how Quinn's future might have been foreshadowed a bit. And I like the tension around Score much better than the Lessers since he actually seems like a real threat.

Interestingly, at the end of this novel, there's a scene (regarding detective Veck) that belongs to the start of another of Ward's stories (Envy)... the BDB series is better, but this other series (Fallen Angels) is still better than most other entries in the paranormal romance genre so if you've run out of Ward to read, that's a decent selection.

In sum: this is as good as any of the other BDB books, with lots of sex and tension and "pop-humour"... and the narration is excellent.

A Series Turnaround!!!

Any additional comments?

Normally around the 8th book of a series there is a decline in the quality of the story... Not so for Black Dagger Brotherhood. The series took a giant leap forward in the previous book, Lover Mine, and continues the momentum in this installment. I don't do plot summaries in my reviews so I will just say: "Girl Power!" "Humans!!" "Evil Vampires?" "Lessers SUCK!"

absolutely remarkable

From the first word to the last a remarkable tale. J R Ward is the greatest. She brings each and every one of her characters to life or death if you will. Jim Frangione's timing in the narration is incredible and I recommend this book and all the previous books for anyone who enjoys escaping the norm and wrapping themselves in the warmth of a good story. Looking forward to the next book with anticipation, as well as her next book in the Fallen Angel series.

Excellent journey

This was an excellent read. It had the perfect mix of intrigue , mystery, romance and sex. Details woven in and out of the story usher you from one brother's life to another's within the novel, all tying into a great resolve. The characters are suffering; enduring much of todays reality and dysfunctions, but the fantasy ties it all together into a good journey. Great read.

Continuation of BDB series

This story is about Payne who has a spinal injury and Dr. Manello. There was a nice little twist in the story. V learns how to deal with his issues and becomes accepting of the relationship between the two and finally understands the vision he had in a previous story about Dr. Manello. There are several story lines going and you get a little of each of the couples. The Band of Bastards are introduced in this book.

I did have some audio issues with corrections and editing in this book. It was annoying but not to distraction though and I was able to finish the story. As for the general story it wasn't as riveting as the previous books and I didn't have to complete the entire book in one sitting as I have in previous books.
