3 ½ stars. I keep using the word nice

when describing this book.

It’s above average, but I’m having trouble saying I really liked it which is my definition of 4 stars. A lot of fun casual bantering. I smiled often. A gentle way to pass the time if you’re in the mood for contemporary romance. Young singles very successful at their jobs. They have good friends who are supportive. The subjects range from problems with family members, working too much, not enough time to date, and needing more balance in their lives. Cade and Brooke haven’t found anyone special enough to want to have more balance, until they meet each other. It’s not a suspenseful read, but it’s pleasant.

I would have liked more stress, suspense, or conflict either between them or within their jobs, like trying to catch a bad guy, or trying to uncover something bad at work. There was a little of that, but not enough.

There are four sex scenes. Not super hot, but nice.

The narrator Karen White does a fine job. Not off the charts, but nice.

Okay, but not my favorite.

I like Julie James' books. I was a little disappointed in this one. It's part of the FBI-US Attorney series. I think it was a big stretch to refer to it as "FBI". This book didn't have much suspense or much of an edge to it. More of a romantic novel.

What did you like best about Love Irresistibly? What did you like least?

The witty banter in the book is well written and well performed. What I didn't like is the fact that the premise of this series is characters associated with the FBI and the US Attorneys office. The first in the series used the premise well for an excellent Romantic-Suspense. The following 3 editions of this series are pretty much straight contemporary romance with very little, if any, suspense/mystery/action in the plot. A bit boring for my taste.

Would you be willing to try another book from Julie James? Why or why not?

Not sure - she started out strong with a really good romantic suspense - but then it pretty much became straight romance. Several hours of angst and why we can't be together is a drag to me - very predictable storyline and ending.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Karen White?

Yes - she is very good.

Was Love Irresistibly worth the listening time?

Mixed feelings on that. I can't say it isn't well written and narrated - just a bit boring. I think I am done with the series as it has become what does not interest me - straight contemporary romance.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this author when she added action/suspense in the mix. I'll be looking to see if she does anything like that again in the future.

Not bad, not great.

This book was decently enjoyable, but I never felt anything for the characters. The romance was very ho hum. It was rushed at the end to the point where I didn't believe their love. This is definitely the weakest of Julie James' books in my opinion. The narrator was okay. She pauses a lot which makes the read sound robotic at times. She did get better as the story went along.

I enjoyed the story but the narration was choppy and the pacing inconsistent. Best to read it yourself.

Boring!

Any additional comments?

This is a self help book with a pretense of being a romance novel! The plot is flat - not a single trace of thrill or suspense. The dialogues are pretentious. A teenage boy speaks like a middle-aged former attorney! The sex scenes are over the top cheesy. Overall, this is a waste of time. Listen to the book if you need a pep talk in your professional life/ love relationship, not as an entertainment.

Irresistibly Simple

A strong and determined female lead. A tough US attorney. A simple story. Nothing to say WOW about. But it was enjoyable. IF and that’s a big if, you like the series. Then you will enjoy this next installment.
