Publisher's summary

In best-selling author Katie MacAlister’s Love in the Time of Dragons, suburban mom Tully Sullivan wakes up in a far-off place surrounded by strangers—many of them muscular, sexy ones—claiming to be dragons. They insist Tully is a dragon, too, and that she’s committed crimes deserving of death. Now Tully must disprove the allegations before time runs out.

So-so

I wanted to finish the book but didn’t care for it very much. I don’t want to read the others in the series. However the performance was excellent; one of the best I’ve heard. She does the varying voices and accents so well that it doesn’t sound like the same reader.

Classic MacAlester & Rosenblat entertainment!

As always, Barbara Rosenblat used her skill with accents and unique voices to bring a Katie MacAlister book to life. Her talent combined with the amusing story producef another entertaining dragon tale.

I'm so sorry but I can't finish

This makes me sad to write because I absolutely LOVE this incredible author and this amazing voice actress!! Honestly, they are both such rare talents.

But. I have to return this book and I was unable to finish listening to it. I have a problem, you see, with hearing other people's mouth sounds. I am not sure what happened with the recording or the production of this, and if I were in the car with the noise of the road playing I may not hear it as much, but in my house and in my studio where it is otherwise nice and quiet, I think I can hear every breath, drop of saliva, and swallow that is happening in Angela's mouth. I'm sorry! Her performance is incredible as always. She does such a wonderful job with the characters and the story really is wonderful. But the mouth sounds are so prevalent. I listen to audiobooks regularly and I have never noticed it this strongly in any other recording. This is in no way a failing of the actress or the author. As I have stated, both are incredible. I have enjoyed the work of both of them for years.

I agree with some previous reviews

Would you try another book from Katie MacAlister and/or Barbara Rosenblat?

I really enjoy Katie MacAlister and generally enjoy Barbara Rosenblat's performances, but I just started this one and I must say it is EXTREMELY irritating right now.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story is fine so far

How could the performance have been better?

Editing the mouth noises!!!!!! None of the previous books have been this irritating with squishy, watery mouth noises from the narrator.

My favorite Dragons- the Light Dragons!

I have been a faithful Katie Macalister fan from day 1.... Before I joined Audible-I READ every series she has out and in doing so, my mind had created it's own opinion of all the character's voices, traits, etc... So, when I purchased and began listening to the Audible versions- narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, I admit I was a bit worried it wouldn't do them justice.... Her voice is very distinct- BUT... Oh, how I was SOOOO wrong!!!! Barbara's unique vocal ranges and absolutely superb variations on the characters accents BLEW ME AWAY!!! There really is no other narrator who could pull it off so flawlessly! Bravo Katie, and BRAVO Barbara!!!!

Simply entertaining

I loved the narrator's ability to clear maintain each character's voice, the humor and funny jokes. Thanks for such great writing as well as an amazing narration.

All I heard is mastication!!!

Where does Love in the Time of Dragons rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Worst performance ever. I can't enjoy the story as much as I'd like to because all I can hear is the reader swallowing and making weird smacking noises.

Would you be willing to try another one of Barbara Rosenblat’s performances?

Nope.

Incredibly annoying and confusing.

Would you try another book from Katie MacAlister and/or Barbara Rosenblat?

I've have mixed feelings about Katie MacAlister's books, but I'll avoid Barbara Rosenblat in the future.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect of the story for me was the demon. A lot of the other stuff was a bit ho-hum, and it was confusing. I bought this as part of the sale on 1st of a series items, but what I didn't know is that it's not *really* the first of a series, it's the first of a sub-section of a series. Other characters that appear are apparently from previous Dragon series by the author.

What didn’t you like about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance?

Her voice was very annoying, and you could hear every single swallow she made. It was the most disgustingly wet-sounding narration I've ever heard.

Did Love in the Time of Dragons inspire you to do anything?

To avoid other Dragon series novels from the same author. I might read her vampire books again, but this book was a bit annoying.

He is not a fat dragon!

In Love in the Time of Dragons, we meet Tully who is the resurrected Ysolde de Bouchier, mate to the dreaded ex-Black Dragon wyvern Baltic. Tully is suffering from severe memory loss. In order for Tully to fully regain her memory so she can either accept or reject her identity as Ysolde, she seeks out Baltic to answer her questions and all heck breaks loose. This is the first book in the Light Dragon series, but this plot calls heavily on characters and plots from earlier books in the Aisling Grey series and the Silver Dragon series. Most of the reoccurring characters are back including Jim who is present in a big fat Newfoundland way. Katie MacAlister’s heroines are always comically flawed, and Tully/Ysolde de Bouchier does not break from this pattern. As with all of Katie MacAlister’s books, Love in the Time of Dragons contains her offbeat, slightly Three Stooges infused sense humor and is a joy to hear. This is a fantastic book, and Barbara Rosenblat is as wonderful as she always is.
