"Real characters and a great story."

I have only recenty discovered Delle Jacobs. The two books I have read of hers are Romance but so much more. Loki's Daughters has a very real and believable setting with honest characters. The plot is traditional in many aspects, but it also has enough nuances to keep the listener engrossed. While the narrator isn't the best ever, she's easy enough to listen to. I bought it during a sale, so it was under $10, but I would have been happy to use a credit for it.

Would you try another book from Delle Jacobs and/or Sarah Coomes?

I like Sarah Coomes as a narrator. The story was lacking. The main character just needed to tell her beau the truth. It seemed like the same thing kept happening over and over. The book didn't start going anywhere til the last 20 minutes.

Would you ever listen to anything by Delle Jacobs again?

    No

What didn’t you like about Sarah Coomes’s performance?

I like her as a narrator.

Did Loki's Daughters inspire you to do anything?

What did you love best about Loki's Daughters?

Usually, I am a terrible sucker for Scottish Highland romance novels but this book has got me stuck on Vikings!

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

Sarah Coomes is DEFINITELY one of my very favorite narrators! Her range for different accents is surprising! She always makes the performance very believable and makes me fall in love with the characters!

    "It wasn't that good..."

I picked this one up in the hidden gem sale, and I kinda wish I didn't. It had potential but it didn't hit the mark.
A small Celtic village off the Irish coast was raided by Vikings, it left the village in ruin with pretty much no men left. So ten years later women are trying to survive and keep the village going with no luck they collectively can't handle men's work along with their women's work simultaneously. One day the Viking's return or what the women think are Vikings, really just Norsemen to setting in the village and help the Celtic women. The Norsemen are perfect gentlemen helping out with everything and bringing the village and land back to life and all the Celtic women can do is play silly pranks on the men and call them heathen Vikings. It pretty much goes on like this through the whole book. The pranks really just reminded me of college greek week, when sororities and fraternities would prank each other, it was that silly.
It comes out that Ronin the leader of the Norsemen was at the village raid 10 years ago and saved Arienh the ringleader of the Celtic women from being raped from the Viking chasing her that night. He came back for her wanting her to be his wife and she just asks like a totally brat towards him even though she gave up her V-patch to him pretty early on in the book. Once you do that you are considered married and therefore Arienh has no legs to stand on to be such a brat. The whole book is the women struggling to accept the men and once they do...the book is over. I found it rather dull and recommend passing this one over.

    "Like Listening to Bad TV"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

There was no depth to the story or the characters. It was like watch bad TV when you are home sick. It is mildly entertaining, but only slightly better than silence.

Has Loki's Daughters turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    The narrator was fine.

What character would you cut from Loki's Daughters?

There were many poorly developed characters. I wouldn't cut them, I would give them more depth.

    Any additional comments?

In the end, it was just dumb.

    "Wish there was a sequel!"
Would you listen to Loki's Daughters again? Why?

I would listen to it again. It is a beautiful story that kept my interest the entire time. The prejudice got a tiny big old toward the end, but I understand others may love the suspense.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Loki's Daughters?

I enjoyed the times when they came together as people.

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

Oh yes! I loved the reading by Sarah! Perfect for this book. I am always afraid of an accent reader, but I understood every word and her rendition of the different scenes was amazing!

    Any additional comments?

    Worth the read!

    "Excellent---really fun and different."
What did you love best about Loki's Daughters?

It was very realistic..in so many romance novels characters make stupid decisions; like they decide not to tell someone something important for silly reasons, or they don't demand answers about other things. Subsequently, misunderstanding occur and that becomes the main plot device. That is not what happens here. There are reasonable reasons for the conflict between the 2 main characters yet their is lots of chemistry too.

What did you like best about this story?

I think I liked that it was funny in addition to all of the other things I expected (ie romance). There are some laugh-out-loud funny parts!

    Which scene was your favorite?

When the girls steal the guys cloths and the guys decided to get back at them....

    Any additional comments?

One of the best romance novels I've read this year. IF you like romance and IF you read a lot of it you know that often it's the same story line recycled over and over. This one seems fresh and the setting/time period (Vikings!) is not as overdone as the 1800's.

    "Done.."
    Any additional comments?

Ok, I'm at 57% and I'm done. This is nothing more than the women trying to chase off the Northmen and the Northmen refusing to go. The salt was just rediculous.
Maybe, I'm just not into Vikings, I don't know.
Arienh is not nice at all and Birgit is just vicious. I realize she was raped years ago but she wasn't prepared to give Egil any kind of chance, it wasn't him that raped her. I really can't stand sooo much angst in a book and this one is full of it.

It's a nice cover but that's about all.

As to the narrator: I've listened to 2 different books by Ms. Coomes and gave her 5 stars but this one is just terrible. Just because you give a man an accent doesn't make him sound like a man. And these men did not sound like men. It was her voice with an accent. Not good..

    "Boring"
How could the performance have been better?

The narrator's accent was a bit harsh and did not enhance the story. Her voice was not dynamic enough to represent multiple characters well.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    nope

    Any additional comments?

The story was boring and trite, with flat boring characters. Maybe if I had not been reading well written books I could have handled this book, but that was not the case.
