Publisher's summary

A former football star and one of Chicago's top prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cade Morgan will do anything to nail a corrupt state senator, which means he needs Brooke Parker's help. As general counsel for a restaurant company, she can get a bug to the senator's table at one of her five-star restaurants so the FBI can eavesdrop on him. All Cade has to do is convince Brooke to cooperate-and he's not afraid to use a little charm, or the power of his office, to do just that.

A savvy businesswoman, Brooke knows she needs to play ball with the U.S. Attorney's office-even if it means working with Cade. No doubt there's a sizzling attraction beneath all their sarcastic quips, but Brooke is determined to keep things casual. Cade agrees - until a surprising turn of events throws his life into turmoil, and he realizes that he wants more than just a good time from the one woman with whom he could fall terrifyingly, irresistibly in love.

My Favorite Romance Series Continues to Deliver

STORY (contemporary romance) - Love Irresistibly continues with all the things I like about this series. The main characters are intelligent and successful, there is an interesting plot going on besides just the romance and there is lots of sassy dialogue! In this book, Cade is a successful US Attorney and Brooke is the corporate attorney for an elite restaurant chain. They are thrown together as part of a criminal investigation Cade is working on, and the clever banter and sarcasm begins...until they start realizing they might actually like each other. There is also a pretty good sub-plot involving Cade's new-found brother, Zack, which Cade didn't realize existed.

There is sex in this book and it's fairly explicit, but it is only a few scenes and they're relatively short. Personally, that's how I like my romance novels -- hot but not a lot!

PERFORMANCE - As always, I enjory Karen White's narrations. Not only does she do a good job, but her natural voice lends itself equally to portraying male and female characters well. No wimpy, nasally Romeo here!

OVERALL - This romance stands alone, though there are "updates" on characters from previous books (like Cameron from Book 1 is now pregnant, etc). If you think you might be interested in all the characters in the series, you need to start with Book 1. There is explicit sex as mentioned above, and there are a few F-words in sexual situations. Nice, easy listen with no violence. Highly recommended for any female who enjoys contemporary romance stories!

Must Love Wit and Good Humor

Would you listen to Love Irresistibly again? Why?

Frankly, I just started this pre ordered book due to Jordan's story. What great lines. If you are doing anything that requires concentration while listening to this book, you will miss the humor. I have replayed the first 3 chapters as I would miss a good line and have to go back. I am laughing my head off.

Who was your favorite character and why?

too soon to tell, but so far, everyone introduced has a great fun line or lines.

Which character – as performed by Karen White – was your favorite?

Ms White has certainly gotten better with this series. I thought Jordan's brother would be the best story, but I could not get into the swing of it. Listening to Jordan story was fun!! Now this story, and Ms White has got a winner here so far.

Any additional comments?

Enjoy these stories and laugh your head off.

Wonderful..

Any additional comments?

As much as I loved the other books in this series I think I like this one the best. I know there wasn't any kind of suspense to speak of but it was such a great romance. I loved everything about Cade and Brooke, I really liked Ford, Vaughn, Huxley and Zach. A really enjoyable read. It does, however, seem that each book has more sex in it than the last, which isn't a bad thing.

As to the narrator: I think Ms. White outdid herself with this book. And the reviewer who said the hero's voice sounded like "a relative of Thurston Howl III from Giligans Island" I can only say NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!! Ms. White got better with each book. Even though I wasn't crazy about the Brooklyn accent she gave Nick in A Lot Like Love, it still wasn't horrible.

Such a charming story!

Julie James' fourth installment in the FBI-US Attorney Series does not fail. I absolutely LOVED this book. It's full of witty one-liners, and funny conversations. Like the previous three books, the storyline not only builds on what's going on in the characters life then, but also on their memories of important, life-changing events of the past. Unlike books 1 & 2, there is no crazy scenario where any of the characters are in immediate danger. Instead, the suspense relies mostly on what's going on Cade and Brooke's personal lives. As usual, both the male and female protagonists are intelligent and successful. Brooke is striving for balance in her personal life while Cade is essentially trying to find balance in his personal life.

Note: Although this is a series, it doesn't really build on the previous installments. Previous characters only make cameo appearances & their stories are barely a part of this one. Still, if you enjoy this book I highly recommend going back and buying the previous books. You won't be disappointed.

Really good listen

Julie James is such a reliably good author - she just manages to get it right. There is connection, romance, chemistry and intelligent capable characters.

The only reason this book got 4 not 5 stars was it was a little bit slow and didn’t quite have that ‘I don’t want to put it down’ quality like some of her other books.

Loved these two!

Love Irresistibly is Cade Morgan and Brooke Parker's story. Cade has been in the background in this series but with a big personality. He's the ADA to Cameron Lynde who we met in book one. Brooke is a new character to the series. She is the general counselor to an up and coming restaurant company.

Cade comes off as the hot shot attorney. He seemed pretty arrogant to me but not so much that I didn't like him. However, I was hoping we would get more from him in this book and we do. It took him falling for Brooke to really see his character grow. We start learning his backstory and by the end, I really liked his character and the kind of man he is.

Brooke is such a likable character. There is really nothing I didn't like about her. She's a hard worker. Maybe a little too hard of a worker but that's something we get to see some growth in her character as the story unfolds. She's been pretty unlucky in love so she's a bit gun shy with Cade. At first, he seems like another wrong choice for her but this author works her magic and you soon see what a great couple they make.

I borrowed this on the audible romance package. This is the same narrator as in previous books and I'm still loving her. She really does a fantastic job with these characters. This has been a fun series to listen to and I will continue on to the next book.

Good book...narration not so much

I know I'm an outlier in my dislike of Karen White's narration but you have to give me credit for trying..giving her many, many tries. Let me explain. In this series, every single hero sounds exactly like every other hero (and his buddies, colleagues, and bartenders). Acceptable, but certainly a far less skilled performance than I'd expect from a voice artist of Ms White's experience and repertoire.

A lot of (not so famous) female narrators do men's voices badly so that's somewhat forgivable. But it's the sound of her women that makes me grind my teeth into tiny nubs. It's bad enough that all women in Karen White World sound just alike, but do they really have to sound so uninspired, so sing-song-y bloody awful? At best bored and annoyed, at worst snobby and elitist. And the martyrlike sighs. Oh please..the deep, soulful sighs.

I've enjoyed reading this series, but no more listening. No matter how tempting the whispersync deal.

Hmmmmm...

First, I liked the first 3 books in this series but there has been so much time between them and book 4 I forgot so many of the characters from the past.
Second, I think this lacked ALOT of the depth the previous stories had.
Third, I had been a fan of Karen White but her male character sounded too much like a relative of Thurston Howl III from Giligans Island which tended to detract from the romance of it all.
That being said, it's an ok listen if you re so inclined. I might have liked it more if the male character's voice was a little better. Sorry....

Too chic lite for me

What did you like best about Love Irresistibly? What did you like least?

First 2 books were great. I knew 3rd was chic lite and bought anyway. I was hoping this one would have some suspense but sadly no. It was too chic lite for me. I think my Julie James days are done.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Karen is a good narrator that has grown on me. She has a good range and you can tell characters apart.

Any additional comments?

This one is perfect if you like an easy happy endings with no thrills.
