Publisher's summary

He comes to her more dead than alive, a towering black-clad stranger riddled with bullets and rapidly losing blood. As she struggles to save him, veterinarian Tess Culver is unaware that the man calling himself Dante is no man at all but one of the Breed, vampire warriors engaged in a desperate battle.

In a single erotically charged moment, Tess is plunged into his world - a shifting, shadowed place where bands of Rogue vampires stalk the night, cutting a swath of terror. Haunted by visions of a dark future, Dante lives and fights like there is no tomorrow.

Tess is a complication he does not need - but now, with his brethren under attack, he must shield Tess from a growing threat that includes Dante himself. For with one reckless, irresistible kiss, she has become an inextricable part of his underworld realm...and his touch awakens her to hidden gifts, desires, and hungers she never knew she possessed. Bonded by blood, Dante and Tess must work together to thwart deadly enemies, even as they discover a passion that transcends the boundaries of life itself.

Vet meet warrior, warrior meet vet

This is the second installment in the Midnight breed series. And it is a good one. The main part of the story took a while to get to because of all the background information and dealings of the other characters and the lack of communication on both sides as to their motives of being with each other.

But once the action began it never stopped. You get to see how the other couples and warriors are doing in this book. Which in my opinion is a good thing. In many series the other characters become inconsequential and forgotten falling to the way side, but not in this one. You also get to see the breed world through more than just the two main characters eyes.

Even though the beginning of the book is slow and the ending is thrust upon you it is a fantastic read. The series really starts to draw you in. With each book the overall scheme of the mastermind whom, as all masterminds want to do "take over the world" gets rolling.

In this book the warriors are put in an untenable situation, save one and risk others or keep the breed population fearing them? What ever choice they make someone will suffer for it. It is a great book and one that I'm happy to have read.

Excellent!

I honestly did not expect Dontae to find his breed mate. He was so adamant against one, especially when Lucan and Gabrielle found each other. Then he was out with other females trying to get his blood and sex fix. She is a powerful mate and will come in handy to the Warriors.

Good book

Enjoying the series so far.. But Tess got on my nerves 🙄. For some one that has “abilities” Her street smarts were lacking. How many different ways can you walk into a situation and go (is anybody there) knowing that maybe you just should shut up and ...grab the weapon maybe

We get it you are not looking for love.

This book was better then the first 'official' book of this series Kiss of Midnight. I do not know why this series keeps getting compared to BBD but I do not see it. If it has to do with the secret society of warriors then I do not know why it is not compared to Lynsay Sands's Argeneau series. That has warriors as well within this series. If that is all that makes this series comparable to BBD then there are a long list oh book series that has the same formula. But I digress...

I enjoyed Dante as a hero. He was mysterious and he really did not want to be tied down to anyone. I can respect that however there were times where I felt thou protesteth too much. I get it you have demons to work through but come on dude it is going to happen. When one warrior finds a mate it only makes sense that ALL of the warriors will find one.

Tess was a great character as well I loved her gift and I loved the fact that she was one of those heroines that always felt that there was something amiss with Dante and others around her. Yes, she has those feelings because of her past but when someone does not just jump in bed or feel as though someone is their soulmate I enjoy that. I need the hero to work for the heroine's affection.

The war or battle is heating up and I am excited to learn more about what in the world Lucan's brother is up to. Like what made his feel as though he wants to wipe out or rule over a species? What was the catalyst that brought him to this situation. I know back in Lucan's book A Touch of Midnight there are a couple of hints but I want to know the big picture.

I have to admit that I am not invested in this series. I am not saying that it is not good but I can see myself listening or reading this series when I have some free time. I do not see myself devouring these books like I have other series in the past.

Nice..

Any additional comments?

I said after I read Kiss of Midnight I probably wouldn't read anymore of these books because they're soo long and wordy but I decided to try this one anyway. I really enjoyed it. I liked Dante and Tess. They were both very likable. I liked Nora too but I wasn't crazy about Ben from the get-go. I think I'll look and see if there's a book about Chase and read that one next. If not, then I don't know if I'll continue with them in order or just forget it. These books have some great sex and that's one thing that keeps me interested. Not erotic or dirty sex just romantic sex.

As to the narrator: One reviewer said she did a good job on the men's accents "italian, Russian and Brit," and she did. However, I guess she thought she could do the accents and still sound like a "girl" and that would be good. Umm, nope, not even close! I can't say I won't listen to her again because this book came out on audio in 2010 and Ms. Huber could have gotten better since then.
