Publisher's summary

I know I should be afraid of him. He's huge. Powerful. Cold as ice. But the way he gazes at me makes me weak.... Now we're on the run together. They say he's a monster, but I've glimpsed the person inside. The man sent to kill me is the only one who can save me, and I might be the only one who can save him.

Not too bad!

I could have loved it, but the female character annoyed me. To each their own, but I just couldn't stand her.
I guess I like my female leads a little less.....helpless and needy. Other than that I liked it.

Not as good as I expected

Kissing My Killer by Helena Newbury (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers

♥ ♥ So I picked up this book because I REALLY enjoyed the last book I read by this author (Punching and Kissing) and this one had gotten even better reviews! Apparently I do not like what everyone else likes. I am not into this much sex in a book. If they weren’t actually doing it, they were thinking it, or planning it or even sometimes it felt like setting up scenes in the book to have the scenario of sex be the only option… Don’t get me wrong.. Sex in books is good but I didn’t feel the chemistry between Gabriella and Alexi which made their interactions less passionate and more just... sex. Also Gabriella seemed to not know herself and she was aroused by things she didn’t seem to want or like… but then did them anyway.. why? I asked myself.. To please Alexi? Or is she actually wanting to try this stuff..but she’s just hesitant? That part bothered me. I admit I started skipping through the last few sex scenes.

The plot of the story was decent and I think maybe had I not felt weighed down by all the sex I would have enjoyed the story more. I really dislike giving negative reviews, but I will be a bit more selective when reading the next Newbury.. Cause like I said.. Her other book was really great! This is part of the “Kissing series” but they do not seemed to be linked, at least not to the one I read.

The narrators both did a wonderful job. Probably the only reason I finished the book as quick as I did.

👍👍 Loved the story! Fantastic characters!

I didn't listen to the other stories in the series. I jumped right in with Alexei and Gabriella and I didn't have any trouble following the story at all, so I don't think it's necessary to listen to the other books.

The main characters are written in a way that made me really like them! I'd love to read more books about them and their adventures. That's how much I enjoyed spending 9hrs with them. They're both smart and it doesn't take them forever to figure out what's going on with the Russian Mob. The author also avoided having these two make the typical dumb mistakes that are overused in suspense or thriller novels when characters are being pursued. Thank you for that, Helena Newbury!

I disagree with the other reviews that mentioned the internal dialogue. I didn't have a problem with it at all and definitely didn't find it annoying. I also am thankful that the male narrator didn't attempt to use a Russian accent during the internal dialogue scenes.

The story moves along nicely and there is real chemistry between Alexei and Gabriella! The sex scenes are hot like someone call the Fire Dept. hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The only time I got annoyed was when Gabriella couldn't drive a car. I was so annoyed that I skipped part of that scene because it just didn't make any sense that this grown woman didn't know how to put a car in drive. There's internal dialogue along the lines of her saying "D must mean drive." Ugh! This was literally the ONLY thing that annoyed me about this book and it was later explained why she didn't know how to drive as part of her back story, then I felt like a jerk☹️

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I'm considering listening to the other books in the series, but Alexei and Gabriella have set a high bar!

Love this series! 💖

Truly love this series, but the first book: Lying and Kissing is my favorite overall.

I couldn't finish it

I had to stop 30 minutes in. It was too slow. Too much internal monologue. The female narrator just didn't do it for me. I had only tried it because of Christian Fox and I wish the story was good enough to finish.

not my fave in this series, but still good

Lucy Rivers could stand to use a bit more intensity and inflection, but she has a nice voice for narrating. Christian Fox, Amazing! I didnt feel like this story measured up to Texas and Punching in some ways, but Im really glad I listened. Not every woman comes thru trauma or tragedy w strength from the surviving of it. Some of us, barely survive at all. and sometimes long after its over we're still locked into that fear and we wake up to struggle for survival everyday.

Story written solely for the erotica factor

This plot had such potential .... but fell flat. I found it unbelievable that a hardened hit man would run into a woman (literally) in a coffee shop and immediately fall in lust so far that he forgets his training to pursue her. That being said ... the h/immediately goes back to her apartment after said run in and has erratic fantasies about him. Sorry, but I could not and did not find this believable. Fortunately I have kindle unlimited and got it with whispersinc for like $3. It was not worth the money.

DNF: Poor Writing & Robotic Female Narrator

I couldn’t finish this one—despite the work of Christian Fox, whom I love. I’m not sure if the fantasy at the start of the story was just creepy because the lead female character was a nut-job, or if it was the fact that Lucy Rivers always sounds like an old-school digital voice before AI started to master human emotion through cadence, tone, and inflection. I’ve never heard a human sound as much like a robot as she does. This book was a little better than most of her work—but only minutely. I can’t believe how difficult it apparently is for narrators to read in a natural voice—particularly female narrators. Not only is the narration terrible, but the writing is also lazy. For instance, she is supposed to be agoraphobic, but the author has a very difficult time writing a character with agoraphobia. She makes silly justifications for scenarios like visiting the diner. Supposedly, the lead female character is OK with being in a diner because she has seen those on television before. Another similarly weak situation is when Alexei admits to his boss he’s responsible for his partner’s death because he says he doesn’t want the mafia to take it out on her. It’s silly to begin with because in the previous paragraph, he’d described how violent they would be to her before killing her because she had hacked them. There are no worsening degrees to fear at that point. He’s already insinuated rape, torture, and death. Why make such a fuss about whether or not she had killed one of their men under the guise of protecting her when no such degree of protection exists? The writing is just so bad, “…one of the most biggest human traffickers we knew of.” “Most biggest,” really? Please hire editors—please. I only made it a little over 2 hours in before I just couldn’t take any more. Between the terrible narration, weak, juvenile writing, and overall suspension of disbelief required to enjoy this one, I just couldn’t go on. If I am ever feeling adventurous and revisit this one, I will update the review if necessary.

not a great performance

story was ok. it was a mash up of Transporter meets James Bond. wasn't thrilled about the performance. some parts were just read with no emotion or infliction and other parts nailed it.
