Publisher's summary

He comes to her more dead than alive, a towering black-clad stranger riddled with bullets and rapidly losing blood. As she struggles to save him, veterinarian Tess Culver is unaware that the man calling himself Dante is no man at all but one of the Breed, vampire warriors engaged in a desperate battle.

In a single erotically charged moment, Tess is plunged into his world - a shifting, shadowed place where bands of Rogue vampires stalk the night, cutting a swath of terror. Haunted by visions of a dark future, Dante lives and fights like there is no tomorrow.

Tess is a complication he does not need - but now, with his brethren under attack, he must shield Tess from a growing threat that includes Dante himself. For with one reckless, irresistible kiss, she has become an inextricable part of his underworld realm...and his touch awakens her to hidden gifts, desires, and hungers she never knew she possessed. Bonded by blood, Dante and Tess must work together to thwart deadly enemies, even as they discover a passion that transcends the boundaries of life itself.

The Midnight Breed series is GREAT!!

I happened on Lara Adrian's books by accident and I am so happy I did. I find this series to be extremely entertaining, well thought out, and written very well. This is the second book in the series and I can hardly wait for each of the installments to hit the book stores. Now that they are on Audible, I am a very happy camper. I love to listen to the books as I read along because I want to know how some of the words and names of the characters are pronounced. I can also get into a very Zen kin of place and really get into the Breed world. After the first intense listening, I can listen while I do housework, laundry etc. It seems to makes the work go faster too!! BONUS!!!

I hope Audible continues to carry Ms. Adrian's books. She has 7 books in print and the 8TH is due in print on Aug.31,2010. Who knows, maybe Audible will catch up by then and ALL HER BOOKS WILL BE ON AVAILABLE ON AUDIBLE!!!

We get it you are not looking for love.

This book was better then the first 'official' book of this series Kiss of Midnight. I do not know why this series keeps getting compared to BBD but I do not see it. If it has to do with the secret society of warriors then I do not know why it is not compared to Lynsay Sands's Argeneau series. That has warriors as well within this series. If that is all that makes this series comparable to BBD then there are a long list oh book series that has the same formula. But I digress...

I enjoyed Dante as a hero. He was mysterious and he really did not want to be tied down to anyone. I can respect that however there were times where I felt thou protesteth too much. I get it you have demons to work through but come on dude it is going to happen. When one warrior finds a mate it only makes sense that ALL of the warriors will find one.

Tess was a great character as well I loved her gift and I loved the fact that she was one of those heroines that always felt that there was something amiss with Dante and others around her. Yes, she has those feelings because of her past but when someone does not just jump in bed or feel as though someone is their soulmate I enjoy that. I need the hero to work for the heroine's affection.

The war or battle is heating up and I am excited to learn more about what in the world Lucan's brother is up to. Like what made his feel as though he wants to wipe out or rule over a species? What was the catalyst that brought him to this situation. I know back in Lucan's book A Touch of Midnight there are a couple of hints but I want to know the big picture.

I have to admit that I am not invested in this series. I am not saying that it is not good but I can see myself listening or reading this series when I have some free time. I do not see myself devouring these books like I have other series in the past.

Writing and narration--very well done!

Kiss of Crimson is the second book in this series. The quality of the writing is still great. A must for those who enjoy paranormal romance. What stands out for me is Hillary Huber's mastery of accents. There are several in this book (and the others that will follow). When an Italian, Russian, and a Brit are having a conversation, Ms. Huber is able to switch accents without hesitation. Well done!! Can't wait to listen to Midnight Awakening when it is released.

Great start, but quick ending.

This is a great listen but the author seems to have been rushed with her ending.
Reminded me of JR Ward.
Worth a credit.

Love the Midnight Breed!

I realize I am a total sucker for this romantic, sweep-you-off-your-feet, erotic vampire series, but at least I can say that it is really well-written! This second book is very involving and I really enjoy learning about the different characters and their backgrounds throughout the series.

And, again, Hillary Huber has the perfect smokey and throaty voice to pull off the male voices.

I'm also glad like another reviewer stated, that I stumbled onto this series. It's terrific. Onto the next one!

Beautifully Writen

This is a wonderfully written book in the series, I like how the characters are drawn together slowly and how they both need something from each other but they don't want to put the faith in it until closer to the end, when they realize they need each other to survive mentally.

Promising Series!!! Give it a try...

I listened to the first book in the series and was a little put off by the behavior of the characters, but interested enough to give the second in the series a listen. I am glad I did, this book was much better.

The characters are believable and more importantly, likable. If you are a fan of the paranormal fantasy series, you have to give this series a try.

poor narrator

The context of the Midnight breed series is fantastic but the narrator leaves much to be desired. Her voice is so flat and uninteresting it takes away from the storyline.

Loved All Three

Loved all three of the series. I suggest starting at book one and reading/listening to them all. I downloaded one immediently after the other because I wanted MORE! I can't wait for #4 to come out! Brilliant author and narrator. Some narrator's voices annoy me and make me lose concentration on the story but Hillary Huber is one of my very favorite. I actually found this series by doing a search on Hillary. :) Hope you enjoy as much as I did! ~Deb
