Publisher's summary

It's a job that makes a killing. Efficient, professional, and without apology, Lily Mansfield is a hired assassin, working as a contract agent for the CIA. Her targets are the powerful and corrupt, those who can't be touched by the law.

Now, after 18 years of service, Lily has been drawn into a dangerous game that hasn't been sanctioned, seeking vengeance for her own reasons. Each move bolder than the next, she is compromising her superiors, drawing unwanted attention and endangering her very life. Though stress and shock have made her feel somewhat invincible and a little cocky, Lily knows that she too can be taken out in an instant. And if it's her time, so be it. She intends to go down fighting.

A CIA agent himself, Lucas Swain recognizes the signs of trauma in the line of fire. His orders are to either bring her in or bring her down. Yet he too is drawn into the game with Lily Mansfield, dancing on a tightrope as he tries to avoid a major international incident while still battling a tenacious foe who is dogging their every step.

Keeping laser focus on her task at hand while vigilantly watching her back, Mansfield never sees the lethal peril that lies directly in her path...and how loyalty has a price.

Loved it!

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer -- this is the best I've ever heard using two narrators. Joyce Bean's voice has a very pleasant tone and she does accents beautifully. Dick Hill's narration takes a little bit of getting used to because of his delivery style, but he also has a very pleasant voice and very clear enunciation. When reading 'in character', they are both amazing -- conversations between them flow easily with all of the nuances of the characters' personalities.

The only thing I thought was a bit unexpected about this story was the lack of tension. I was surprised at how easily the two main characters trusted each other and other people with no background information at all. I was also surprised at how often that worked out just fine -- with the CIA and all of those bad guys I expected a few more double crosses. Personally, I prefer this style so I was very pleased with the story.

And you REALLY don't want to miss those love scenes!

Don't Miss This One

This is one of the first audiobooks I listened to back in the day when my only source was the local library. I loved it then and I love it even more now that I've found Audible.

Narrators Joyce Bean and Dick Hill deliver a knockout performance of Howard's sexy thriller. This one is famous (and rightly so) among romance fans for the very convincing in-the-moment love scenes between Lily and Swain. The Gold Standard in how to make the best possible use of two narrators.

Heroine Lily is a CIA contract assassin who's gone off the ranch to make an unsanctioned hit for reasons of her own and Lucas Swain is sent to bring her in or take her out if he has to. Swain is intrigued, impressed, and smitten with his target and the two end up working together to stop a nefarious plot to profit from a killer virus epidemic. It's a fast and fun read and a most satisfying romance.

And you don't want to miss those love scenes. Just sayin'.

PURRRRFECT

What a collaboration - Linda Howard's writing and Joyce Bean and Dick Hill's narration - it doesn't get better than that. This is mainly a thriller with romance and boy what a twist at the end.

Worth a credit? Yes - If you like deep plots, a handful of sub plots with a dash of romance and a sprig of violence and mild sex then this is for you.

shay

The fact that Dick Hill and Joyce Bean both narrated this book made it so very much more enjoyable for me. I have read it and listened to it and it was most certainly worth my credit. This is a definite keeper and you won't be disappointed! It's about time two narrators got together. I'll be looking for more books like this.

One of her best!

This is by far one of Linda Howard's best novels. The story is fast-paced and the dialog is well-written and even humorous in parts. The romance is sexy without being overblown, and the narration is outstanding! Money well spent!

the best narration I've heard!

Kiss Me While I Sleep is a great book, and the narration by Joyce Bean and Dick Hill is fabulous. I would like them to narrate every book Linda Howard has written, and more! The book is a real page-turner, with some pleasing twists & turns, and the combination of thriller and romance works very well.
It's very important how the narration is done, and by whom, and this is the ace in the pack - the best narration I've heard!

CIA hitwoman Lily is now the TARGET~ 5 STAR

CIA hitwoman Lily carries out her revenge on a well planned hit~ but she is NOW the TARGET.

well done~ 5 STAR ~ Lily carrying out a revenge hit and the details in her ESCAPE are what make this fun. first half is the escape and the second part is her being hunted and found by Lucas Swain~ the CIA operative who is supposed to get rid of her. Together they find a PANDEMIC is being planned. Together they target the baddies lab and avoid the hitmen who are also on Lilys back. excellent READERS...... moves along well. Both female and male readers add to the story.
