One decent story but terrible narration on both..

TEXAS COLD CASE

First time reading a Harlequin Romantic Suspense but since it came free with the Audible Romance Program I thought I’d give it a try. And it turned out to be pretty good. I was surprised at the amount of sexual tension in the book. I honestly prefer sexual tension through the book rather than a sex scene plopped down in the story somewhere, as soooo many authors do.

It wasn’t so much a romance as it was a murder mystery. I mean there was romance but the story wasn’t based on that. Colt and Lacie were trying to solve the murder of his mother, almost 20 years before, and his father’s incarceration for her murder. Even though his parents were both dead he needed to clear his father’s name. AND the two had attempts made on their lives in one day. Then they were almost killed again by the bad guy and his men a few days later. The real baddie was obvious from the first time you met him but it didn’t take away from the mystery of who did what when.

There was 1 sex scene in this book but it was not even ok so I couldn’t listen to it, but I was ok with that. There really no swearing to speak of.

As to the narration: Let me start by saying I have no idea who narrated Texas Cold Case. It says it was Christine Marshall but it definitely wasn’t. The narrator was a man, but I don’t know who. Anyway, most of the time I couldn’t stand him, and whatever you do don’t listen to him talk during sex. He sounded just like he was going to be sick any second.



TEXAS LOST AND FOUND

The second book, Texas Lost and Found is narrated by a woman so I’m assuming that it’s Christine Marshall but I wouldn’t swear to it. I’m going to review the narrator and not Christine Marshall since I don’t know for certain it’s her or not.

This was a continuation of the last one but it concentrated on Nina and Josh, she’s a Hotshot Firefighter and he’s a doctor. While fighting a fire she witnesses a murder then she and Josh sneak her out of the hospital, where she was recovering from problems from the fire, which leaves them on the run from the killer’s henchmen.

Unfortunately, it was hard to believe Nina was a Hotshot Firefighter when all she did was whine. I really didn’t like her at all. Being a firefighter you’d have thought she’d be brave but all she wanted to do was get out of Texas. It was like she really didn’t care that a woman had been murdered and she’d seen the killer and he could go free for all she cared. That’s not how you write a firefighter.

There was explicit sex in this book but I ignored it, and there was very little swearing. I would read this genre of book again but not this author.

As to the narration: She was pretty bad. Nothing worse than a female narrator who has the men sounding just like girls.
