The tension at the beginning, with Naomi's family and the mysterious events happening around her really draw you in. It's a unique and well told story.
She captured a range of emotions that added a lot of depth.
A+ would recommend!
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this fantasy romance type book. It took me a couple chapters to warm up to it, but all I can say now is... Give me more! Naomi is a young girl who many can identify with, living in an abused neglected situation with her parents. She finds love fantastically unexpected. If you like romance, and you like a good book with amazing character, do yourself a favor and buy this book!! I can't wait to listen to more by this author!! I also have to give props to the narrator for keeping me in the moment and full of emotion just by the different voices and the way she makes it so easy to distinguish from one character to the next!

Nine times out of ten I would have rated this book a 2-star or lower. This is almost never my type of book. The teen angst, sudden magic ability, love triangle, surprise villain... all these thing usually add up to a big disappointment for me. But Loth did an excellent job keeping me interested despite all the reasons I could have had to hate it.
I think at least part of my enrapture with the book came from listening to Emma Lysy narrate the story. It never felt like someone was reading me a story; it felt like I was watching a movie. She did an excellent job portraying each character and their emotions.

The dynamics of the two parties trying to keep eachother in check despite one or the other going rogue.
The brothers earn a tie spot. They really made for good sibling and love triangle dynamics.
Dwayne...I hated this guy with a passion! I wanted to punch him in his hillbilly face. He was voiced perfectly...drawling and dumb as rocks. It was awesome!
Definitely too heavvy for one sitting, but there were days I put off a few tasks to keep listening.
Very well written. Quite original,
The only mistake that stood out was that the location fluctuated between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It's an oversight. Aside from that.....stellar!!!
Eagerly awaiting next book.
Wow. What an original story concept. Just the right amount of supernatural mixed with a little romance. The story progress smoothly. The character build up is well executed. You become attached quickly to the characters and begin to care for them wanting to know what's going to happen next after each page. Kimberly Loth has created a unique and magical intriguing world that seems like it could really exist. Or maybe I just wish it did. Ha ha. Lots of fun to read and I enjoyed listening to it as well. The reader's voice fits the main character perfectly. Made it more believable. Highly recommended.

I knew this was a young adult genre, and I love reading or listening to them in hope of finding a good one to recommend to our high school librarian.
The novel started out with a female protagonist that draws your sympathy . I found myself rooting for her to have a better life. I was not fond of any of the male characters. All of them seemed controlling, demanding and possessive. In this battle of good vs evil it is hard to figure out who is good and who isn't. I liked the theme of roses worked into the plot, and a few of the twists in the plot. The ending was a bit blah. I'm not sure I would read more of the series.
I am addicted to books. Nothing makes me happier than crawling inside a good book.
No I don't relisten or reread a book.
When she brings the roses back to life in the greenhouse.
My original review was lost so I cannot remember the main characters name. The young lady that was discovered she was a shade. I will follow this series.

Perfect for a 12 year old girl but everyone else, not so much! Twilights got nothing on all the angst in this book:/
