Publisher's summary

For generations, Arienh’s people have feared the Viking raids. She knows all too well the terrible toll the Northmen have taken on the Celts, having lost most of her own family to their swords. So one stormy night when she encounters and wounds a Viking warrior, she has every right to want him dead. And yet she hesitates….

Ronan knows Arienh doesn’t recognize him. He was just a boy when his kinsmen raided her village and Ronan risked his own life to protect her. Now he has returned to claim the beautiful girl who captured his heart years before. But wooing a Celtic woman is no easy task. And no one has a heart more guarded than Arienh, who has sacrificed her own happiness for the good of her village. She and Ronan are unlikely lovers, forged in dangerously opposite worlds - yet bound together by strength, sacrifice, and an undeniable passion.

Very Enjoyable!

Delle Jacobs is a new author for me, I will definitely be downloading more from her.
Sarah Coomes narration was very good.
The book was not just about two characters but really touched on many of the Celt villagers and Vikings.
Got this book on sale but would spend a credit on another book from this author.

Fun listen

What did you love best about Loki's Daughters?

This was an easy, entertaining listen. The reader is very, shall we say, enthusiastic, and keeps the somewhat predictable story moving. Pretty standard romance, but very well-written, with some interesting historical detail thrown in.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Loki's Daughters?

Jacobs writes a pretty evocative sex scene :)

What does Sarah Coomes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She's a terrific reader and can switch seamlessly from British to Scandinavian accents very convincingly. Listening was far more enjoyable than reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Lots of sighing.

Northman, not Viking

I was in the mood for a good love story, but with that, some times you get a story that frustrates you because the main characters don't communicate the one thing that is keeping them apart. This story certainly fit that bill. Ronan has loved Arienh for 10 years without her knowing it, and she has waited for his return for 10 years. When he does come back, she doesn't recognize him and even if she did, she won't get her HEA, because of a secret she is guarding and the fact he is a Viking. (He keeps insisting he's not a Viking, but a Northman, and there is a difference) It gets frustrating at times, but I listened on and did enjoy the book, knowing that this was one of those typical love stories and all would end well.

Fluff

What did you like best about Loki's Daughters? What did you like least?

No thinking was required for this book at all.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was trying too hard. A native would cry at her accent.

I wish this was a series! I didn't want it to end!

What did you love best about Loki's Daughters?

Usually, I am a terrible sucker for Scottish Highland romance novels but this book has got me stuck on Vikings!

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

Sarah Coomes is DEFINITELY one of my very favorite narrators! Her range for different accents is surprising! She always makes the performance very believable and makes me fall in love with the characters!

Enjoyable but not phenomenal.

Where does Loki's Daughters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's probably about at the halfway mark.
It is definitely not the worst I've read but it certainly does not rate anywhere close to Diana Gabaldon's books.

Which character – as performed by Sarah Coomes – was your favorite?

This was the first book that I listen to buy this particular narrator.
I don't think that one character really stood out although I thought she did a fair job with all of them.
I think that her narration did help me to be a little more engaged in the book that I would have otherwise.
But considering the fact that I listen to this book in between two books that were narrated by Gerard Doyle who I think is probably the very best there is, I was not completely blown away.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no.
I was interested but not completely engrossed in the story.
However, I did want to get done with the book so that I could move on to the next book that I wanted to listen to which was already downloaded.

Any additional comments?

I was looking for a little more of a light read after the book that I had just finished previous to this one.
This definitely fit the bill as far as that was concerned.
I was hoping maybe for a little more historical fact in this book especially as I am interested in all things Celtic. The books seem to Lagar bit in some places as it was a bit redundant.
Overall though it was a pretty good book and a sweet story.
I do have to say though that by the end having heard the author refers to Ronan's (organ) About 20 times, I really wanted to send the author a thesaurus, or some carefully highlighted passages of some of Diana Gabaldon's writing.
Considering the book was on sale I do believe that it was worth the money spent.
It probably would have even been worth it if I had used the credit for it.

Was repetitive and boring***

Would you try another book from Delle Jacobs and/or Sarah Coomes?

I like Sarah Coomes as a narrator. The story was lacking. The main character just needed to tell her beau the truth. It seemed like the same thing kept happening over and over. The book didn't start going anywhere til the last 20 minutes.

Would you ever listen to anything by Delle Jacobs again?

No

What didn’t you like about Sarah Coomes’s performance?

I like her as a narrator.

Did Loki's Daughters inspire you to do anything?

No
