i>They call him many names, but angelic isn't one of them.

Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters", and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He's determined to continue doing what he does best - sin and sin again - and all's going swimmingly…until the day a shop door opens and she walks in.

She's too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world.

Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she's going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him - and with him her family and future - means taking on the devil himself, she won't back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible that the person who needs saving most is Jessica herself.

Reader is as excellent as this outstanding HR

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, the best female reader I've heard, her male characters are as convincing and natural as her female characters. Even ubiquitous readers such as Rosalyn Landor, do not compare. An exceptional reading.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a terrific, funny, touching, enjoyable story, now brought to life exceptionally well. And well worth the wait.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will look up her other titles. She is terrific. She has the author's wit down pat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but it's 11 hours so had to break it up.

Any additional comments?

This is on most avid HR readers best of the best ever lists, and this recording lives up to the excellence of the story itself.

Loved it!

Great writing, loved the storyline. Kate Reading is the absolute best narrator, especially for period pieces.

Number one in my Top Ten Romance Audiobooks

What made the experience of listening to Lord of Scoundrels the most enjoyable?

Perfect rendition, accents, voices, emotions. Italian! I loved the story and characters when I first read it. The Audiobook surpasses the reading experience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jessica is my favorite character. She is both sensible and naughty. Levelheaded yet passionate.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to another by this actor. I can only compare her to others where I already read the book. This was exactly right. Other performers get some voices totally wrong. I will listen again.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Soulmates.

A New Favorites!

Despite the beginning, which starts of the birth of a villain, I still thought this would be just like any other romance. It wasn't. I was constantly surprised, and sometimes frustrated (only in a good way) with the hero the whole time. This book was extremely well-researched and well-described as possible with just enough description to help, without it getting boring at all. It was a happy surprise! Now I think I'll see some other Loretta Chase books...

And yes, Kate Reading does a fabulous job. She look a second to get used to, but after about ten minutes I got used to her pace and was able to really enjoy her exceptional performance. Five stars, all around!

Good 5 star listen

I was going to give this an overall score of 4, but I found myself giving it a 5 for performance and a 5 for story, and recalled that I had a difficult time turning it off. I believe I am too stingy to give a 5 very often, except this one truly deserves the extra star! I thoroughly enjoyed the heroine. She is smart and independent. The hero is definitely damaged, but our lady is smart enough to figure that out and point it out to him in a way he can understand. The performance is perfect. Nothing worse than a good book with a bad reader. I just put two more Loretta Chase / Kate Reading books on my wish list. Interesting and fun. Not too graphic sexually, but enough sexual tension to keep it hot.

Fabulous Heroine

I enjoyed this heroine. She was an adult and not afraid to speak her mind. Dane was complex and I liked his evolution. The characters were my favorite part of this. The romance needed more work. But good read overall

Interesting regency characters

I very much enjoyed the storyline and the banter in this book.

I'm hot and cold about the narrator; she took a while to get used to, and when in "non-dialogue" mode has the irritating quirk of pronouncing the final word with the same intonation for the last 2 syllables. (Reminds me of narrator Justine Eyre, but not nearly as bad.) In dialogue mode, though, she does a great job with different UK class/regional accents as well as female voices (although her voice sounds a bit too old to be convincing for the lead female role). The male characters -- including the young ones and in particular the protagonist -- all sound at least middle-aged. It's a bit disturbing!

Typical romance novel

Not too much of a story but enjoyable nonetheless.
A good book to pass the time while your looking for the next great novel.
